Just that really. He’s not long since had his birthday & we’re utterly stumped. He’s at that awkward between toys & consoles stage.

He hasn’t really asked for anything 🤦‍♀️

Looking for inspiration?

We are getting him a really good remote control truck, it's the hobby class rather than toy class. His birthday is shortly after Christmas and we are getting him a Swatch.

Pimmsypimms · 08/11/2020 18:32

Ds will turn 8 next week so we'll have birthday and Christmas to buy for, these are a few things on our list so far to choose from:
Plasma ball
Headphones
Really rad robots fart bro Hmm
A new switch game
Nerf digital target
Dobble
Mandalorian wrist gauntlets

CatsArePeopleToo · 08/11/2020 18:36

Not sure yet. He has plenty of stuff already because of older DC outgrowing stuff. Legos, rc cars, nerf guns, also gadgets and consoles at home.
Something like robot building kit or chemical experiments maybe. Maybe Switch would be nice, but it's a bit too big for a purchase for Xmas.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 08/11/2020 18:38

Hoverboard with go-kart attachment.
I sort of want one for myself too!

SaltyButter28 · 08/11/2020 18:39

We have got my 7yo DS a remote control car, but a decent all terrain one as his main present.

SomewhereEast · 08/11/2020 18:39

What does he love? My 8yo DS is currently obsessed with Minecraft, Star Wars (that one's lasted for years) and anything mechanical or technological. He still really likes Lego too, especially the more challenging sets. Science type toys like Snap Circuits were a hit last birthday. He also likes the more advanced end of the remote control vehicle spectrum - I've got him an RC helicopter for Christmas.

Smarshian · 08/11/2020 18:41

We’ve got my nephews an England cricket shirt, some magformer sets and a Harry Potter Lego set.

Mol1628 · 08/11/2020 18:44

My son turns 8 in December so I’ll put what I’ve got him for both birthday and Christmas

New stunt scooter
Switch game
Digital watch
Puzzle book (crosswords/mazes etc)
New bedding set
New pyjamas
Slime baff

LaLaLanded · 08/11/2020 18:44

DS got a switch last year (he was then 8) which will last him a few years.

This year he’s getting a DJ set - it hooks up to a laptop and makes songs. I admit I have no real idea how it works but he does!

He’s a bit over Lego now but would love a nerf gun, some sort of drone... a whole set of anime books he hasn’t read maybe...

Lazysundayafternoons · 08/11/2020 18:44

Bit of both here from technology and games..

Have got him a new game for his switch, an xbox controller so he can play with his day, he asked for the vtech phone so he can text his dad when hes working away from home (Monday to Friday every week).

But then levelled it out with plenty of board games - monopoly, cluedo etc, hes at a good age where hes moving onto adult type board games. Got him some funny toys too - a 'fartbuster' and joke shop. Some books and some playmobil. The playmobil will probably be shared with his little brother. And got him a couple of Lego Mario bits.

doublemix · 08/11/2020 18:44

Lego he wants the big national geographic ship sets
Treasure x
Pop figures
Bugs in the kitchen game
Venom figures
Nerf battles cubes
Mosasaurs teeth and real fossils

I'm now struggling to think of some smallish items he has a 2 year old brother so he looks like he has a lot less than him as his presents are big!

Christmasbiscuit · 08/11/2020 18:45

Bike
The child soft toy
The child pjs
Nerf blaster
Nerf target practice
New game for the Switch
Steering wheels for the Switch
Fortnite figures

Thirtyrock39 · 08/11/2020 18:46

My 8 year old wants a go kart

rabbitheadlights · 08/11/2020 18:52

All my son's class are after the spy gear stuff, voice changer, listening device, magic pen etc

Rexasaurus · 08/11/2020 18:54

Thanks all.
Some good ideas here.
He got a switch for his birthday.
He’s not really into anything apart from his switch at the moment so we’re looking at some more bits for that.
Like the science kits-he’d love that & probably the bugs in the kitchen game.

Rexasaurus · 08/11/2020 18:55

He’d also probably love some spy stuff

Mine is really into drawing & tech so he's getting a drawing tablet for the computer (about £30) and an art portfolio case. Here for inspiration for some other bits! He has ASD and unless things are immediately relevant to his interests he won't give them a second glance.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 08/11/2020 18:59

Loads of good ideas here - I'm also thinking of a games table for my DC, one that has pool, table football, table tennis etc and folds upright for eas(ier) storage. They've read all the original Harry Potter books so looking at getting The Cursed Child screenplay and possibly the Fantastic Beasts one as well.

W33XXX · 08/11/2020 19:01

My eldest had mentioned a gaming seat recently (though didn't ask for one), not a 'gamer', plays switch/Xbox at weekends when not at sports etc. Bought him as a surprise a gaming bean bag. As hell get good use out of this during family movie nights/gaming/reading. Comes with pouches for headset etc. Can also buy matching foot stool.

Laquila · 08/11/2020 19:04

Spy stuff-wise, can I heartily recommend UV writing pens - I think we got a pack of 23 for about £6 for eBay and my kids aren't sick of them yet! They have a tiny torch on the end so you can see the secret writing...

My 7.5yr old is after Ninjago Lego (STILL), a Kylo Ren costume and a lightsaber. I'll add some books but at the moment God knows what else, so I'm reading this with interest! It can be tricky when they don't have a console. Junior Cluedo is a good idea actually - thanks for that.

Pimmsypimms · 08/11/2020 19:04

They've got Grafix science kits in Aldi this week, only £4.99, here are a couple of them.

Lego

More Lego

Programmable Lego is a great investment for the future if your kid likes making stuff. We have alarms, robots, spy gadgets all made of the stuff.

WellTidy · 08/11/2020 19:09

Nintendo switch and Minecraft clams for my 8yo. He has classic autism (so ASD plus learning difficulties) and other diagnoses too, and this is the first Christmas since he was 8 months old that we have given him anything that would be seen as chronological age appropriate. Not that it matters, and it may never happen again, but it’s a big thing for us Smile

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/11/2020 19:10

My DDs (7&9) main present this year is camping equipment (9yo has a tent, 7yo a sleeping bag upgrade. Then there's a backpack each, towel, spork, mug etc)
Their request list (spread amongst relatives as well as us) is clocks for their rooms, hair dryers (partly to dry out air dry clay!), Harry potter Lego, books, toy snake, seeds, Cubs paraphernalia, soft toy, craft stuff, baking stuff.
Other stuff i know the are getting are Snuggle cushions, other Lego, hot water bottles, Hogwarts house hoodies and pjs, a metal detector, a microscope and collectible bits.

WreckTangled · 08/11/2020 19:11

Ds is 8 in a week and for Christmas/birthday he's getting:

Two different nerf guns
A drone with a camera
Headset for the PS4
A couple of jellycat toys
PS4 t shirt, joggers and pjs
Current Arsenal top
Have got him a cool bath toy (he still loves his toys in the bath!)
Some bath bombs from mrs snowballs bubble boutique plus other stocking fillers

If he would like the spy kit then Melissa and Doug do a cool one that both my dc loved
