To fucking hate putting clean dishes away?

It bugs me. Then they come back out the cupboard for the next meal anyway. My kitchen table currently looks like a bric-a-brac stall at the market with assorted (clean) plates, bowls, jugs, glasses.

In my dream kitchen I have one large wide tall cupboard. I can open one door and it can all go away. Better yet, a wall of open shelving which holds all my crockery and cookware.

It's the bending down, individual cupboards for each type of item. Then the cycle starts again at the next meal.

I just hate it.

Yup it's like fucking groundhog day

BabetteAteOtemeal · 25/09/2020 21:10

Ugh I completely agree OP and was thinking the same thing recently.

I don't mind stackibg the dishwasher with dirty stuff (plus DP is useless and seems to chuck it in there silly nilly) but putting it away is a massive arse ache.

I like your dream kitchen/open cabinetry idea. Id also have a cleaner who cleans the shelves often so it doesn't get all dusty. And it would magically look nicely mismatch-y rather than old ikea dishes a few nice ones, kids bowls, chipped crokery all piled up together.

Nitw1t · 25/09/2020 21:10

I'll swap you clean dishes for clean clothes.

LooseleafTea · 25/09/2020 21:12

I mind putting cutlery away more I think. There’s more of it or something

LooseleafTea · 25/09/2020 21:12

My friend has taken to paper plates for a bit of a break Grin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/09/2020 21:13

I used to hate the clothes but now I just hand them over to the dc and off they go (I just do my own).

Tbh even the clothes I tend to launder three outfits, stack them on the dryer and pick one off the top to put back on.

My friend has taken to paper plates for a bit of a break Grin
My ex sil did this permanently. She still had to wash the pots and cutlery anyway so always thought 4 plates wouldn't make a huge difference.

Imagine eating stew or that sort of meal from a paper plate. I'm sure it created more clothes washing Smile

isthismylifenow · 25/09/2020 21:19

I am not a fan of unstacking the dishwasher either.

paddyclampitt · 25/09/2020 21:24

It's not as bad as packing the shopping away!!

Emeraldshamrock · 25/09/2020 21:24

I don't mind putting it away it's the easiest part. I hate wash up it is an endless task I do it after each meal we only have 6 plates 6 bowls it stops a build up.

BlueSuffragette · 25/09/2020 21:25

I hate putting the clean pots away but maybe not as much as putting all the food shopping away.

grumpytoddler1 · 25/09/2020 21:26

I can't get too upset about clean dishes, but then I don't have a particularly big family so there probably aren't as many. Putting away the clean clothes on the other hand... That is a job that makes me want to kill myself - and because I put it off it the job just gets bigger and harder.

BreconBeBuggered · 25/09/2020 21:29

This is why I could never be arsed with a dishwasher. It's the putting away that's a faff, and stacking everything in other people's dishwashers feels like another flavour of putting away to me.
I can't leave them lying though.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 25/09/2020 21:29

It’s DHs job. I cook, he’s responsible for filling and emptying the dishwasher. Done.

WingBingo · 25/09/2020 21:30

Emptying the dishwasher is a ball ache. Doesn’t even take that long.

caughtalightsneeze · 25/09/2020 21:32

I hate it. I'd rather clean the toilet.

Bluntness100 · 25/09/2020 21:34

This is the one argument my husband and I have

Me, It’s your turn for the dish a washer,
Him, no it’s not I did it the other day
Me, I’ve done it twice since then
Him no you’ve not
Me, yes I have get it done, I’m not friggen doing it. Seriously, get it done
Him, alright, when I finish work.

Every week, a couple of times a week. The same arguments It’s like a mental block for both of us. Neither of us wishes to empty the dishwasher.

When he suddenly does it, like the other day,,,

Me, I need to empty the dishwasher
Him, it’s ok I did it before you got up

I’m all,,,whoop! You’re my favourite person ever..😂

AnneOfAvonlea · 25/09/2020 21:35

I hate putting clean clothes away

SlopesOff · 25/09/2020 21:37

If there was room I would have 2 dishwashers. There is enough crockery and stuff that we could fill one and wash it, then use the stuff from it and put it in the other one without ever having to put it away.

Shopping gets shoved in the fridge and sorted out later, I used to quite like tidying the fridge, now it is a chore that has to be done.

KatherineOfGaunt · 25/09/2020 21:38

We don't have kitchen cupboards for this reason. Open shelves all over!

NomDePrune · 25/09/2020 21:38

First person up empties the dishwasher, while the kettle boils. Then it's filled throughout the day as and when. And put on at bedtime. You just need a routine. DC can do this from about 8

randomsabreuse · 25/09/2020 21:38

Yep. Then we moved into a house with a built in dishwasher and space to put our own (much nicer) one as we had washing machine and dryer elsewhere.

So we had a clean and a dirty dishwasher and you only had to unload the less frequently used things as you used the plates, bowls and glasses straight from the clean dishwasher.

Then DH changed jobs and we're down to one again. Unloading it sucks!

united4ever · 25/09/2020 21:39

One ideas is two slimline dishwashers. When you need clean plates/cups take them out of the one that has been cleaned and when dirty put them in the other. Just using them like a cupboard which can clean them. In theory you never have to unload the dishwasher.

thelegohooverer · 25/09/2020 21:45

I’m sure I’d manage to put dirty, drippy cups in the clean dishwasher.

I just need a scullery maid.

Time40 · 25/09/2020 21:46

Get open shelves, OP. They're life changing. They don't get greasy and dusty if you're using the stuff all the time.
