My First Parking Thread- all out war has been declared.

I live on a street which is all terraced property and houses are very old so the street is narrow as people didn't have cars then. None of us have drives and we do not have front gardens so our doors open straight out onto the street.
We park wherever on the street and this is not about parking outside our own property this is out and out war people!
The parking etiquette is that on one side (mine) we park with all four tyres on the floor and on the other side they park with two tyres on the kerb and two on the road. It has been like this forever.
The council have agrees that this is the most reasonable and practicable way as my side affords access for wheelchair and pushchair users etc so we don't need feedback from that point of view.
My neighbour on the opposite (Pat) side has some plant pots outside her house ( she us on the two wheels on the kerb side) and parks her car on our side of the street which is fine by me as I wouldn't want to wreck my tyres.
A neighbour on my side who is opposite her (Syd) has parked their car directly outside Pat's house and leaving her with the need to climb over the plants to get out! 🤦‍♀️
There has also been a mystery complainer they all think its Syd and Pat has been told that she has to move her plants ( forgot to say that she is in a back to back terraced where we have yards).
She had a chat with the council and they agreed that she would be perfectly entitled to park her car on her side with four tyres on the road as this would then afford access to the pavement in front of her house. She has done this and this now means that you cannot get down the other end of the street without using a very inaccessible access road. We now have two cars parked with four tyres down and its causing fucking mayhem as nobody is breaking the law!
I can't take the dog out without somebody chewing my ear off about it and although it is inconvenient AIBU to tell them all that I don't give a shit. I just find the whole thing so childish....on both sides. She is loitering outside her house now, looking for a conflab, she is drumming up support via the Monday dog walking group who pass our houses and she is going door to door. She is like a politician. I can't hide my smile its like some shit storyline in a soap opera.😁

@Allywill

If there is zero space at the back and the door opens onto the pavement where do the bins go? It must be madness on bin day?
A very good question!

Perhaps somewhere on the access road?

Fizzydrinks123 · 09/11/2020 18:05

Perhaps to demonstrate to Pat her selfish behaviour you could get some neighbours together and invest ins some "moveable" pots, which arrive outside whichever house Pat has parked at.

FredtheCatsMum · 09/11/2020 18:07

Why does everyone feel they need to own a car, and have the right to park it? The things take up so much space, mostly just sitting there doing nothing.

Sell the car, and don't worry about it any more.

SlippersForFlippers · 09/11/2020 18:08

In our back to back houses, we had one where we had a bin yard about every 5 houses with every ones bins in. In the other one bins were kept in front of the houses, under the windowsill.

The first one, the street looked better but the bin yards were used as a dump and set on fire a few time while I lived there. Probably also full of rats.

EggysMom · 09/11/2020 18:09

I'm sorry but, if Pat wants plants, Pat should move to a house that gives her the ability to have plants - i.e. one with a garden.

Flittingaboutagain · 09/11/2020 18:11

Pat is in the wrong causing chaos with her plants

Runningoutofnamestochange · 09/11/2020 18:34

Any street parking thread now just makes me think of Alphabet street & so rainypuddles

the question was relayed to the fire service, & the answer came back: "Don't worry about parked cars, if there's a fire the fire engine will get through!"

The response from the fire service to that question when I lived in a terraced street was that they would just bash their way through, risk to life was more important than a few dented cars Grin

TheDowagerDuchess · 09/11/2020 18:38

It’s a good diagram, well done OP!

Pat is being a bit of an idiot with the pots. It’s a shame not having a garden but it doesn’t mean she can block the pavement.

I think Syd was a bit out of order too though to deliberately make her life difficult just because she parked on the other side!

Eddielzzard · 09/11/2020 18:39

Pat needs to get herself some of those nice window boxes and move her plant pots to the back. Pat parks back on pavement. Job done.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 18:50

I think Syd was a bit out of order too though to deliberately make her life difficult just because she parked on the other side!

Maybe there was nowhere else on the street he could park. And he did park with two wheels on the kerb initially - it was only when she complained because she couldn't get past her own plant pots that he was forced to park with all four wheels on the road, causing an obstruction - and now she's complaining about that (understandably - I would think the entire street is unhappy about that).

However, ultimately PlantPot Pat has caused this, and is sustaining it.

CoffeeNights · 09/11/2020 19:14

Got to the diagram then haven't rtft
First. Excellent addition of fire engine.
Second. Can we all stop saying plant pots please? It is pot plants not plant pots! Grin
Okay will read the rest of the thread now...

Casschops · 09/11/2020 19:16

@Allywill yes it is the bins are out front too.

I am finding it funny how many people can't imagine back to back houses. It's fairly common up north. We are pretty rural so lots of green space.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-to-back_house I had to google the type of house. Very interesting!

Casschops · 09/11/2020 19:27

Pat is truly on top of her game for sheer brass neck. The lights have gone off yet we know she's home. Khalid from next door has just texted her apparently the Neighbourhood Watch WhatsApp has gone bat shot and Judith the moderator has just kicked Pat off.
She's lying low, she's gone no contact, cancelled the check and LTB......

Can we all stop saying plant pots please? It is pot plants not plant pots!

If they are pots containing plants, they are plant pots.

Pot plants are plants which are in a pot.

It is the pots (designed for plants)which are significant here - so plant pots.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2020 19:30

Trust me, my plant pots rarely house anything as exotic as pot plants!!

Tbh i have said plant pots pot plant so many times in my head now that the word 'plant' is starting to sound like a faintly ridiculous group of meaningless sounds. Like when you say the word 'plug' over and over....
blubberyboo · 09/11/2020 19:40

She’s being petty and ridiculous about her pots. Can you all not have a communal alley at the backs with pots etc?
As others have said this is a hazard for emergency vehicle access which will end up with someone not getting access in a fire or medical emergency
Does she want this on her conscience.
I suspect that’s why the neighbours had an historical arrangement that worked

Perhaps you should point this out to her cos at the minute all she can think about are the plants

What is going to happen is it will escalate until the council come along and paint a double yellow line along one side and then you’ll all be screwed for parking

GabsAlot · 09/11/2020 19:40

cancel the cheque hold the onions

call the police

Springcatkin · 09/11/2020 19:41

Maybe Pay wants the street to swap the four wheels side over to hers and the two wheels to Syd's? That would solve the problem?

lyralalala · 09/11/2020 19:41

Pat is clearly aiming for double yellows on her side of the street so that there are no cars on her front.

NameChanger3002 · 09/11/2020 19:45

Ask the local fire brigade to checkout the street, they will hopefully tell her what to do with her plant pots. Or get someone to nick the plant pots...

Tistheseason17 · 09/11/2020 19:47

I love a parking thread!! She's batshit! But it's so funny.... (when it does not affect you!) Grin
