Quality Street lacking in 'quality' or is it me...

So have thrown in the towel early this week and have just quaffed my first chocs and was less than impressed by the chocolate. I am quite prepared to believe it is just me...not as I remember but my taste buds do seem all over the show generally post-menopause.What is your verdict?

My 12 year old agrees with you. (And so do I)

Bearnecessity · 14/12/2020 19:44

good to know @passthemustard...thank you...

I think they've increased the proportion of palm oil in a lot of chocolate, and it's nowhere near as nice. Quality Street needs to be renamed "Poor Quality Street" imo. Mars bars and all sorts of other chocolate stuff just taste shite now.

On the bright side, I've actually lost a bit of weight because I rarely eat it these days!

marmitecake · 14/12/2020 19:53

Interested to know how many green triangles you got, op? If you haven't eaten them already can you count them as hearing horror stories there's only two or three per tin and loads of toffee pennies and I'll be taking them back if there's not enough!

fourquenelles · 14/12/2020 19:57

I have treated myself to a personalised tin of QS this year. No green triangles (the Devil's bogeys) or coconut or minging orange crispy things or bleurgh strawberry creams. I have gone for the purple one, the penny toffee, caramel, orange cream (for one of my five a day) an the solid chocolate one. I am waiting for it to arrive so will be able to judge the quality of the chocolate then but at least I'll have the decent fillings.

StillWeRise · 14/12/2020 19:58

there are some people who like the toffee pennies, I think I read about it on here but not come across it IRL

BiscuitDrama · 14/12/2020 20:00

Me, me! My favourite is the toffee finger, second favourite is the toffee penny!

StillWeRise · 14/12/2020 20:01

madness

Swingometer · 14/12/2020 20:02

Quality Street are a bit shit

I suspect they always have been but as a child who has never tried good quality chocolate you don't realise this

I don't generally 'waste my points' on crap chocolate anymore but there are a few which are edible (coconut, hazelnut whirls, green triangle)

Wrenna · 14/12/2020 20:02

My dh is Canadian and we’d get a hexagon shaped box every year from my in-laws...it’s been at least 12 years since they have been good!

PontiacBandit · 14/12/2020 20:02

I agree, we stayed away from Roses and Quality Street this year. They used to be so good as well.

BeesAnkles · 14/12/2020 20:03

The last ones I tried were just awful. Sickly sweet and too hard with a nasty aftertaste. I hadn't had them for years so maybe I remembered them as being nicer.

megletthesecond · 14/12/2020 20:04

Quality street have always been horrible. I never liked them as a kid.
Heroes are where it's at.

Meerkatmummy4 · 14/12/2020 20:06

Hope not. Just bought a tin today and it's hidden in my wardrobe away from the hoards 😭

BloggersBlog · 14/12/2020 20:11

Always think it's really cheap chocolate, and soapy

Madbengalmum · 14/12/2020 20:13

Quality street et al have always been rubbish.

ButtWormHole · 14/12/2020 20:14

I had a Quality Street today (not had one for years) and yep, was not v nice

Belledan1 · 14/12/2020 20:14

We opened ours and thought they were tasteless.

Caramel81 · 14/12/2020 20:15

We opened a box today too and thought they were very average. I used to love things like Quality Streets, Roses and Milk Tray in the early 90s but they all taste crap now with all the added palm oil

IRememberMySpaceBabe · 14/12/2020 20:16

I love them Blush I love the strawberry creams, orange creams, green triangles, and toffee fingers.

Which tub used to contain coffee creams? Roses? I mourn the loss of them

Bearnecessity · 14/12/2020 20:17

I bought them for ds and nostalgia really...I will be donating the other bags to community store cupboard ...heroes...hmmm...

This comes up every year, it's the same with Creme Eggs.

Bearnecessity · 14/12/2020 20:19

Meant to say only two green triangles....

RaspberryCoulis · 14/12/2020 20:21

Cheap shit chocolate, packed with cheap shit palm oil. It's nothing like the Quality Street you remember from the 80s or 90s.

And it's owned by Nestle.

CakeRequired · 14/12/2020 20:24

I love them. Favourites are the strawberry ones and orange ones. Can't tell a difference in the taste.
