Royal Fail haven't delivered my package that I ordered online 14 days ago. I have telephoned them, and, you can't speak to anyone. I have a tracking number and, I am unable to track it (automated service says "you cannot track this item"). I filled in a contact form online. This is the reply I got from them :

Thanks for contacting Royal Mail

Thank you for contacting us

I’m sorry there was a delay in delivering items of mail and can fully understand your concerns.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, we’ll continue to deliver the most comprehensive service we can to all our customers. However, along with other organisations, we’re experiencing increased levels of employee absence due to illness and self-isolation.

Despite our best endeavours, it’s likely some areas of the country will experience a reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences at their local mail centre or delivery office. However, your enquiry has been logged under the reference shown above.

I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused and assure you we do all we can to minimise disruption during these unprecedented times. We’re committed to keeping the mail moving – delivering letters and parcels across the UK, including to those who find it difficult to leave their homes.

Thank you for contacting us and I hope this resolves your enquiry. If you need further help, please visit our Help and Support Centre at www.royalmail.com/help or www.royalmail.com/coronavirus.

Regards
Royal Mail

I immediately filled in a second contact form. I've just received a reply. This is what it says :

I stopped using RM for parcels after I paid out for a fully tracked and signed for service for a birthday present some years ago. When it became apparent it was lost I contacted them and was told that even though I'd paid a significant sum for this service, I was in fact not entitled to expect it to be any better than normal first class postage. So basically they took an extra £6 (on top of the usual price) for a premium service that their customer services rep told me didn't in fact exist. That, and the occasion when we had a card saying a parcel was at the sorting office to be collected. When we went to collect they denied it. I showed them the card, didn't hand it over as I had a feeling they would have denied its existence if i had. I said I wasn't leaving without the package as it was an item my then 10 year old dc had purchased with birthday money. They 'searched' the sorting office to no avail. So I said I was going to report it to the police since clearly they had had the parcel and the fact that it wasn't at the sorting office suggested someone had taken it. Cue a sudden 'thought' from the postman on duty who looked in a cupboard under the counter and lo and behold, there was my son's package!
I could list many examples of poor service from our local office - suffice to say that on the rare occasion I need to post anything with RM, I now drive to the next town and post it at the sorting office there rather than trust it to our local staff. When I send parcels now, I use one of the. Courier services such as Hermes who I have always found to be much better.
