Just out of interest what are the weirdest things you have found when moving? Mine was just lots of problems left by previous owners 🤣 but wondered if anyone had random/weird things!

My sister found a human bone. She moved to a cottage which was right next to a centuries old church in a very remote area.

The neighbour informed her that the bones were all in the garden as they'd shifted about over the centuries.

She finds them often but pats them back under the ground these days. She's never found a skull yet.

A stash of vintage porn magazines left on top of a high shelf. An attic the previous owner hadn't known about. An urn of human ashes.

Three different houses.

MedusasBadHairDay · 09/12/2020 15:08

Real fur rugs, with holes where the eyes should have been, and crawling with cockroaches.

AlwaysLatte · 09/12/2020 15:11

An ancient child's shoe behind a wall that hadn't been touched for about 400 years.

Moving into a house share: pheromone infused underwear wash.

Moving in to a new home: paperclips holding up the curtains, the remains of quite a few dinners in the back of a poorly cleaned out dishwasher, a lot of mothballs and no floor under the bath! Just one house. My first BF found a hardcore porno stash under a loose carpet edge in a house he & his mum moved into when he was a teen though.

My mum had some contact with the lady she sold late DGMs house to, and the lady very kindly brought back £300 in cash grandma had shoved under a carpet off cut she'd used to line a high up shelf! It was the only thing Mum had missed clearing out.

'Glamour' photos of the previous owner on top of the wardrobe. Literally - she was on top of the wardrobe in the photos. The very wardrobes I was wiping out prior to putting our clothes in them.

Mind you, some future owner of the house is going to get a shock when they lift the floorboards. When we were replacing the carpet I dropped the pot holding all my dcs' milk teeth, and half of them fell through a little gap in the corner of one floorboard. I have since discovered that during the week we were without carpets my dc had been posting all sorts of things through the gap in that floorboard, including a mini My Little Pony, a Polly Pocket doll, a letter to Father Christmas and a toothbrush. It probably looks like some sort of bizarre shrine or burial down there! Grin

When my son bought his house, the vendor left items in ALL of the rooms;
dead plants in the lounge, kitchen items in the kitchen (foil, herbs, half opened bottles of wine,); the bathroom contained, an unopened cupboard full of half used items, and the toilet was not flushed.
The loft had an old suitcase belonging to an earlier owner, full of rubbish.
The bedrooms had stuff in the wardrobes, etc
Everything was skipped, as even the kitchen foil, you could not be sure of.
I presumed the vendor could not be bothered to dispose of it all, and left it to us.

ToeTouchingTitties · 09/12/2020 15:39

A dead squirrel in a box. It wasn’t really decomposed, so I presume it climbed in and got stuck during the move...

TeeniefaeTroon · 09/12/2020 15:41

Everything the previous owner possessed. It was a repossession and they left everything, all their furniture, cars, clothes, photos, even her wedding dress. Took us two weeks to sort everything out, sell everything we didn't want and scrap the cars. The guy even had a kitchen showroom and there are still several flat pack kitchens still needing to be sorted out in the attic.

shash1982 · 09/12/2020 15:47

Bug clumps of melted candle wax on the bedroom ceiling! 🤢

Then, second house we moved into a massive pile of national geographic magazines and erotic art books! 😂

shash1982 · 09/12/2020 15:47

Big clumps, not bug clumps!

AmandaHugenkiss · 09/12/2020 15:51

I found a secret shelf in a cupboard with a VHS porn video. Commercial and legal but subject matter 🤮

In our new house we have handprints inside one of our cupboards in cement which we assume from the size are children’s but aren’t signed or dated; let’s hope we don’t have a ghost!

PenCreed · 09/12/2020 15:53

@Muckish you can't leave it like that - I need to know more about the mysterious attic!

redheadwitch · 09/12/2020 15:56

Im in a Facebook group "Things found in walls - and other hidden findings" - Very entertaining! People from all over the world showing the weird things they have discovered Smile

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/12/2020 15:57

Porn magazine wedged under the bathroom sink.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/12/2020 15:57

So much porn?

Blackberrycream · 09/12/2020 15:59

Not found but left.
My ex was a doctor and had inherited a human skull from his doctor father. I didn’t like it and it lived in a top kitchen cupboard in our rental. We moved cross country using a company and had to have everything packed ready. It was quite frantic and we didn’t realise until a long time later that the skull had been left.
It must have been a shock for someone.

AdditionalCharacter · 09/12/2020 16:03

An old (vintage?) silver cross pram in the loft. No idea how it got up there as we were unable to get it down as was too big to go through the loft hatch. Wonder if any of the residents after us managed to get it down or if it's still sitting there, unloved.

DaughterOfEvening · 09/12/2020 16:03

I’ve posted about this before.
Found a human jawbone, complete with teeth & several pieces of longer bones in the cupboard under the stairs a few days after we moved into our home almost 20 years ago.
Phoned the estate agent who said phone the police, who seemed unbothered, turned up a few days later but took them away.

LindaEllen · 09/12/2020 16:08

In the roof space (converted) was a small storage cupboard and tucked in a corner was a box, filled with what looked like period spoiled underwear.

It was a disturbing find, but most likely an embarrassed teen not wanting her parents to see them. I remember hiding underwear myself when I leaked, but I'd always wash them, never left them for the next tenants to find!

JWrecks · 09/12/2020 16:15

A million years ago when my cousins moved, the new house was totally re-done, spotless, and completely empty, except for one single item: a doll in a very accurate wheelchair. They kept that doll for ages and named him Mr Fritz.

DH and I bought a run down, abandoned shack in the woods (bought for the land), and the house had been gutted by squatters. The squatters had ripped out the doors, sinks, appliances, floor tiles, all of the wiring out of the walls, and on and on, and it was clear they were manufacturing some sort of drugs in there.

They left us some VERY weird things, but by far the weirdest were:

  • Dozens, maybe even hundreds, of magazines like Good Housekeeping (ironic!) and Ladies Home Journal, the type that are obviously marketed to women/housewives, filled with recipes, decor ideas, and beauty ads. There weren't even any appliances in the place!
  • About 30 pairs of massive men's y-front pants. Most were still new in the package, but there were 10 or so strewn about which looked as if they'd been used to scoop up mud! Envy
Spelunking · 09/12/2020 16:16

When my parents moved into their house, there was a shoebox full of used tampons in the attic.

Snuggleworm · 09/12/2020 16:23

Would you not have tried to get ther stuff back to them instead of selling it???
Oooohbehave · 09/12/2020 16:25

Not that I've found, but something I left for the new owners to find. It was a teddy bear dressed up in S&M gear, with PVC bra and crotchless knickers! I'd won it at a fair a few years previously and it was the most tasteless, weird thing I ever did see! Hopefully it gave the new owners (a couple with no DC) a giggle.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/12/2020 16:26

DH informed me yesterday that there's a 3ft Christmas tree in our loft. Which is pretty normal but we've been here for 12 years and now I'm wondering what else is up there and if it's worth me doing the awkward climb over the stair bannister since DH clearly can't be trusted to notice anything interesting and then tell me.
