To throw my wedding dress away?

I'm having a massive declutter before redecorating a couple of rooms. My wedding dress has been packed away in a pretty box on top of my wardrobe for the last 15 years. It's taking up space and I'm not sentimental about it. I was thinking of giving it to a charity shop but while it was beautiful, and very on trend back then, I can't imagine anyone would want to wear it now. It seems wasteful to throw it away. Any suggestions?

Awww no. Keep it. DD tried my 1980 dress on last Xmas and declared it 'classic'.

You can donate it to a charity for sleeping babies. They turn the wedding dresses into amazing little outfits for still born babies.

Oxfam also has a wedding dress shop, you could donate it to them. Don’t throw it away!

There is a charity somewhere that makes beautiful shrouds for stillborn babies. My friend went through this and it gave her comfort for her wee one to place in it. I can't remember the name but they give them to Maternity hospitals. Might not be your thing but if you don't want to waste it.

Agree with PPs either donate to oxfam wedding or the charity for sleeping babies especially if you're just going to throw it away

What a lovely idea. The link says that they are not accepting dresses at this time. I will try and find a similar charity. It is mainly tulle so not sure if they could use that but the bodice was satin.

Honestly donate to a charity shop someone will buy it and alter it into something a bit quirky or similar.

I donated mine to a charity for sleeping babies, some of them will take the dresses and sell them in their own second hand wedding dress shop if they can't use the material, that way they still get the donation

Mine turned from ivory to yellow over time so I threw it into the clothes recycling bin at the local tip. It felt very liberating.

Don’t throw it away! That would be a waste. Definitely donate it - even if it’s not suitable in its present form someone might repurpose it.

I'd never ever get rid of mine. I couldn't. I'll never wear it again or do anything with it. And I'll never even offer it to a family member.
But definitely don't just bin it

I gave my 2 k dress to the air ambulance charity... Exh's suit went in the bin!!

I donated mine to a small local charity who use them to make blankets and shrouds for tiny babies born sleeping. They didn't advertise that they accept them because thankfully they don't need many, but took mine when I contacted them to offer it.

May be worth seeking out a small charity OP rather than a well known one, if that idea appeals to you.

I'm sure someone can find a use for it from a charity shop. Sometimes retro styles comes back into fashion, or it could be redesigned, turned into a little girls flower dress or used as a costume. Such a waste to throw it away.
