Three bottles of gin

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 20:24

So, major supermarket delivery fail here. Place marked my delivery with three bottles of gin and missed the deadline for making changes. Tomorrow I will get three bottles of gin and no food.

Aibu to keep the lot?

Gin suggestions gratefully received. Don't usually drink a lot of gin because it is delicious and the temptation to go overboard is quite strong.

Also, how do I look the delivery guy in the eye with my not so healthy shop?

If you can afford it and it’ll get drunk then keep the gin. Sod what the delivery guy thinks. It’ll be a nice easy job and probably give them a chuckle anyroad, plus it’s christmas so everyone is buying tons of booze.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 13/12/2020 20:33

My delivery guy just looked at me & said 'You don't want these do you?'

& actually he was right, but it wasn't entirely my fault as their website had been playing up the day before & I couldn't change my order.

(I already had several bottles of rum in the house!)

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 13/12/2020 20:34

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is here?

justthecat · 13/12/2020 20:35

Is this Ocado again ?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/12/2020 20:37

A friend of mine did this with two bottles of Taittinger. She won't do it again 😂

Fullofpissandvinegar · 13/12/2020 20:37

Turn one bottle into delicious spiced clementine gin - just enough time to have it ready for Christmas!

skylarkdescending · 13/12/2020 20:40

I did that with a bottle of champagne from ocado. Saved the slot for my vulnerable grandparents at the start of the pandemic and then couldn't change the slot as ocado website crashed for days!

They thought I'd been really thoughtful and sent it for their wedding anniversary so I didn't correct them Grin

SantaMonicaPier · 13/12/2020 20:40

You could try to ring them. I've done that before when the website seized up and I couldn't change an order. Alternatively is there anyone you could give a bottle of gin to for their Christmas gift?

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 20:41

@justthecat it's Tesco, but Tanqueray, which is my favourite. Can't be doing with that fancy botanical stuff

OP posts:
AcornAutumn · 13/12/2020 20:42

If the items can’t be changed you’ll get whatever gin you put in the cart, so I can’t see why you want suggestions?

If you can’t use it all, then they might agree to cancel the order.

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 20:45

@santamonicapier I do know that I could do that. I haven't told DH. Feels like Christmas.

I am usually so sensible.

Are you sure you've missed the cut off time? For many shops it's 10pm or midnight the night before delivery.

PinGwyn · 13/12/2020 20:51

And this is why people who can't leave their homes are struggling to get slots - if you needed stuff fair enough but clearly you didn't or you would've changed the order 🙄

WalkingMeAway · 13/12/2020 20:55

You have until 11.45 tonight to change your order with Tesco

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 20:58

@PinGwyn The cutoff was different from the usual one. I am ECV and haven't been in a shop since the beginning of the first lockdown. I have a DD who can help, but really don't want to put too much on to her, especially as she doesn't drive.

This was meant to be a lighthearted laugh at myself (sigh)

This is precisely why I reserve my Tesco slot with a couple of nice bottles of chateuneuf du pape; even if I ever somehow manage to miss the slot to make amends, it could never be a disappointment Grin I'd be going all year with 3 bottles of gin though!

CherryPavlova · 13/12/2020 21:03

Don’t ever hold a slot with anything that is expensive not useful. Good lesson to learn. Gin keeps we’ll just put lots of flavoured tonics on the next order.

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 21:03

@WalkingMeAway I think that's where I got caught, because it was a priority slot for clinically vulnerable people. They don't give you a one hour slot, it's a much bigger window.

I think I must be at the beginning of the run, because they have all arrived on the dot at 8.00am. Mmmmm gin in the morning..........

OP posts:
PinGwyn · 13/12/2020 21:07

@mothersruinonspeed if you'd said the deadline had changed in your OP i'd have laughed along with you.

As it was this is a topic that's hitting close to home and been bugging the hell out of me for months so I didn't find it very amusing! Apologies for projecting.

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 13/12/2020 21:08

People talking about being judged by the driver for 2 bottles of gin, Ocado had an insane offer for a bottle of my favourite spirit and a mixer I bought 10.

Cheeringmeup · 13/12/2020 21:11

If you're really struggling, I'd happily swap a bottle of gin for some virtuous pasta, passages and broccoli 😂

Cheeringmeup · 13/12/2020 21:12

*passatta

Crumbleandcake · 13/12/2020 21:17

Good Tesco tip. I reserve my slots with running through clicking on my favourites. Half my shop is done then when I go to update it.

mothersruinonspeed · 13/12/2020 21:19

@PinGwyn not offended. Just need to find some light in this miserable dark. And laughing at myself and inviting others to do the same is a classic way of dealing with dark stuff.

DD has been sending cocktail suggestions, DS has been finding truly bizarre recipes. We have been having fun with some of it.

Hey, am I allowed to derail my own thread by making a weirdest cocktail competition?

DD's best one involved gin, brandy, bourbon, whisky and Sherry

crazyfishh · 13/12/2020 21:22

I did this with Waitrose and champagne. Had to ring them to cancel, they were very apologetic even though it was my fault! Only done it the once.
