Covid app notifications

Posting for traffic... had a notification from the Covid app today saying 'possible Covid 19 exposure... I clicked the notification and it vanished, went onto the app and nothing... now I'm wondering what am I meant to do. The app says when you've been exposed to someone with corona you'll get a notification with advice/further instructions... anyone know what those further instructions are?

For those that have asked ( this in in iPhone I’m not sure about android, it’s probably googleable, I found this info through google) you need to go to:

Settings > privacy > health> covid 19 exposure logging >Exposure checks.

I’ve tried to attach photo of where my contact is shown. From what I gather the matched key count is the amount of positive results logged in that time frame. The matched key count was the amount of positive that results that matched with my Bluetooth key therefore giving me notification to isolate.

I would be interested in the tracing log as I had it late last night telling me to isolate for 4 days with the big red flashing circle in the app no idea when or where I come into contact with someone and was wondering on how accurate it was as I work in a school so would be good to know where I've encountered it!

Tattoocrazymum · 15/10/2020 16:40

Why on earth are people getting tested without symptoms? Its people like that taking a test away from people who HAVE symtoms. If you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, you self isolate for 14 days because it can take that long to show symptoms.
I wish people would read the bloody guidance 🙄

larrythelizard · 15/10/2020 16:42

I had a notification that said I 'might' have come into contact with someone positive...I've just ignored as no other notifications! Anyone else?

lolsurro · 15/10/2020 16:47

@larrythelizard this is exactly what I had this morning at about 4am. But nothing at all in the app. Judging by other replies it's a glitch, but not really good enough is it!

FecktheBoss · 15/10/2020 16:52

I had the notification about 15 mins ago. App is same as normal when I opened it so am assuming it's a blip.

Horracewimp · 15/10/2020 16:57

This is what app will look like if it’s an actual need to self isolate. In case that helps anyone. It’s there as soon as you open it up.

THIS EXACTLY...... is it REALLY so hard for people to comprehend. Gives me the raaaaaaage 😡

Vie8126 · 15/10/2020 17:03

Found the log mine has two at 20.19 last night minutes before the notification and when I was at home so assuming its when someone I have previously been in contact with has updated their app to say they have tested positive rather than the date I came into contact as all previous entries say 0 matches.

Tattoocrazymum · 15/10/2020 17:10

@whatsleep

I know I do not know whats so hard to understand.
No symptoms - No test
Symptoms - Get a test

fastnfurious · 15/10/2020 17:25

Found the log thanks, all mine say 0

lolsurro · 15/10/2020 18:00

Just checked my log and I have 1 match, should I be concerned?

Vie8126 · 15/10/2020 18:27

@lolsurro I was reading online it generates a score which then generates the notification based on distance and length of time of contact therefore if you haven't had a notification to isolate you probably didn't hit a high enough score. I can't remember where I found this but was somewhere online regarding how the app works and how the notifications are generated

singme · 15/10/2020 18:45

@Horracewimp the 5 in your matched key count could be 5 keys from the same positive person as a new key is generated every 15 mins. So if you sat near then for an hour and a quarter would make sense. Or could be 5 positive people. Hope you’re feeling ok either way!

lolsurro · 15/10/2020 18:56

@Vie8126 thanks. I'm feeling a bit nervous, wish that it hadn't come up any sort of notification earlier if the contact wasn't prolonged enough to warrant self isolating. Just causes unnecessary stress and worry. It's definitely not saying to isolate in the app, just the usual active and scanning. Thanks for your help

PuzzledObserver · 15/10/2020 19:22

I got 1 match for the check at 16:12..... but since the previous check at 14:12, I had been at home alone. So I hadn’t encountered anybody....

Also, can anyone explain the number of provided key counts? No way have I been near the numbers of people it’s saying, from several hundred up to over 2,000.

PuzzledObserver · 15/10/2020 19:24

Found the answer

faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01297

fastnfurious · 15/10/2020 19:40

@PuzzledObserver that's really confusing especially since you sat at home since your last check so how did it match 1! I read the article and it's just confused me but I am very low on caffeine right now ;)

OP posts:
fastnfurious · 15/10/2020 19:43

So correct me if I'm wrong (because I'm really confused) the provided key count includes every single person on the app who has tested positive? Or just our immediate area?

OP posts:
PuzzledObserver · 15/10/2020 19:47

I think it means that in between 14:12 and 16:12, 1,397 people (The provided key count) people had reported new positive test to the app.... and 1 of those was from a phone that mine had been close to. So they did the logging of their positive result while I was home alone, but I encountered them some time ago.

What is now worrying me is the number of people reporting new positive tests every 2 hours.... unless one person can be represented by more than one key, since the keys change. App users are still the minority.

MiddleClassMother · 15/10/2020 19:52

I've been having this message ever since I installed the app, there's no notice when you open the app so as far as I'm aware you don't have to isolate.

Crunchymum · 15/10/2020 19:52

@ihatethecold

my son had this on Tuesday when he was at work. his area manager told him to stay at work and ignore it. he decided not to (advice online was confusing) so he took himself off for a test and isolated at home until the result came through yesterday
Why did he go for a test? And did he lie about his symptoms to get one?
MiddleClassMother · 15/10/2020 19:52

Is it an iPhone too OP?

Horracewimp · 15/10/2020 21:56

I’m feeling fine, thanks to those who have asked. Obviously I understand that I could be asymptomatic so will self isolate until my timer is up.
The reason I came to the conclusion that it was from the table of 5 next to me at the restaurant was that my partner also got the notification to isolate at the same time as me but his key matches were only 2. The way the tables were laid out I was sat nearer to the whole group than he was, and the 2 people nearest to us were probably the only ones near enough to my partner for it to register a match if that makes sense? Anyway I’m only surmising, we’ll never know!
For the person worrying about having 1 key match but not having the message to isolate, from what I’ve gathered since researching, the algorithm deduced you were not in contact long enough for them to pose a risk. As far as I’ve been able to see the risk is contact of 1m for 5 minutes or More, or 2m for 15 minutes or more.

FunTimes2020 · 15/10/2020 21:58
@ihatethecold he should never have got a test without symptoms. If he was truly needing to isolate then a negative test without symptoms would not release him from isolation before the 14 days have passed.
Exactly this
