So sick of feeling crap

I wake up everyday feeling exhausted. I drag myself through a day of work outside the home and then home to do housework/ kid work.
My body constantly feels tired. I regularly wake with sore ears and throat but it never comes to anything it just goes after a couple of days only to come back again.
Today has been a very very difficult day. I’ve found myself falling asleep each time I sit down. I feel like I could sleep for a week.
AIBU to not want to feel this way all the time? I’m 37 btw not 197 which is how I feel most of the time.

Long covid?

TreadLightly3 · 24/10/2020 20:47

Sounds like the symptoms women were describing on Woman’s Hour this week

StephenBelafonte · 24/10/2020 20:48

Are you getting ennough sleep, do you have a partner, how many hours a week are you working/commuting, can you offload some housework

Frolicinameadow · 24/10/2020 20:48

This is pre covid but I’ve been tested twice and both negative. But thank you for reading

I felt this before being diagnosed with Coeliac disease, no other symptoms until I developed a rash on my elbows which prompted a test.

Maybe cut out gluten for 2 weeks and see if this helps.

To be honest I thought I was depressed, but cutting out gluten made a huge difference.

CharlieCoCo · 24/10/2020 20:49

Sounds like CFS. Sounds like me.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 24/10/2020 20:50

Have you been to the doctor and have they done all the usual blood tests, iron, b12, vitamin D. If any are slightly lower than average it's worth taking them anyway.

NetflixWatcher · 24/10/2020 21:42

Do go to the doctors for a check up as suggested above. Feel better soon x

mayflowerapplepie · 24/10/2020 21:45

Also had this with coeliac... It could be any number of things (I am sure we will all chime in with various ones Grin )which you probably need to talk to your doctor about before you write yourself off. Think of the practical stuff like whether you are getting good quality sleep, doing some exercise even if just walking etc and eating well and then go through any other symptoms you can think of and jot them down and then give your GP a shout

Frolicinameadow · 24/10/2020 21:48

Hi,
Yes b12 checked. It’s normal. I take vitamins recommended by a dietician.
I’ve done allergy tests and nothing dietary flagged there but I do eat well. Lots of fruit, veggies, good nutrients.
I sleep about 6 hours a night.
I do have a partner who is helpful and does more than his share. I work 40 hours my commute is 3 hours per day.
Housework I’m not precious about but I do have a cleaner for deep cleans as I just can’t manage it anymore.
My GP is sick of looking at me at this stage I imagine, we can find nothing wrong and nothing improves my exhaustion and pain.
I took up yoga, reduced and eliminated caffeine, sugar, red meat. I feel like I’ve done all the recommended things but I get more and more exhausted.
Is it normal to wake up and feel like I’ve been in a car accident every day? Is this part of getting older that I need to accept?

6 hours a night?! Is that it, I would be a zombie and feel tired on that. I need about 8-9 hours sleep.

Stupid question but have you tried to sleep more if all your allergies / blood work have come back ok.

travailtotravel · 24/10/2020 21:52

Consider early menopause.

Mummatron3000 · 24/10/2020 21:53

Have you had your thyroid checked?

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/10/2020 21:55

This may sound a bizarre suggestion when you are feeling so tired but have you tried regular outdoor exercise?

I used to feel constantly exhausted until I took up running again during lockdown and then continued it. I can be really tired after work but if I go and run it honestly helps me feel loads better. It also makes a huge difference to how I feel as the week goes on.

You don't have to run initially (or at all!) - brisk walking should be beneficial.

It may also help if you could get more sleep although I appreciate that's not always easy.

Sexnotgender · 24/10/2020 21:57

I’d feel like shit on 6 hours a night! I need at least 7 preferably 8 to function.

PersonaNonGarter · 24/10/2020 21:59

You might have depression. Sleepiness can be a sign of mental health issues.

Muckingfuddle123 · 24/10/2020 22:00

Sound very similar to glandular fever

minnie465 · 24/10/2020 22:03

6 hours sleep?! That isn't much. Plus 3 hr commute. I used to do a 2 hr commute each day. I was only mid 20s. I was permanently exhausted

WitchDancer · 24/10/2020 22:03

I feel like this with my fibromyalgia, other than the sore ears and throat. I sleep but wake up feeling unrested and everything hurts (not all at once). I get brain fog a lot of the time too.

Turquoisesea · 24/10/2020 22:06

I felt like this when I had anaemia, I was exhausted and out of breath just going up stairs but strong iron tablets from the Dr sorted it out. Also as others said there is no way I could function on 6 hours sleep a night working 40 hours a week, I would feel horrendous.

Theredjellybean · 24/10/2020 22:07

You work 40 hrs a week with 3, hrs a day commuting and you get 6 hrs sleep a night... Come on its not rocket science why you feel tired.
Your life is tiring... Its not medical or dietary or a food allergy... Life like that is exhausting.
Add in young children and the grunt work of family life... What do you expect to feel?

Ellabella989 · 24/10/2020 22:10

I would collapse on 6 hours a night with such a busy week. I need an absolute minimum of 7 hours and even that usually isn’t enough. 8-9 is much better. Anymore than 9 and I can start to go the other way and feel groggy from oversleeping

DayKay · 24/10/2020 22:22

I tend to need 7 hrs of sleep a night. I often only get 6 and feel like you do.
During lockdown, I got the right amount of sleep for me and didn’t feel wrecked every day.

Funguy · 24/10/2020 22:27

You need some tests, maybe you have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
I have fibromyalgia which is like what you describe but with added horrible pain.

SadSack39 · 24/10/2020 22:33

Overworked plus the commute.. and kids too.. jesus no wonder.. listen to ur body and cut urself some slack somewhere
