Car outside my house for over a month...

So I live beside a school entrance in a cul de sac, and in front of my house is space for 3 cars. I use one of the spaces to park my 1 car. This car has been parked in 2nd space, but edging into the 3rd space for about 5 weeks. It has no tax or insurance on it. I've never seen anyone driving it. It's becoming a real nuisance. There's double yellow all around the rest of the cul-de-sac - to stop mayhem at school times. There's only 1 space for the school collection now if I'm parked, and they cant really use that space as it edges onto the yellow lines as the mystery car is not in the middle. So my neighbour has had guests all week, and so he's using one of the spaces, the one nearest to my house, so I'm left with the 3rd space, which edges onto the yellow lines. Is there anything you can do about a car like that, just left there....

@FuriousCheekyFucker

I was once pulled over by the police in a Tesco trolly (me not the police)(they were in their car) because i wasn't displaying a tax disc.

I think i win the £10.

TurquoiseDragon · 13/10/2020 13:52

@FourDecades

OP moved from Ireland to Birmingham. Would that explain why she wouldn't know?
Probably.
AryaStarkWolf · 13/10/2020 13:54

@coffeelover3

Do you not have to display insurance and tax discs on a car? I suppose it could be taxed and insured and not have the discs displayed maybe?
You do in Ireland anyway
NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/10/2020 13:57

Ring police/council. They will tow it away if it's been abandoned.

One got left by my house once, the real giveaway was it was left with the doors unlocked.

BiznessKat · 13/10/2020 13:58

This happened to me. Sorry to say but it took over two years before it was finally towed away and destroyed. That was a happy day!

BanningTheWordNaice · 13/10/2020 13:59

If you live near a university it’s probably a student keeping their car so they can travel to/from home safely but as others have said unless you check their reg on the dvla website you’d have no visible sign of it being taxed and insured.

Wnikat · 13/10/2020 14:04

vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Will tell you if it's taxed and MOTed

If it is, there's not much you can do. If it isn't you can report it to the LA as abandoned.

Anydreamwilldo12 · 13/10/2020 14:10

Go on fixmysteet.com where you can report an abandoned car.

iMatter · 13/10/2020 14:15

You can report an abandoned car online, it's very easy.

I reported one that had been blocking our nearest bus stop for days and it was gone within hours.

RationalOne · 13/10/2020 14:16

@coffeelover3

If you are a driver then surely you must realise that you don't display your insurance policy in your car! You must also know then that there have been no road vehicle licence disks issued for some time now....

Are you a driver @coffeelover3 - what on earth are you displaying in your car then?

Yesyoudoknowme · 13/10/2020 14:16

You drive a car and you are not aware that this went out years ago? And when have you EVER had to display an insurance document - unless you are not in the UK?
RationalOne · 13/10/2020 14:17

I did assume that you were in the UK.

SpringFan · 13/10/2020 14:23

Our old car was nicked and left outside someone's house and after 6 weeks it was reported as abandoned, so might be worth reporting to the Council.

Longdistance · 13/10/2020 14:24

Chuck a couple of bricks through its window. Hey presto! ‘abandoned vandalised vehicle’ the council would be able to tow it away. Well, that’s how my council does it. In our area lots of abandoned vehicles. They won’t take them unless vandalised.

im5050 · 13/10/2020 14:24

Check on thr DVLA
If no tax then report it several times using different email address ( so it looks like different people ) or get your neighbours to all report it individually.
Report to the council as well and tell them it’s not taxed
If you have a local PCSO have a word with them as well .
Once they have put a yellow and black removal notice on the car it will be gone within 14 days
Can you tell I’ve just done this 😂

theemmadilemma · 13/10/2020 14:25

Someone doesn't drive a car... lol

RationalOne · 13/10/2020 14:31

@BashfulClam

well she lives and works in Birmingham and last moved house in March so I think from March is long enough to know that tax and insurance details don't need to be displayed on a car Grin

RationalOne · 13/10/2020 14:32

@theemmadilemma

Grin I agree with you - it was a question from a non driver about an irksome car and assuming it's not tax and insured - oops

TrickorTreacle · 13/10/2020 14:36

Next time you go out in your own car, give the other car a nudge. Do it discretely. Not too hard, but enough for the car alarm to go off. Then bugger off for the day. Then see if the car is still there when you get back Grin

Vanilla95 · 13/10/2020 14:39

But you have a car so how can you not know that we don’t display discs anymore.?

NoSleepInTheHeat · 13/10/2020 14:44

I had this with a bike, left just opposite my front door attached to a lamppost.
I emailed the council saying it had been abandoned, they then put a notice on the bike basically asking the owner to confirm it was not abandoned, and after a week or so it was removed (I suppose no answer to their notice).

user1471538283 · 13/10/2020 14:56

Report it as abandoned. I am absolutely sick of people taking the mickey with parking

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 13/10/2020 15:00

In Ireland you display both tax and insurance disks - if OP's running on Irish plates still she might not have realised that you don't have to display them in the UK.

Gobbycop · 13/10/2020 15:04

Phone the council.

Don't bother police with this. Unless it's a danger to anyone.

OrchidJewel · 13/10/2020 15:06

I presume your in Ireland. I rang Gardai about an abandoned car a few years ago. Dont know what happened but it was gone a week later
