The one thing I was looking forward to has been cancelled 😞

There's a drive in cinema nearby that on Halloween is showing my favourite Halloween movie (Hocus Pocus).
Unfortunately because half of the stadium is in Wales and half in England it looks like it'll be cancelled because the toilet facilities will be in Wales so the English can't use them.
The screen will be in Wales and so they are saying the English can't watch it and the Welsh can't access it because the road leading to the stadium is in England and there's no road from Wales to get there.

You just can't make this up. Unless the organisers move the event, which they've got a limited time to do so, then the event will be cancelled.

So frustrating! There's not many events you can go to anyway so this was something I was looking forward to. Ugh!

YANBU it's rubbish Sad

In all honesty, I think it's ridiculous that they have to cancel it when people are just driving in their own cars. Have they not heard of porta loos? That would solve the loo problem.

I totally get it though OP -there aren't many events at the moment and people are trying to make the best of things.

pawsies · 22/10/2020 10:29

They are saying they can't clean portaloos after every customer and therefore it's not safe to use them. I understand that.
The frustrating thing is that there are toilets but because they cross the border then we can't use them 🙁
Apparently the police have said they will track people to ensure no one crosses the border so it's not even like the event can go ahead regardless.
Waste of police resources imo.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/10/2020 10:31

Seriously that is an absolutely ridiculous reason to cancel. Surely everyone will be contained at the event and can be easily traced!

Comefromaway · 22/10/2020 10:32

Such a shame. Storyhouse have contributed so much to the community and done everything they can to bring covid safe arts to the region.

StormBaby · 22/10/2020 10:32

We have had a huge Bootfair here this year with portaloos being cleaned after every customer, so they absolutely can manage this. It’s rubbish!

My daughter's friend who studies over the border in Chester was prevented from crossing the border last week BEFORE the Welsh lockdown despite you supposedly being allowed to travel for education.

Isn't the issue that they can't fit the screen, the cars and the portloos into the English side of the car park.
pawsies · 22/10/2020 10:45

It's probably both. I did see a comment about cleaning them from storyhouse though.

OMG. I thought you were joking at first. Mind you having a stadium that's split like that is fairly fucking bonkers in itself. Though thinking if Wales as a separate entity is also pretty nuts, to me, we are all one.

I'm sorry you're likely to be missing out.

AldiAisleofCrap · 22/10/2020 11:02

@pawsies you can go here by the MEN on the 23rd if tickets left
Location

Event City UK
Barton Dock Road
Stretford
M41 7TB

Stillfunny · 22/10/2020 11:02

I understand as I live near the border on Ireland. But for at best , 3 hours , do they have to provide loos? If people know no toilet facilities available , can plan accordingly.

pawsies · 22/10/2020 11:05

Luckily the local cinema is showing it today so I think I'll just go there and at least then I've seen it this year. If it doesn't get cancelled then I'll see it twice. I think it's likely to be cancelled though so would rather not take the risk of not seeing it at all.

MrsExpo · 22/10/2020 11:06

Missing the point a bit, but why on earth would you place a facility like this across a national border anyhow? I guess because they never fore saw an epidemic situation like the one we currently have.

However, I do see your point OP. So many folks have had to cancel things they were looking forward to. Feels a bit like we're all walking through a tunnel at the moment with no light at the end of it. Sad

thenightsky · 22/10/2020 11:06

I thought this was a joke to start with...

We all live on the same island/lump of land in the ocean. The bloody virus doesn't recognise man made borders. I've never understood this obsession with closing borders when we live on the same land.

AldiAisleofCrap · 22/10/2020 11:07

@pawsies or woodside drive in in Birkenhead also on the 23rd

AldiAisleofCrap · 22/10/2020 11:07

@pawsies two other drive thought if they have tickets.

BelsizeNameChange · 22/10/2020 11:11

Very annoying (also hilarious, sorry).

Why can the Welsh not go? Are they not allowed to drive through England and back into Wales? There’s somewhere we’ve gone on holiday near Haye On Wye where the road would around between England and Wales, I’m wondering how people there would get to the local shop if they weren’t allowed to cross the border.

LindaEllen · 22/10/2020 11:11

Surely the stadium has an address - so does that address say England or Wales?

IMO it's absolutely ridiculous to start chopping properties in two. Are there any houses on the border? Would you only be able to use half of your house and have to decide whether you're in England or Wales for the duration of the pandemic?

Yeah okay, it might technically be cut down the middle by the border, but for goodness sake, things are different between countries all the time what with different rulings on various things, so surely they picked which country it would 'officially' be in?

UncleFoster · 22/10/2020 11:11

Sorry what? This is an absolute pisstake

You cant cross the welsh border to use a portaloo? And they can possibly put a portaloo on the english side? If welsh people cant get there anyway because they cant drive for 5 minutes on an english road just make the whole facility england? Or wales? This is what Ive hated about the whole pandemic. Idiotic rules that make everything harder and no logic.

Jigglypuffler · 22/10/2020 11:11

That's fucking ridiculous!!

We have had local drive in cinemas a few times this year, ALL of them have used portaloos. They don't clean them between each customer, but there are plenty of handwashing/sanitising stations to 7se before and after.

I hope they screw their heads back on and find a way to keep the event running.

bettybyebye · 22/10/2020 11:16

Hey OP, fellow Chester resident here, couldn’t believe it when I read this last night...such a joke! I am hoping that they will soon realise the utter stupidity of this and allow it to go ahead...🤞🏻

The stadium address is in England. It's been a pub quiz question for years. And when we say stadium we are talking national league north here, not premiership!

The border is closed. People will only be allowed to travel for essential reasons such as food, education, medical care etc. Cinema is banned so the screen, which was originally to have been placed in the Welsh side of the car park has to be re-located but the toilets are the Welsh side and
JessicaPeach · 22/10/2020 11:19

I was confused reading this thinking storyhouse isn't on the border but are they doing it on bumpers lane?
