Curry’s washing machine saga

Shopaholic100 · 22/09/2020 22:29

My washing machine broke down (just what you need in the middle of a pandemic), I bought another from Curry’s which was delivered on Friday but was returned as it had a large dent. That’s when the saga started.

I spoke to them on Saturday and they said a replacement was booked for Monday but I would receive an email. Sunday, no email and I’m told there was a mistake she would rebook for Tuesday, but I would receive an email. Again no email confirmation so I call again on Monday after 5 hours on the phone (not an exaggeration), I am told it’s not coming on Tuesday either. The washing machine is in stock and they have delivery slots but I have to wait until the PU department gives approval this will take 9 days then they will arrange a delivery slot and I can’t speed it up, nor can I speak to anyone and a refund will also take 9 days.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m at a loss where to go next and have a mountain of laundry.

AIBU to think a large company should be able to resolve simple problems like an exchange for a faulty item in a reasonable time frame especially when they delivered the damaged item in the first place, the item is in stock and they have delivery slots too😬.

Do you have a credit card? If so, can you get a refund from Curry's and order from ao.com or somewhere else? ao do next day delivery.

Shopaholic100 · 22/09/2020 22:33

Sorry
Aibu 9 + days is a reasonable time for replacement date.
YANBU 9+ days is not acceptable

Unfortunately paid by gift card, so stuck. I’ve just purchased another appliance from AO and they were amazing.

Welcome to the crappy world of Currys diabolical customer service.

The credit card refund is not quick or simple ... you have to complain officially in writing, recorded letter etc ... company has to have time to respond .. etc etc

I’ve had no oven since 10 July. First one completely faulted, didn’t work at all. Replacement second one only works sometimes. Third one wrong oven sent. Fourth one awaiting delivery ... I spent over 5 hours on the phone over 5 days. Service was THE WORST I have ever ever experienced. I took to social media ... they were quick to get me off there and private message ... that’s how I got my first replacement sorted. Then after more weeks of rubbish I went in store and spoke to managers. After the THIRD visit I think it is finally sorted. Mind, I should have had a phone call yesterday with my new delivery date ... nothing ... so it’s back to social media tomorrow ....

wowfudge · 22/09/2020 22:43

Ah - that's a pity. Have you tried sending them a DM on twitter? I find the customer service via social media is often more responsive and helpful.

lhmua12 · 22/09/2020 22:45

Wonder if it would be faster for them to just issue a refund so you can immediately reorder it?

lhmua12 · 22/09/2020 22:46

Oh, sorry just seen that the refund will also take 9 days!!

God, I hate Currys. Their customer service has been extra awful since lockdown.

LittleMissA · 22/09/2020 22:48

We had a similarly crap service from curry's a few years ago and haven't used them since.
We ordered a washing machine from them as their fitters could come on the day I didn't work. The first time they were supposed to come it was due to snow so they cancelled even tho it amounted to nothing. They then cancelled the second delivery, when I called to find out why they had apparently damaged the washing machine and needed to find another one. After more hassle , missed and cancelled deliveries it finally emerged they could no longer fit it on the day of the week we needed so just cancelled in the end. I put in a complaint but they just were not bothered at all, no apology for all the time they wasted. We haven't bought anything from them since!

lhmua12 · 22/09/2020 22:48

Here’s hoping that they will get back to you sooner than the full 9 days!

Ovenhell · 22/09/2020 22:54

I too have said I will never ever buy from them again ...ever ... not even a small coffee machine, earphones etc ... NOTHING. They are abysmal.

Shopaholic100 · 22/09/2020 23:13

Oven hell I feel your pain, they just put you on hold or pass you around from person to person who all promise different things and nothing materialises. Or say they’ll call back again nothing happens.

Ihmua12, definitely won’t be ordering from them again! Just not worth the hassle.

LIttlemissA, I had the same issue a few years ago when I ordered my fridge/freezer but that included sending someone to fit it without delivering it first🙄. Feel very silly for thinking they’d improved.

Another person here who they have lost a customer over a faulty printer. I refuse to shop with them now. Push for a refund, you are legally entitled to it.

Shopaholic100 · 22/09/2020 23:23

We paid by gift card or I would definitely be pushing for a refund.

delilahbucket · 22/09/2020 23:26

You are still entitled to a refund even on gift card, then sell the gift card.

pigsDOfly · 22/09/2020 23:45

I swore years ago I would never buy anything from Curries again after they deliver a fridge/freezer to my house.

They were supposed to unpack it and install it, installing it involved pushing it into an empty gap. Instead they dumped it in the middle of my kitchen still in it's container and walk out.

When they'd gone and I started to unpack it I saw they'd delivered someone else's fridge/freezer. So there I was for with a bloody great big fridge/freezer stuck in the middle of my small kitchen until they decided to come and take it away.

Several years later I was buying a cooker and Curries had the one I wanted available at a very good price.

Against my better judgement I took a change that it'd be all right this time.

Turned out I was wrong. When the kitchen people came to install it they found that it showed signs that it had been dropped at some stage and the whole thing was misshapen.

Took quite a while to get that sorted out.

Curries are, and always have been a bloody nightmare.

dsg retail group..more complaints than any other shop etc with trading standards... really awful service...we did a sit in years ago to get a refund on a VCR which trading standards told us was used and worn out but package up as new...we stood in front of display and handed out leaflets...!!..got a refund in minutes and a box of tapes !!

pigsDOfly · 23/09/2020 00:16

*Just realised I've spelled Currys incorrectly.

Shopaholic100 · 23/09/2020 00:21

PigsDOfly, I had multiple deliveries too, the best was when they came to fit it before they’d even delivered it. I’m not sure what they do in the warehouse with so many damaged products

If you do buy an appliance from them, make sure you check before they leave. My machine was packaged and the dent was only visible once they took off the packaging. Trust your own judgement and don’t be pushed into accepting a discount by the delivery staff.

LooseleafTea · 23/09/2020 00:25

I would never use them again . They were positively dishonest after telling me a new Miele washing machine was faulty on arrival but then never followed through to collect it and exchange it and worse still customer service denied all this saying it was only my word (I had 5 witnesses to what happened on delivery!)) . they’d already installed it when noticed and therefore customer service said it was used And I couldn’t return . The whole thing was stressful as we’d just moved and it was all so slow and they were impossible to get hold of then hung up after hours in a queue... I could go on and sorry no help OP but to anyone else do look Currys up on Trustpilot !

Shopaholic100 · 23/09/2020 00:26

Ears up, I’ve ordered online line or a sit in sounds good, I could put my phone on loudspeaker whilst I wait hours for them to answer.

OP posts:
Shopaholic100 · 23/09/2020 00:30

Had this too loose leaf tea, ordered a dryer at the same time that had a dent too but not as big as the washing machine, driver offered 20% ( 3 witnesses) if I accepted said he would let the depot know, when I called nothing on the system.

We bought a tv from curry’s in February that was faulty, couldn’t take it back because of lockdown. When we did manage to take it back, in August, less than 6 months old, because it had stopped working, they said it had to go for repair not refund or replacement. It went away for repair but then they wouldn’t honour the 7 day repair promise that we had on a policy we’d paid for and the manager was the rudest I’ve ever encountered. So tv came back supposedly repaired. 3 weeks to the day we got it back it stopped working again. They still wouldn’t refund me or replace so it has gone in for another repair and it’s coming back tomorrow.

If it stops working again I’ve been told they’ll just send it again for repair but we don’t want it continually repaired as it’s obviously faulty. We’ll see what happens after we get it back tomorrow but I’m never buying anything from them again. Which is a huge pain as we live in a small town and it’s the only electrical store we have but they have lost our custom because of their terrible customer service.

rosiejaune · 23/09/2020 01:48

Why don't you go to the laundrette in the meantime?

Belledan1 · 23/09/2020 05:46

I bought a steamer off them that has broke. The nightmare I had to get through and when i do awful service. 3 hours one day just had phone on speaker whilst wfh. They said the first 3 times no record of it unless i rang back with a specific number which i could not see anywhere on paper work. Cant trace me by postcode! Eventually did loacte me by postcode and told expect a email re collection of it. That was 2 weeks ago. I just cldnt mentally cope with holding on their line and ringing back for hours. I should make time today though. Hope you get sorted.

dayakie · 23/09/2020 06:42

I had something by very similar - the only thing that got me anything like a response was posting on their Facebook page (nothing nasty just a "has anyone had any experience of x, y, z?)

They got back to me pretty quickly then, especially when someone else commented complaining of the same thing.

To be fair to them once they started doing something about it they did so quickly it was just getting to that point that was like pulling teeth.

I don't like resorting to social media for stuff like this but sometimes it's the most direct way to contact them. Good luck!
