To think Rebekah Vardy has no chance?

Her case hinges on claiming someone has somehow hacked her account; be that someone she employs or someone who has somehow done it at random. Colleen Rooney very, very deliberately (and now infamously) stated ‘It’s... Rebekah Vardy’s account’.

She’s suing for libel, yet she hasn’t been personally accused. That wording was not an accident. Surely unless she can somehow prove that the fake stories were not accessed via her account, she has no case?

I am following....there's not enough Wagatha Christie chat on this site.
I have no idea about the actual law so no clue if YABU or not Grin
But I hope we find out what actually happened.

IhateBoswell · 19/11/2020 17:59

Following too.

That “It’s...” was so funny.

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/11/2020 17:59

This is my gut feeling as well. She’s never been accused, but just that it came from her account. However she’s surely had good legal advice which makes me wonder two possibilities?

Is it up to Colleen to prove that the messages could only be seen by Vardy’s account and if so is she able to prove what her settings were at the time?

Could Vardy argue that maybe Colleen talked to a friend/Wayne about what she was doing and the specifics of the stories and that person could have passed them on? Again would it be up to vardy to prove this happened or up to Colleen to prove it didn’t?

From what Vardy has said I get the impression other people close to her had her log in details so could have been the culprit....but if so that ties in with Colleen’s accusation.

nosswith · 19/11/2020 18:02

I expect the real winners of this will be in the legal profession.

AvoidingRealHumans · 19/11/2020 18:04

I also have no idea of the ins and outs of the law on this one but agree that Colleen worded the accusation very well.
I know the only winners in things like this are the lawyers but how could this go to court, surely there would need to be some kind of evidence on Rebekahs side or its a huge waste of time for the judges.
As sad as it is I am looking forward to the details but have a feeling they may settle outside of court at the last minute and we get no dirt dished to help us through lockdown.

HotSince63 · 19/11/2020 18:06

I think Collen has Rebecca bang to rights. Go Team Rooney!

Fatted · 19/11/2020 18:07

Coleen was the one who slandered Vardy, so she has to prove what she said was true.

At the end of the day, the pair of them are both doing very nicely I would imagine out of magazine deals, social media followers and over exposure on the whole load of nonsense.

TidyDancer · 19/11/2020 18:11

It's a libel case so the burden of proof is on Rebekah Vardy. Personally I hope Colleen is vindicated in this. Can't stand Rebekah, never forgot how she bullied Iain in I'm a Celebrity. Nasty woman.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 19/11/2020 18:12

Coleen was the one who slandered Vardy, so she has to prove what she said was true.

That’s not right. Vardy is bringing a case against Colleen Rooney and therefore she has to prove there was libel i.e. that what Colleen said was untrue.

ArsenicNLace · 19/11/2020 18:13

RV isn't saying that she isn't saying that someone 'hacked' her account. Her defence is saying that it is common knowledge that celebrities allow other people, such as their PAs, to manage their account for them as is the case with her account.

I wonder if she's going to point the finger at someone in particular (which possibly could lead to further litigation from that person especially if not true). I also wonder if they will call who ever was writing the stories in The Sun to say who was contacting them (but again RV could have directed one of her lackies to do it).

JacobReesMogadishu · 19/11/2020 18:16

Coleen was the one who slandered Vardy, so she has to prove what she said was true.

I don’t see how she can prove it wasn’t true, especially if her defence is that lots of people have access to her account. She can’t even know herself then if someone linked to her account leaked it!

WhySoSensitive · 19/11/2020 18:17

It long after it happen RV claimed multiple people had access to that account and could have been any of them. When things escalated she changes it to that she had been hacked unknowingly.

I don’t think she stands a chance and bloody love Rooney for standing up for herself and her privacy, in a world where they will have very little.

SeasonFinale · 19/11/2020 18:19

Coleen didn't say it was Rebekah. She said it was Rebekah Vardy's account.

Storyoftonight · 19/11/2020 18:20

OP is right.

Coleen only ever said it was Rebekah's account. She didn't say Rebekah leaked the stories....she just said someone with access to the account did. Deliberately so. Rebekah has no case.

FWIW I think Rebekah is guilty as sin.

SoupDragon · 19/11/2020 18:22

Coleen was the one who slandered Vardy

Except she didn't.

You be careful you don’t get sued! Grin
unmarkedbythat · 19/11/2020 18:26

How does the defence of 'she said it was her account not her' work? Does anyone really think that "...….Rebekah Vardy's account" implies anything other than that Rebekah Vardy was responsible? I'm seeing this defence roundly mocked on twitter.

ferretface · 19/11/2020 18:30

It's really normal for celebrities to have social media managers with access to their accounts. Colleen would know this and the accusation is clearly worded at the account.

nevernotstruggling · 19/11/2020 18:30

Just following because this is fascinating!!!

MaelyssQ · 19/11/2020 18:36

I love Coleen Rooney for calling her 'friend' out.

I'm not famous, and this was before social media, but when I found out one of the schoolgate mums was telling everyone in earshot that I was shagging my decorator, who was married to a friend of mine, I took great delight in publicly confronting her, in front of the decorator, his wife, my DH and an assorted gaggle of onlookers. Her blustering excuses were a joy to hear. She didn't gossip about me again (but it didn't stop her spreading malicious lies about other people).

BloomShine · 19/11/2020 18:40

Rebekah Hardy is so fame hungry. I doubt she cares whether she wins or not. She thinks taking the case makes her look innocent. Hoping Colleen wins.

BloomShine · 19/11/2020 18:41

Also her husband probably got a lot of stick for it and when she claimed to him she was hacked/an employee had access to her phone he probably encouraged her to clear her name. Tabloid gold.

EmilySpinach · 19/11/2020 18:43

Oh yes, Colleen's initial statement read like it had been lawyered to the hilt.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 19/11/2020 18:43

I'm disgusted at the amount of money wasted by 2 silly women on such a trivial matter.

It's obvious isn't it?

If she gives her logon details to other people any of them can look at her account, any one of them can show the account to anyone else, screen shot information etc

Instagram has no way of knowing whose eyes are looking at something only whose account is being used.
