I am in isolation having been told to by the NHS Covid App as have supposedly been in contact with a case (have no idea where or how). Isolation ends at 23.59 tonight. Do you think it would be ok to go to the supermarket at 23.00 tonight, so thatI have food in for Christmas. Worried about crowds tomorrow. I am on my own, a widow.

I was going to post a sarcastic response along the lines of "You are being irresponsible" but can't be arsed.

I'm someone who rolls their eyes when I read posts about how someone is exempt from the rules because of (insert excuse of choice) but even I reckon you'll be fine.

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 20:25

@CoRhona

I wouldn't just in case I was called / chased up guilty conscience - are the shops not open 24 hours near you?
🙄

Of course it’s fine OP

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/12/2020 20:35

Just go! If they phoned me to check up on me at 11pm I wouldn't be answering anyway as my phone would be turned down!

AcornAutumn · 23/12/2020 20:35

OP the covid app is not legally binding.

Just go.

And interesting you have no idea where the contact was. Get rid of the app, it’s not fit for purpose.

Tal45 · 23/12/2020 20:37

I doubt your contact happened at midnight did it? So I would go x

InFiveMins · 23/12/2020 20:38

Seriously? It's 30 minutes! Go.

SnackySnack · 23/12/2020 20:40

I think I've had enough of MN tonight, of all the bonkers threads on here... this one trumps the lot.

coldwaterfeed · 23/12/2020 20:41

No, you must stay home and say 10 Hail Marys for even thinking of such a thing. Scare dieu!

Swishswish26 · 23/12/2020 20:43

More surprising is the fact that people still have the app!!

WotWouldCJDo · 23/12/2020 20:44

For goodness' sake.

funinthesun19 · 23/12/2020 20:48

Yanbu. Anyone who thinks you’re unreasonable for that is bloody petty. Like the virus needs those 30 minutes to disappear if you have it, right down to the very last second. Grin

coldwaterfeed · 23/12/2020 20:50

I suspect the people voting YABU think OP is BU for wasting MN bandwidth on this thread.

thesebootsaremadeforawalking · 23/12/2020 20:50

I'd even go now frankly. There needs to be a cut off, but a couple of hours don't matter.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 23/12/2020 20:55

I wouldn't just in case I was called / chased up

Wouldn’t you just turn your phone off? If they rang back the next day demanding to know where you were at 11pm, wouldn’t ‘In bed with my phone off’ be a perfectly acceptable answer?

Yes and the app is voluntary anyway!
Beautiful3 · 23/12/2020 20:57

Yes, go.

BumbleBeegu · 23/12/2020 20:59

Ffs 🙄

DrManhattan · 23/12/2020 21:00

Is this for real???

GrapeLipBalm · 23/12/2020 21:06

It's hard being a widow at Christmas isnt it. Especially in a pandemic. Hope Christmas goes ok for you. Flowers

rwalker · 23/12/2020 21:18

Yes go but most of all a MASSVE thank you for being responsible and isolating .

AcornAutumn · 23/12/2020 21:51

Sadly, a lot of people don’t know those app notices are voluntary, don’t know the app is not an infection control tool and are trying, albeit misguidedly, to do the “right thing”.

So yes, I think the post is real and I’d say please don’t take the piss out of someone who might have misunderstood, (because of relentless propaganda,) might be scared and isn’t doing anything nasty like nosing into the business of others.

I’m just back from Aldi, it was very quiet.

AngryPrincess · 23/12/2020 21:53

Yep.

Same here.

You should be fine OP.

Etinox · 23/12/2020 22:17

Leave your phone at home.

Inastatus · 23/12/2020 22:37

Really?
