To miss alcohol during pregnancy!?

Bit of a lighthearted AIBU..
I'm 24 weeks pregnant and keep looking at wine/gin etc as I walk past in supermarkets and think how long I have left until I can drink it again 😥😅 .. is this normal? Does everyone do this? Dont worry I don't need any help groups haha just seeing if this is a common feeling!???

I feel the same but I like the social drinking aspect more so the way I have come to terms with it is being pregnant in lockdown isn't so bad because no one can go to the pub GrinGrin

Camomila · 13/11/2020 22:56

I never really missed alcohol but in both pregnancies I really wanted brie and salami. I like both but don't like them loads, I think it's more because I wasn't allowed them.

Redtartanshoes · 13/11/2020 22:59

Have you tried the non alcoholic gin?

PinkPlantCase · 13/11/2020 23:03

I’m not looking forward to an alcohol free Christmas Hmm

Have missed having a glass of wine after a long week. I never really drank that often, maybe one or two days in a month. But I miss having the option!

Duemarch2021 · 13/11/2020 23:15

No i haven't tried non alcoholic gin.. I've had a few non alcoholic ciders but it's just not quite the same 😅

I’d love a bloody martini tbh! I’m 25 weeks ! Tbh haven’t missed it much - but this weekend I’ve been thinking how much I’d love a cocktail haha

Had a can of coke for a treat instead

Tippexy · 13/11/2020 23:42

It’s ok to have some alcohol... 🤷🏽

Duemarch2021 · 13/11/2020 23:51

@Tippexy

I've had 2 teeny tiny glasses of red wine spread out over the last 4 months😅 but reading nhs website it says they can't say it's safe so i decided not have any more... also.. thinking more along the lines of a BOTTLE not a small glass lol

Duemarch2021 · 13/11/2020 23:52

@Heyahun

Lol!! Mmm martini... i had a diet coke before but even coke I'm paranoid about cos of the caffeine lol!

Heyahun · 14/11/2020 00:17

I give myself a nice ice cold can of coke every Friday night 😂😂

I switched to decaf tea - so I’m not having much caffeine at all so think a can of coke is ok once a week tbh!

😂

@Duemarch2021 I probably sound stupid saying this, but I've been making 'fake G&Ts'.
I was really enjoying Old Tom gin with star anise as my garnish. Now I still have the tonic and garnish.
Haven't found a nice red wine yet (small bottles I've been looking for so limited locally) but I have found Sainsbury's non-alcoholic mulled wine quite nice. That was a biggie for me...Christmas has been saved!

seayork2020 · 14/11/2020 00:32

I thought i would but I didn't (a fact not saying it is wrong to miss it!)

I get you op though

Duemarch2021 · 14/11/2020 00:52

@Heyahun

Yes! We deserve a treat haha.. you're due 1 week before me then.. 1st march? Congratulations do you know if you're having a girl or boy? X

I'm the same. 24 weeks pregnant. Used to get through 4-5 bottles of wine a week. I know most health professionals would say it's too much but I enjoyed it. It doesn't help that I have felt so crap throughout this pregnancy. I'm just fed up to the max. Looking forward to having a drink (or a few) again once baby is here. I remember at twelve weeks I admitted to the Midwive that I had a glass of Prosecco over dinner whilst on holiday and she went off one one saying I would give my baby FAS, which there is absolutely no evidence for so I never really trusted her after that. All the best x

mum2bin2021 · 14/11/2020 00:59

I haven't had a drop since I found out - I'm 21 weeks and I'm craving a glass of red so bad! Dry Christmas in lockdown it is... woohoo Thanks

Treaclepie19 · 14/11/2020 01:16

I felt like this. She's 7 weeks and I've still only had one prosecco 😂 Too tired now.

gretagreengrapes · 14/11/2020 06:59

I am pregnant now and rarely drank before but I have felt like I've missed alcohol too. I saw an advert for some spiced rum and started fantasising about drinking it! I think it's just because its the forbidden fruit.

gretagreengrapes · 14/11/2020 07:02

@Belle1983 I am so glad you've mentioned alcohol free mulled wine, I was feeling sad I'd miss out when we decorate the tree!

Lakeland also sell a spiced mulling syrup which is alcohol free and lovely in wine but I'm going to get some to have in warm apple or cranberry juice for hopefully the same effect!

FlingingFlangingHardToOpen · 14/11/2020 07:03

I missed the feeling of being out with friends, a couple of drinks in, just tipping over into slightly drunk and feeling slightly looser and more confident, and feeling like anything could happen. I don’t drink often but I love it 🤩

adogisforlife91 · 14/11/2020 08:37

YANBU OP.

DP works in the wine industry so we quite frequently share lovely bottles of wine. The other day he brought home a bottle of sparkling wine, my favourite, I could have murdered him!!!

@belle1983 totally with you on the G&T. Good tonic with ice and lemon hits the spot. Thanks for the tip on mulled wine. I'm not bothering with 0% normal wine but mulled might be the way to go. Christmas is saved! That said, I will certainly be having a small glass of champagne, but told DP it has to be really good stuff Grin

sbhydrogen · 14/11/2020 08:41

God, I miss you, my dear friend wine!

(10ish weeks here)

TaraRhu · 14/11/2020 08:44

Last time I was pregnant I really missed alcohol. I did have the very occasional small wine or beer. I read into it and was happy that it was ok.

This time I can't face the thought of alcohol. I can't even look at it without feeling sick. Same with coffee.

Here4theaibu · 14/11/2020 08:53

17 weeks and what I wouldn't give for a large glass of white wine or a run and coke!

I have found a very nice non alcoholic version of martini rosso in Sainsbury's when mixed with tonic and served with ice is lovely. Non alcoholic wine is just rubbish though and Seedlip is horrible!

My entire gin shelf is packaged up in our garage so I don't have to look at it at the minute!

Zoecarter · 14/11/2020 09:03

I dunno if it’s been mentioned but I quite liked the seed lip non alcoholic gin and tonic x

TiredMummyZZZ · 14/11/2020 09:07

I was exactly the same all through my pregnancy but I had my daughter in May and I’ve completely gone off the thought of drinking anything now, I think it’s because I know even a glass of wine would give me a hangover at this point!

Although my mum introduced me to a really nice non alcohol prosecco called Nosecco from Sainsburys. It’s about £4 a bottle and tastes like the real thing, I’m buying a few bottles for over Christmas to have with Orange juice for a pretend Bucks Fizz!
