My First Parking Thread- all out war has been declared.

I live on a street which is all terraced property and houses are very old so the street is narrow as people didn't have cars then. None of us have drives and we do not have front gardens so our doors open straight out onto the street.
We park wherever on the street and this is not about parking outside our own property this is out and out war people!
The parking etiquette is that on one side (mine) we park with all four tyres on the floor and on the other side they park with two tyres on the kerb and two on the road. It has been like this forever.
The council have agrees that this is the most reasonable and practicable way as my side affords access for wheelchair and pushchair users etc so we don't need feedback from that point of view.
My neighbour on the opposite (Pat) side has some plant pots outside her house ( she us on the two wheels on the kerb side) and parks her car on our side of the street which is fine by me as I wouldn't want to wreck my tyres.
A neighbour on my side who is opposite her (Syd) has parked their car directly outside Pat's house and leaving her with the need to climb over the plants to get out! 🤦‍♀️
There has also been a mystery complainer they all think its Syd and Pat has been told that she has to move her plants ( forgot to say that she is in a back to back terraced where we have yards).
She had a chat with the council and they agreed that she would be perfectly entitled to park her car on her side with four tyres on the road as this would then afford access to the pavement in front of her house. She has done this and this now means that you cannot get down the other end of the street without using a very inaccessible access road. We now have two cars parked with four tyres down and its causing fucking mayhem as nobody is breaking the law!
I can't take the dog out without somebody chewing my ear off about it and although it is inconvenient AIBU to tell them all that I don't give a shit. I just find the whole thing so childish....on both sides. She is loitering outside her house now, looking for a conflab, she is drumming up support via the Monday dog walking group who pass our houses and she is going door to door. She is like a politician. I can't hide my smile its like some shit storyline in a soap opera.😁

yes isnt her fault for having plant pots out on th street why did the council say it was ok

bitheby · 09/11/2020 17:08

Surely the only solution to this is to demolish the back to back behind Pat's side of the street and everyone gets a back garden.

Or Pat takes her pots away. That might be cheaper and less disruptive.

GabsAlot · 09/11/2020 17:09

they shold call the police then if its obstructing a road shes being ridiculous

what exactly does she want the neighbours to do

BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/11/2020 17:10

We need Olaf in his high viz

How do the houses not have back gardens/ yards?? They’re mid terrace and have a house attached at the back? I’ve never come across that set up before, they have absolutely no outside space at all? Seems crazy

amusedbush · 09/11/2020 17:12

Pisstaker Pat needs to get rid of her plants before the street double yellowed and the street turns in a parking Hunger Games. I'm firmly on #teamsyd here.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 09/11/2020 17:15

Excellent diagram. Pot Plant Pat needs to switch to hanging baskets. If the street is currently blocked by one car trying to get to the sheltered accommodation, what will happen when an ambulance can’t get through and an elderly resident doesn’t reach hospital in time? ☹️ Or the fire engine scenario. Pat could cause serious harm with her wretched pots.

Casschops · 09/11/2020 17:16

@BanditoShipman yes they are back to back against eachother so no back yard. They are old quarry cottages so they used to try and get as many in as possible to a small space.

Pat is in the wrong here. Not only are her plant pots causing obstruction on the path but she has parked her car (all four wheels) on the road when it should be two wheels on the road, two wheels in the curb.

I would be extremely annoyed if I had a relative in that sheltered accommodation who needed a fire engine or ambulance and they couldn't get past because of Pat.
I would go and remove her plant pots and post a note through her door if her actions caused any harm to my relative.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 09/11/2020 17:25

Perhaps something “nasty” will happen to the plants....

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 09/11/2020 17:31

I'll start by saying, I am not Pat.

I do feel some sympathy for her wanting to wring a bit of gardening space out of her inexistent outdoor space. I mean, I would really hate not even having the space for a pot or two.

Nevertheless, she is BU and this is going to go pear-shaped. If it doesn't end in Council action and all-out war, I'll eat Pat's potted geraniums.

Good star for the diagram @Casschops

JaniceEvans · 09/11/2020 17:39

Sounds like pat needs some hanging baskets. Perhaps the street could get her some as an early Christmas present Grin

RandomMess · 09/11/2020 17:41

Pat is being an utter CF cow... although you could all agree to switch to parking the other way and then she can get in trouble for blocking the pedestrian right of way...

Sirzy · 09/11/2020 17:41

I think the sheltered accommodation need to kick up a fuss. The level of selfishness could easily risk the life of their residents if they need ambulances at any point

Fizzydrinks123 · 09/11/2020 17:44

Shocked at cheeky Pat's land grab.

It is an obstruction whether or not it's a pretty pot plant or an ugly pile of rubbish.

She is blocking a public right of way and seeking to obstruct others.

The local council may be interested as if anyone trips over her pots who would be receiving the personal injury claim?

StoneofDestiny · 09/11/2020 17:44

Pat doesn't want to be popular then 😂. They will end up getting yellow lines - if a car can't get down an ambulance can't.

StoneofDestiny · 09/11/2020 17:45

The plant pits need shifting.

cyclingmad · 09/11/2020 17:49

Simple, just have hanging baskets. Honestly wtf is wrong with people

LittleDoritt · 09/11/2020 17:49

PIBU (Pat is being unreasonable) Grin

ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/11/2020 17:51

@AhoyMeFarties

If a fire engine couldn't get through I wouldn't be impressed but obviously keep us posted Grin
At my first flat we had a management committee who dealt with stuff like this. Someone asked what would happen if there was a fire, as so many people parked on the road that there were concerns that a fire engine wouldn't be able to get through. So the question was relayed to the fire service, & the answer came back: "Don't worry about parked cars, if there's a fire the fire engine will get through!". Fortunately there was never a fire so we didn't get to see what would have happened to the selfishly parked cars...
ifIwerenotanandroid · 09/11/2020 17:55

@Viviennemary

Everyone get the biggest plant pots they can find. And then nobody will be able to park or get out of their house.
I like the way you think. Grin
MzHz · 09/11/2020 17:59

Pat is a PWAT!

Allywill · 09/11/2020 17:59

If there is zero space at the back and the door opens onto the pavement where do the bins go? It must be madness on bin day?

FrippEnos · 09/11/2020 18:00

I doubt that the council said that she could have plant pots outside her house, but they can't really say anything but cars should be parked fully on the road.

Nottherealslimshady · 09/11/2020 18:01

She's gonna find her car getting keyed and allsorts if she doesn't be careful. She'll also find herself reported to the police for causing an obstruction. I'd have my hand planted on the horn if she was blocking the road and refusing to open the door.
