To think this is ridiculous? (Parking thread)

Just here for a rant about an extremely trivial issue here, sorry!

We live on a steep hill that also happens to be in the town centre so parking is difficult due to people parking here to nip into town/go to work, and due to how steep it is (it's very steep) it's not as easy to squeeze your car into a tiny gap.

There is a couple with a group up son who live right at the bottom of the street who have 3 identical Ford Fiestas. Now, although that is quite strange in itself, it is not the issue. The issue is that every time one of them goes out, one of the others will move their car to the spot they vacate. It is the same spot at all times, and it is outside OUR HOUSE, which is at the top of the street, as it's the only place to park that is on the flat. In our entire 4 years of living here we have NEVER seen that spot empty or occupied by any car other than one of their myriad fiestas.

Now, to make it clear, I am fully aware that we do not own the pavement just because it's outside our home. I want to stress that, as I know people will comment this. So I suppose I have no right to complain really, but (maybe irrationally) it REALLY gets on my tits!

None of them can ever go out separately, and if one is left home alone they can't take the car out as there is no one to reserve the space outside OUR HOUSE for them!

AIBU to wish they'd bloody give up and just take the bargain for a parking spot every time they go out like every other car owner on the street does?!

Diagram?

Aria999 · 25/09/2020 23:15

Lol that would really annoy me too. But I get mildly irrational about people parking outside our house even though we have a garage and therefore don't street park, also our street is easy to park on... so I may not count as an objective viewpoint...

I'm struggling to understand why a steep hill makes parking difficult.

I visited somewhere I parked on a steep drive, where the incline was so steep I physically couldn't get the handbrake up enough to stop it rolling. Non-driving male relative had to do it for me.
emilybrontescorsett · 25/09/2020 23:46

This would annoy me too op.
Can you park virtually bumber to bumper next to them. Or sprinkle bird seed on their car?

Having to reverse into a space up hill isn't as easy as doing it on the flat.
BoomBoomsCousin · 25/09/2020 23:50

I would be annoyed too, OP. But there's nothing to be done about it.

Asterion · 25/09/2020 23:51

That would drive me up the wall!

(See what I did there Grin)

quizqueen · 25/09/2020 23:52

Think very carefully where you buy or rent a house, I say!

MaggieFS · 26/09/2020 00:00

Can you get a parking suspension or order a skip for a week, just for the hell of it?

Cookiedough123 · 26/09/2020 00:01

Can you not make your drive bigger and drop your kerb then they have to move 😂

12309845653ghydrvj · 26/09/2020 00:10

I would order a skip.

Also this whole description is bizarre, with the identical cars, it sounds like a wez Anderson movie.

KeepingPlain · 26/09/2020 00:15

I'd feel sad for them. Their life revolves around a parking spot. That's just pathetic and sad. They have no life essentially.

PersonManWomanCameraTV · 26/09/2020 00:18

I think the solution is that you also need to get an identical fiesta. THAT will confuse them Grin

thanksitsgotpockets1 · 26/09/2020 00:22

Can you park outside their house?!! And what’s the appeal for them to park outside yours?

Keeva2017 · 26/09/2020 00:23

@PersonManWomanCameraTV you evil genius you 😂. Op do this!!!

Hell yeah!!!

RevolutionRadio · 26/09/2020 00:26

I'd be annoyed too but there's nothing you can do about it.

Gravity.

Keeva2017 · 26/09/2020 00:36

The weird thing is they clearly don’t need 2 cars. They are paying and tacking and insuring a surplus car? How bonkers!

Keeva2017 · 26/09/2020 00:37

Sorry 3 cars...

Pobblebonk · 26/09/2020 01:03

When possible, park your car immediately behind or in front of the case in question. Then, next time you see them preparing to move one car out of the space, nip out and move your car into it before they can bring one of their fleet up.

Yes, I know this is terribly petty but I suspect I'd be tempted to do it if I were in your place.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 01:11

You need to park your car as close as possible and sit at the windows, keys in hand ready to pounce as soon as they’ve left the space. Get your partner or wheelie bin to go and stand in the space and hold it for you.

🤣
Chloemol · 26/09/2020 01:13

If you are on the flat do you have a garden? I would be looking at getting a drop kerb and park in the garden
