Car outside my house for over a month...

coffeelover3 · 13/10/2020 13:05

So I live beside a school entrance in a cul de sac, and in front of my house is space for 3 cars. I use one of the spaces to park my 1 car. This car has been parked in 2nd space, but edging into the 3rd space for about 5 weeks. It has no tax or insurance on it. I've never seen anyone driving it. It's becoming a real nuisance. There's double yellow all around the rest of the cul-de-sac - to stop mayhem at school times. There's only 1 space for the school collection now if I'm parked, and they cant really use that space as it edges onto the yellow lines as the mystery car is not in the middle. So my neighbour has had guests all week, and so he's using one of the spaces, the one nearest to my house, so I'm left with the 3rd space, which edges onto the yellow lines. Is there anything you can do about a car like that, just left there....

This is really odd. How do you display insurance on your car OP?

MadeForThis · 13/10/2020 13:22

Check the tax and mot online. Just put in the reg number. If it's not taxed phone the police.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 13/10/2020 13:23

@WeAllHaveWings

If it is a public highway and the vehicle is taxed (you can check online) they can leave it where ever they want.

When you say it is edging towards the next space do you mean the car is moving/handbrake not fully on? Can someone push it back?

No, the OP just means it’s not centred in the space. But it’s very hard to park imaginary cars well.
AnnieJ1985 · 13/10/2020 13:23

OP if you are in Ireland, yes the discs should be displayed. Ring the local council or cop shop to report it. I think some fire stations will take them too, to practice on

potter5 · 13/10/2020 13:24

You can check insurance also on the MID website. Just type in "is my car insured" into google then put in the reg.

RevolutionRadio · 13/10/2020 13:26

Never had to display insurance details, tax discs no longer exist.

There was a car abandoned in the parking at my old house was there months missing a tyre so clearly wasn't going anywhere. We reported it, and not long after it was moved, maybe just coincidence.

FourDecades · 13/10/2020 13:27

According to previous threads, OP is in Birmingham... so should know about tax discs and insurance Confused

Rosebel · 13/10/2020 13:29

We have this loads outside our house. My husband gets really annoyed by it. We just goggle to see if it's taxed. If not we report it. I think the number is on the website where you check the tax.
Unfortunately if it is taxed, nothing you can do.

yunghun · 13/10/2020 13:30

Wait I'm confused Grinso you've been putting tax and insurance disks on your car ? Do you hand make them yourself? Lol. You've never had to display your insurance and tax disks haven't been needed for a good few years..

BashfulClam · 13/10/2020 13:30

Op hasn’t said she’s in the uk. It may be Ireland.

AvoidingRealHumans · 13/10/2020 13:30

Just here to laugh that op thought it should be displaying a tax disc and wondering what she displays in her own car.

PollyPelargonium52 · 13/10/2020 13:31

Car paperwork was digitalised several years ago.

Medievalist · 13/10/2020 13:32

A quick look at her posts shows that the op moved to the UK from abroad very recently.

gamerchick · 13/10/2020 13:32

@Charleyhorses

PMSL. Op, this mythical car you are parking every day. Does that have tax and insurance discs on it?
I was wondering that myself. The OP drives?! Grin
oakleaffy · 13/10/2020 13:33

@coffeelover3

Do you not have to display insurance and tax discs on a car? I suppose it could be taxed and insured and not have the discs displayed maybe?
No.. Tax discs haven't been in use for many years.
gamerchick · 13/10/2020 13:34

You can report it as abandoned if it's not taxed. They'll come and clag yellow shit on it and if it's not taxed after that they'll tow it away.

WorraLiberty · 13/10/2020 13:38

Stick the number plate in here to see if it's taxed.

Pulloutbed · 13/10/2020 13:38

When have you ever had to display an 'insurance disc' on a car in the UK? Certainly not in the 30+ years I've been driving Confused

Tax discs stopped in October 2014. What tax disc are you displaying on your car, OP?

SunbathingDragon · 13/10/2020 13:40

If you really want, you can ring the non emergency police line and check if it has been stolen. However, if it’s taxed/MOT’d/insured then it’s quite legal to leave on the public highway for 12 consecutive months without moving if you wish.

MsVestibule · 13/10/2020 13:40

To the couple of pp ^^ who suggested this might not be genuine - I sincerely hope that it if somebody was going to make up a problem to post on MN, they'd come up with something more exciting than this 😀.

FourDecades · 13/10/2020 13:40

OP moved from Ireland to Birmingham. Would that explain why she wouldn't know?

ExclamationPerfume · 13/10/2020 13:42

You can also register with isitnicked.com and see if it's stolen.

TheDogsMother · 13/10/2020 13:43

I had this for 6+ weeks on a road where parking was at a huge premium. Transpires that a neighbours son had told his mate to park there while he took a long holiday in Thailand 🙄

FuriousCheekyFucker · 13/10/2020 13:44

I once reported to the council a badly parked and abandoned fridge freezer.

It didn't have any tax or insurance discs on either.

Do I win £10?
