To think this is ridiculous? (Parking thread)

Just here for a rant about an extremely trivial issue here, sorry!

We live on a steep hill that also happens to be in the town centre so parking is difficult due to people parking here to nip into town/go to work, and due to how steep it is (it's very steep) it's not as easy to squeeze your car into a tiny gap.

There is a couple with a group up son who live right at the bottom of the street who have 3 identical Ford Fiestas. Now, although that is quite strange in itself, it is not the issue. The issue is that every time one of them goes out, one of the others will move their car to the spot they vacate. It is the same spot at all times, and it is outside OUR HOUSE, which is at the top of the street, as it's the only place to park that is on the flat. In our entire 4 years of living here we have NEVER seen that spot empty or occupied by any car other than one of their myriad fiestas.

Now, to make it clear, I am fully aware that we do not own the pavement just because it's outside our home. I want to stress that, as I know people will comment this. So I suppose I have no right to complain really, but (maybe irrationally) it REALLY gets on my tits!

None of them can ever go out separately, and if one is left home alone they can't take the car out as there is no one to reserve the space outside OUR HOUSE for them!

AIBU to wish they'd bloody give up and just take the bargain for a parking spot every time they go out like every other car owner on the street does?!

Believe me I have been determined to eventually be able to slip into their spot while they are swapping but it's so difficult to make it to my car in time when I see them gearing up to swap! One of them will position Fiesta 1 to slip into the space as soon as Fiesta 2 leaves to avoid anyone else being able to get in there in the 30 seconds or so it would take to swap otherwise!'

So that needs two or preferably three of you on guard, with your car parked just behind the space. As soon as you see them approaching Fiesta 2, two of you move out to the front, ready to go and stand in the space the second Fiesta 2 edges out. In the meantime, the third person goes to your car and drives it into the space. Then all three of you smile winningly at the driver of Fiesta 1. Ideally try to organise it so that you don't have to use your car for at least a fortnight.

If at all possible, have a fourth person there to film it all for endless entertainment.

This sort of behaviour would make me mad over time! Can you afford the dropped kerb someone up thread suggested? 😡😡😡

So where was Fiesta 1 parked before this? Can you go and park in that space just to piss them off?

It sounds like you don’t have any off road parking op in which case I would apply for a dropped curb.
Then have it done if the cfers still park there go and knock on their door and tell them to move in no uncertain terms.

@MintyMabel

I'm struggling to understand why a steep hill makes parking difficult

Gravity.

Op- myself and my neighbor both have Ford Fiesta's, we live on a hill but his driveway is particularly steep. He has had his brakes fail a few times over the years while parked on the driveway and warned us when we brought it that it's a fault with them (having done some research and spoke to garages).
So it may go some way to explain why they want to park on a flat bit. But doesn't excuse the pathological obsession!!

myhobbyisouting · 26/09/2020 18:21

"Come on, is it really beyond you to think about what three cars parked by the side of a road look like without a plan?"

No @Pobblebonk

Obviously that isn't beyond me. But it doesn't make any sense. Where has their car 2 come from? They get into a car that is already parked and move it to another space on the same street.

DdraigGoch · 05/10/2020 17:08

Another vote for getting your own identical Fiesta and swapping it into the space. Should result in sufficient entertainment.

LadyCatStark · 05/10/2020 17:17

But they must park the other 2 fiestas on the hill somewhere, making the 3rd fiesta redundant. They might as well leave one fiesta there permanently and just use the other 2 for all the good it’s doing them. Imagine not being able to go out when you need to because the other 2 are out in their cars 🙈
