Hotel threatening to sue us for bad review

Unashamedly posting in AIBU for traffic. We stayed in a truly dreadful place over the August BH weekend. I wrote to the owner afterwards expressing our displeasure and with a long list of complaints including unsecure blind pulls, a trampoline with no safety net, water features with no warning, general filth and 1980s decor (I expect more at £300/night). Additionally one of the curtain poles fell down on my head. He wrote back ignoring most of my points but stating that he was disappointed that I hadn’t said thank you to them for fixing the curtain pole so quickly . I submitted a review on reevoo and Tripadvisor, neither of which have been published yet......but he has emailed threatening to sue us if we don’t take our review down (I’m assuming he has been sent a preview). We have photographs of everything except the awful smell.
I’m assuming it’s safe to just ignore and block? I’m not taking my review down.

If your review is true then feel free to post it. I've just read the bad reviews and his responses and my mouth actually hung open at how rude he is! The reply to Allie M!!!

Can you even begin to imagine what it must be like to WORK for him!?

It's actually really pissing me off that he can reply to reviews like that and effectively call the guests liars, and get away with it! How does he still have any customers?

I always look at the 1* reviews. Sometimes they can be discounted but with replies like this

@Krampusasbabysitter it is OP decision, but it would not be a rocket science (since most people know the name of hotel), which review belongs to OP on TA, and it might identify her in real life by some.

He’s just hideous. I can’t imagine working for him.

I nc for this post and will nc again, so if it does out me it will only be connected to this post. I don’t think I’ve got anything to hide from. It’s a horrible place and I have pics to prove it.....and he is trying to blackmail me.

He used to own/run a Christian bookshop in Barnstaple....apparently it was his own personal charity. I’m going to make the brave assumption that he didn’t read any of the books!!!!

For the reviews, it doesn’t look to bad on Trip Advisor. Where are you all looking?

If it is an honest review and you have evidence (you do) he won't get anywhere with trying to sue you... Keep that as evidence too btw!

He is trying to frighten you off!

I second the queries on the water feature and need for signs as it needs to be certain heights and rules.. signs everywhere look tacky and well let's get real water=caution around no?!

I read reviews look at photos and then book I suggest you do the same.
I survived childhood without a trampoline net and no broken bones.. so precious our our children they aren't allowed to break nowadays yawn

He can't sue if it is of your opinion and of honest evaluation. Ignore him he's just calling your bluff, if anything refer him to the associated laws and ask him to refrain from further contact of will be taken as harrassment ect.

You are entitled for your opinion. Any negative feedback will effect a business of course but by leaving a honest review you are telling others of your experiences and this will help people decide if to go there or not. You done nothing wrong .

There are photos on google of junk left lying around in the grounds. It looks like an actual
tip. The rooms look minging too. I don't think I would've slept a wink.
