I am in isolation having been told to by the NHS Covid App as have supposedly been in contact with a case (have no idea where or how). Isolation ends at 23.59 tonight. Do you think it would be ok to go to the supermarket at 23.00 tonight, so thatI have food in for Christmas. Worried about crowds tomorrow. I am on my own, a widow.

Yes go for it

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 23/12/2020 18:34

Yes, I would do the same.

AIMD · 23/12/2020 18:35

Yes go. Realistically it’ll be no different in half hour than it would half hour earlier.

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 23/12/2020 18:35

I would.

allycat4 · 23/12/2020 18:36

How many days were you give to isolate?

YakkityYakYakYak · 23/12/2020 18:36

I would

ComDummings · 23/12/2020 18:37

I would too

UrghThisIsHard · 23/12/2020 19:03

Of course!

MinnieMountain · 23/12/2020 19:24

Presumably the app doesn’t know what time in the day you had the contact. Go.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 23/12/2020 19:25

Is this serious?!

Nowaynothappening · 23/12/2020 19:25

Yep, half an hour won’t make the blindest bit of difference. Go for it.

CoRhona · 23/12/2020 19:27

I wouldn't just in case I was called / chased up guilty conscience - are the shops not open 24 hours near you?

saraclara · 23/12/2020 19:30

@CoRhona

I wouldn't just in case I was called / chased up guilty conscience - are the shops not open 24 hours near you?
Don't be ridiculous. Who's going to chase her up late at night?! And I don't know a single person who's been chased up anyway. People are way too busy to worry about this sort of thing. And on someone's last day?

OP, go. It's absolutely no issue at all. I'm really sorry you've had to isolate alone at this point. Go out and get your stuff.

bridgetreilly · 23/12/2020 19:37

I think it's fine, but I can't work out how you make that to be 30 minutes early, OP. It's 59 minutes.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 23/12/2020 19:40

Does the shop close at midnight?

Nunoftheother · 23/12/2020 19:45

I don't quite understand your maths, but it doesn't sound like the app it any more precise than the nearest 24 hours, so I think it's reasonable to go this evening in the circumstances.

Coffeeandaride · 23/12/2020 19:45

Yes, I'd even go a little earlier and hope you get some lovely food to enjoy.

nosswith · 23/12/2020 19:56

I assume you were at home on the day that the isolation period started, at least after 2300 hours. So it will have been 14 days?

tempnamechange98765 · 23/12/2020 20:01

Gosh yes. We are ending my DC's isolation (as a contact, not because of symptoms, and he's tested negative twice) 3 hours early. And not from midnight as to me that's bollocks, why is it midnight for everyone no matter the last contact time? We are basing it on 10 clear days (well 11 really, last day of contact is day 0?!) from the exact last time of contact (school).

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 23/12/2020 20:10

You've kept to the isolation, so 30 mins isn't going to make any difference, you have to eat. Sorry that you are having a hard time. I hope you are able to make something nice and have a relaxing few days

loulouljh · 23/12/2020 20:12

oh for goodness sake..this is not worth even thinking about. 30 mins is neither here nor there. Please go and get your food...and enjoy.

Natsel84 · 23/12/2020 20:17

Yes go .

ancientgran · 23/12/2020 20:17

Honestly OP I follow the rules, I know I'm not on the naughty list but I don't blame you. Was the contact likely to be at midnight or is midnight just a standard cut off time. Wear your mask, keep you distance.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 23/12/2020 20:20

What do people think is going to happen in that last 30 minutes?! Genuinely baffled by this!

ProfessorInkling · 23/12/2020 20:21

Good lord, go now. Be cosy and warm for 23:00. The advice to isolate from the app is not mandatory anyway. Great that you have, but don’t be a slave to it, there is room for common sense here.
