To think Rebekah Vardy has no chance?

Her case hinges on claiming someone has somehow hacked her account; be that someone she employs or someone who has somehow done it at random. Colleen Rooney very, very deliberately (and now infamously) stated ‘It’s... Rebekah Vardy’s account’.

She’s suing for libel, yet she hasn’t been personally accused. That wording was not an accident. Surely unless she can somehow prove that the fake stories were not accessed via her account, she has no case?

In the UK the person who said something is the one who must prove it is true. So Coleen will need to prove that what she said was true not Vardy prove her innocence.

It's why supposedly our tabloids can't print things that they can in France etc.

@StillCoughingandLaughing

I think you have to have a good reputation to start with for it to be damaged.

In all seriousness, the question wasn’t about whether it’s okay - it’s about whether Vardy stands a chance in court.

It doesn't matter what the persons reputation is like. It's still worrying that you think that it is ok that someone can do that.

and it's all relevant to whether she stands a chance in court. I would hope the court won't make a judgement based on what they think they know about these women when they don't actually know them!!!! and they are looking at it from the point of view of is it OK for a person to post something like that on social media pointing the finger at a person like that so obviously!

justicedanceson · 19/11/2020 23:44

Sorry @girasol just seen you posted a very detailed explanation ages ago Blush

StillCoughingandLaughing · 19/11/2020 23:45

It's still worrying that you think that it is ok that someone can do that.

You ignored the second half of my post. But that aside, is it still ‘worrying’ if it is true?

How do we. Know CR's account wasn't hacked? Has that been proven?

user1481840227 · 19/11/2020 23:47

No I didn't Confused
I clearly replied to both parts Confused

Yes I have said already that it is worrying that no matter which side you believe that you think it is ok for people to do that!

So when Rebekah responded to accusation saying she wished Colleen had contacted her directly...wasn't it obvious she was saying 'Im hurt you think it was me, because I liked you"? Did CR respond at that point and say " No..I'm not saying it's you personally - but you've been careless with your account, at the very least." No attempt then, as I recall, no attempt by CR or spokespeople to pedal backwards, and limit damage.

I think at that stage, CR thought she had a strong case. Then, a bit later, I think things started to look more complex when her team started to say.."And did you mention to anybody else about the content and detail of your fake news/ sting bait?".Maybe then, she says "Well only what I discussed with X - but she didn't tell anyone. She was the one who had tipped me off about RV being the Sun wag." Or maybe lawyers got wind of some other disclosures via some other route.

But CR did get rid of one set of lawyers, didn't she? She obviously didn't like what they were saying and maybe felt she'd been badly advised. Albeit lawyers can only advise based on the facts their clients give them.

I don't see, anyway, that VR dreamed up this red herring news. Would any one reading this make up a story about gender selection and choose to put that fakey out there? It's too close to home: to personal. It implies assisted reproduction and nitty gritty nobody should know - or that you're less than thrilled with begatting boys all the time. No, far too tacky to put your name to. You'd only do it if a journalist had advised you that only something as revealingly indiscreet and inner sanctum of the family as this would realistically and credibly be picked up by a journo. If she planned it with an accomplice, then other people knew.

Nikhedonia · 20/11/2020 00:01

I'd be really annoyed if RV won, but only because Wagatha Christie brought such joy and I'd like CR to be acknowledged for her positive contributions to a shit year.

Diverseopinions · 20/11/2020 00:01

I mean, sorry, I don't think CR dreamed up this sting by herself.

Diverseopinions · 20/11/2020 00:12

I'm thinking more and more that it won't be about hacking RV's account, but more, rather, about the stories being circulated through CR:s friends, or whoever helped CR to plan and execute this sting. If any friend gives an inkling that they knew about any of the fake stories thanks to them not having been properly clothed in secrecy - well, CR's case starts to look weak.

What I'm asking, is what made CR think that RV had leaked stories about her? Going back, I mean, to the time before the sting. If news is posted to a circle of, let's say fifteen people, then it could be any one individual from among them, or two or three - eg , on separate occasions and for different pieces of news, different 'friends' leaking ( well, not leaking, but blabbing to their other mates).

If CR had claimed to have told news to friends face-to-face, then there would be other clues as to who might have spilled the beans: non-verbal responses, or CR remembers exactly which specific facts she gave to which friend. Unlikely, isn't it, that CR would guess correctly, out of all those friends with all their younger star-struck teenage neices and sisters to gossip news about? It only makes sense to me that CR was tipped off. Then she collaborated to execute the sting, I think. Then she shared her fake news items with the journalist who was aiding her. It could have got about that way, through him or his contacts.

Isn't it also possible that RV might have casually told someone some of the stuff and didn't sell any story? she could have told a friend or family member...maybe they sold the story...or told someone who told someone else who sold the story...

or perhaps she was telling Jamie the gossip...without being malicious, just normal couple chat..and a cleaner or nanny or someone could have overheard..
or maybe she was scrolling through her phone getting her hair done and an opportunistic hairdresser was sneaking a peep at her phone.

I've had friends taking a sneaky peek at my phone to see who i'm messaging...or heard stories about their friends as they scroll through social media..or when I lived with my ex he'd tell me all the funny or random or bad stories about people he knew.

Stories do get passed on in general chit chat, the difference for me is that I wouldn't have any opportunistic people around me who can make money from any stories I have about my non famous friends lol!

ClareBlue · 20/11/2020 01:17

Don't you need to have a good repretation to defend to win a libel case, just saying.

Janegrey333 · 20/11/2020 01:18

They really are behaving like a couple of chavs. I’m not in the least bit interested in either. Bore off.

Janegrey333 · 20/11/2020 01:18

Who. cares.

Staffy1 · 20/11/2020 01:31

I hope Rebekah Vardy wins as the way Coleen Rooney went about things was extremely nasty. She could have privately confronted her, or just dropped her from the group of people linked to her private account.

user1471565182 · 20/11/2020 03:17

Shes just bloody awful. Have a look at how she finished with her ex footballer to (her words) 'upgrade'

user1471565182 · 20/11/2020 03:21

Then there was the whole incident of her sitting there laughing whilst her husband racially abused a staff member in a casino.

Viviennemary · 20/11/2020 08:42

I'd never even heard of her till all this. I just looked her up on Wikipedia. Good grief.

PaperTowels · 20/11/2020 08:59

*At the hearing, Mr Justice Warby was asked to determine the "natural and ordinary" meaning of Mrs Rooney's posts.

The judge said he would give his ruling on Friday afternoon.*

So I guess we'll hear later today whether what Colleen posted was libellous.

They've both agreed for a delay to the next stage until Feb, to see what can be agreed in the meantime.

Mr Tomlinson said both Mrs Vardy and Mrs Rooney had agreed for a "stay" of proceedings until February, so there could be "one final attempt to resolve the matter without the need for a full trial".
