Hotel threatening to sue us for bad review

Itsalongwayto · 08/09/2020 19:44

Unashamedly posting in AIBU for traffic. We stayed in a truly dreadful place over the August BH weekend. I wrote to the owner afterwards expressing our displeasure and with a long list of complaints including unsecure blind pulls, a trampoline with no safety net, water features with no warning, general filth and 1980s decor (I expect more at £300/night). Additionally one of the curtain poles fell down on my head. He wrote back ignoring most of my points but stating that he was disappointed that I hadn’t said thank you to them for fixing the curtain pole so quickly Shock. I submitted a review on reevoo and Tripadvisor, neither of which have been published yet......but he has emailed threatening to sue us if we don’t take our review down (I’m assuming he has been sent a preview). We have photographs of everything except the awful smell.
I’m assuming it’s safe to just ignore and block? I’m not taking my review down.

I would sdd that they are now threatening to sue, if it was me, and make sure I added photos.

@MiddleClassProblem

I’ve seen Groundhog Day many times but don’t recall a name. I’m shit at movie quotes too...
This made me laugh but I'm not sure if it was intentional or not!
BessMarvin · 10/09/2020 13:28

@overacupofcoffee

Lolasmiles I second that

I second the queries on the water feature and need for signs as it needs to be certain heights and rules.. signs everywhere look tacky and well let's get real water=caution around no?!
The decor did you not view before booking?
Cleanliness certainly
I read reviews look at photos and then book I suggest you do the same.
I survived childhood without a trampoline net and no broken bones.. so precious our our children they aren't allowed to break nowadays yawn

Many people have survived car journeys without seat belts but it's really not recommended.

@BessMarvin it was a little bit but also true 😂

EchoCardioGran · 10/09/2020 13:48

acatcalledjohn

No it isn't
Naming venues is not helpful at the moment.

acatcalledjohn · 10/09/2020 13:50

I was just intrigued given that I (and others) had bad experiences as wedding guests, so the naming wasn't baseless.

EchoCardioGran · 10/09/2020 13:53

Ah right. I'll pm you acatcalledjohn

Binglebong · 10/09/2020 14:08

Are the initials DHH? That's the only one that looks likely to me but the pool is outside.

MiddleClassProblem · 10/09/2020 14:29

TM

Marmunia1975 · 10/09/2020 14:59

The last few reviews have been written by the same person. I can tell by the syntax. It's worth reporting the 'fake' posts to Trip Advisor.

Itsalongwayto · 10/09/2020 15:17

@Marmunia1975 ooh. What’s syntax? I did think they were fake. Honestly, you might be grateful for a holiday at this place if you haven’t had a holiday in 10 years, don’t have a tent And someone else paid for it, but otherwise, no. I just can’t believe after the email I sent there are suddenly a tonne of glowing reviews.

TooTrusting · 10/09/2020 23:09

Syntax is the way a person words things structurally and the sort of language they use. We all have an individual style, and each of us will have out own idiosyncrasies in the way we express things.

TooTrusting · 10/09/2020 23:10

Dying to see your review. Just checked and it's not up yet!

Itsalongwayto · 11/09/2020 07:58

@TooTrusting its up now! 5th review down. And TA have replied re my email about the threats and are looking into itSmile

When you look at the hotel Trip Advisor, there's an awful lot of amazing reviews all written by users who only have 1 contribution to the site.

I can't believe that one of the negative reviews leads to the owner going on a Donald Trump style rant about fake visitors and how their competitors must be doing this to try and harm their beautiful hotel.

EchoCardioGran · 11/09/2020 08:14

Well done OP.

EchoCardioGran · 11/09/2020 08:20

Just been over to look. Three helpful votes so far.
Wondering why you didn't put up pics of the internals? Just the grounds?

EchoCardioGran · 11/09/2020 08:28

Correction. I see you did!. Horrible place! Great that you are a seasoned reviewer on there!

trevorandsimon · 11/09/2020 08:41

@dollypartonscoat

Can someone point me to the hotel in Pembrokeshire so I can avoid please!!
Seriously?! Of all the hotels in the area what do you think the chance is?!
Duggeehugs82 · 11/09/2020 08:54

Just been looking at TripAdvisor and if u look att the resent 5 star reviews the people r only made one review to that hotel, looks very suspect , i would say they r fake reviews

SquirtleSquad · 11/09/2020 09:27

So grim, I'm still fascinated reading his responses on Facebook and trip advisor - he's lost the plot!

Can't wait to see his response.
Perfect description upthread of the owner's responses to bad reviews as Trumpesque. He is unhinged.

smileyplant · 11/09/2020 10:09

It's an awful place! Don't let him scare you off!!! When I read your comments re the blinds I was particularly worried - I used to work for a company that made made to measure blinds and we had to go retro fit any we had fitted in the last couple of years or get a signed waived so I am staggered they still have them like this as there is no way their insurance would cover them if anyone was injured!
