I HATE ROYAL MAIL

Royal Fail haven't delivered my package that I ordered online 14 days ago. I have telephoned them, and, you can't speak to anyone. I have a tracking number and, I am unable to track it (automated service says "you cannot track this item"). I filled in a contact form online. This is the reply I got from them :

Thanks for contacting Royal Mail

Thank you for contacting us

I’m sorry there was a delay in delivering items of mail and can fully understand your concerns.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, we’ll continue to deliver the most comprehensive service we can to all our customers. However, along with other organisations, we’re experiencing increased levels of employee absence due to illness and self-isolation.

Despite our best endeavours, it’s likely some areas of the country will experience a reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences at their local mail centre or delivery office. However, your enquiry has been logged under the reference shown above.

I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused and assure you we do all we can to minimise disruption during these unprecedented times. We’re committed to keeping the mail moving – delivering letters and parcels across the UK, including to those who find it difficult to leave their homes.

Thank you for contacting us and I hope this resolves your enquiry. If you need further help, please visit our Help and Support Centre at www.royalmail.com/help or www.royalmail.com/coronavirus.

Regards
Royal Mail

I immediately filled in a second contact form. I've just received a reply. This is what it says :

Has any else experienced this?

It's not true that only the sender can track the item. Anyone with the 13 digit tracking number can track the item. The sender can raise a dispute with Royal Mail and get postage and compensation for the loss paid back to them. Like a PP said, your contract is with the sender, theirs is with Royal Mail.

It sounds like the sender has used a non tracked service such as signed for, or standard parcel. These can't be tracked through the network and usually only receive a delivery scan on your doorstep.

I've messaged the seller to ask her to contact Royal Mail to try to track my item x

The tracking number is 16 digits long

On the receipt the only thing it says is posted 2nd class. Not tracked I imagine

Usually if a tracking says you cant track the item its because it coming from overseas... or the seller hasn't actually posted the item and is lying.

Is the receipt she sent an actual physical receipt from the post office showing your address as the delivery location, or did she pay postage online and send you an email.

AintPageantMaterial · 25/10/2020 14:43

A bit off the point perhaps but I absolutely LOVE the Royal Mail. I bang on about it like a bit of a weirdo but honestly I think it’s amazing.
A first class stamp is 76p!
For 76p they are going to take that birthday card and take it all the way to someone’s front door. In the majority of cases by THE NEXT DAY!
I think it’s practically magical.
It’s a level of service that just doesn’t exist in lots of other comparable first-world countries.

You can get through to someone on the phone. I can’t remember the options but have managed to speak to someone twice since covid hit. Weekday both times so not sure whether they’re open on Sunday. ‘Something else’ option is probably the best way to get through.

I used to have a postman who would deliver the red card without trying to deliver the parcel! once ran to the door to get it and he didn’t even have it with him. As a consequence anything else seems quite acceptable in comparison Grin

Purpledaisychain · 25/10/2020 14:49

When did you fill in the contact form? Was it today? It could be that they don't have anyone in the office on a sunday and they just have an automated response.

bebarkered · 25/10/2020 14:51

SociallyDistantPenguin
The seller posted it at the post office. In Brighouse West Yorkshire. She definitely addressed it correctly too

I am waiting for something from a private ebay seller at the moment, should have come by last Saturday and still hasn't arrived. I feel bad for them as I am going to have to mark it as not arrived and wait for a refund but they lose out as they posted it but I can't do anything else. They can't send another as it was a second hand item so they don't have another. I have alerted them a few days ago to the fact it hadn't come and said I will wait until tomorrow and obviously if they give a refund but then it turns up then I would contact them and work out how to pay them for it but I expect it is lost now.

1forAll74 · 25/10/2020 15:17

The sheer volume of online shopping has gone up so much now, so sometimes things are going to be late arriving, or even lost. I have always been happy with Royal Mail deliveries, and also Hermes. I had a card through the door on my last Royal Mail delivery, advertising for lots of temporary staff over the Christmas period.

CovidClara · 25/10/2020 15:25

It sounds like she didnt send it tracked and so you cant track it? Not Royal Mails fault but the sellers

raise an item not received on eBay and you will get a refund.

No, I did a contact form on Wednesday and got a reply. Did the second contact form on Friday morning and got a reply today

I love Royal Mail. So much better than the other delivery companies as you can always go and pick up your parcel at a Post Office.

I too appreciate the prices etc about Royal Mail. BUT, my item that is "missing" is a £109.50 bottle of perfume. Hence my I Hate Royal Mail title (currently hate them)

Don’t deal with RM directly, chase up the sender/retailer as they are RM’s client

Then unless it was special delivery (which it wasn't) it isn't covered by royal mail anyway and so no chasing to be done.

Do an item not received on eBay, you will get a refund.

Iwantmychairback · 25/10/2020 17:35

I’m in Lancashire too.
A letter posted on Monday arrived on Tuesday, a parcel posted to me on Tuesday arrived on ?Thursday.
I love Royal Mail.
DPD however....said they’d arrive between 1.30 and 2 30 today. There was someone in all day until 3 pm. Got a text at 4.30 to say they had tried to deliver at 1.15 but there was no one in. Don’t think they even bothered to knock!

bebarkered · 25/10/2020 17:35

Throwaway100000 and CovidClara, thank you

OP posts:
throwaway100000 · 25/10/2020 17:37

If the parcel has been lost, you’re entitled to a refund; the seller has to independently claim back from RM. If the seller didn’t properly insure the parcel in the case of loss, it’s their own problem as you’re still entitled to a refund. Hopefully the parcel shows up.

Squirrelblanket · 25/10/2020 17:38

I ordered something on Etsy on 10 October and it was marked as dispatched on 12 October. I contacted them last Monday (19 October) to say it hadn't arrived and asked how they sent it, tracked etc? They told me that it was posted on 12 October by RM but that 'the post is really slow near me' and could I leave it ten working days. Anyway it still hasn't arrived so I will wait for the post tomorrow and contact them for a refund if it doesn't arrive. The sellers location is marked as London so it's either lost or not been sent. But either way it's up to the seller to sort things out. 🤷‍♀️

WeeWeegieWumminf · 25/10/2020 17:42

If it's an item that's valued at £109 and the seller didn't send it tracked or special delivery then that's unusual for expensive items.
Could be the item was not packaged correctly and has been damaged, leaked perfume over the label with the address possibly or the seller has put the wrong post code/ address on the parcel.
I'm a postie and everyone has been working their backsides off since the March, not much clapping going on now for our key workers 😂
