Lying to child about filming them

BlackbirdFirst · 31/08/2020 09:24

This is going to sound v judgy, but something doesn't sit right about a video on Instagram and reposted to Daily Mail.
Celebrity singer is filming her daughter who is about 7 dancing with her new partner. Child asks "mummy are you filming David and me?" And looks self conscious.
Celeb mummy says "no, haha I'm filming myself for a selfie"
Daughter dances on. Between celeb mum and her partner they have over 7 million followers.
Aibu to think that it's not really kind to do that to your child???

Wow, that's not nice. Post one of themselves but give the child a choice

TheHappyHerbivore · 31/08/2020 09:59

YANBU, that’s shitty

Clarinsmum · 31/08/2020 10:00

What isn’t nice is you posting this. Leave the woman alone, she has been through a lot and finally seems to have herself together. Let her live.

NoImNotPregnant · 31/08/2020 10:01

I don't like children being on social media at all! I think they should be given their privacy and allowed to decide for themselves what they want to show when they're older.

BillywilliamV · 31/08/2020 10:03

Clarinsmum..she may have been through a lot, but she does sound like she might be on track for putting her daughter through a whole lot more.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/08/2020 10:04

Who was it?

D4rwin · 31/08/2020 10:07

I'm surprised it's still on there. I took a photo of my child where he didn't mind, he was doing something I submitted it for a competition. Someone commented he looked unimpressed and I agreed he was "more interested" in the thing he was doing and hadn't wanted to actively pose for me. That picture was removed by admins as they politely told me I "failed to gain consent" from my child for the picture. It didn't bother me. But if a child is being filmed unknowingly like that and its clear cut I think it's on the platform to remove it.

Who?
RoadworksAgain · 31/08/2020 10:08

Yeah it's a shitty-mum thing to do, ignoring your child's lack of consent and filming in the first place, and then posting it to social media. I don't know who it is but she sounds like a bit of a gobshite.

BubblyBarbara · 31/08/2020 10:08

The kid needs to get used to being filmed if she’s going to get anywhere tbh

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 31/08/2020 10:09

If it's the lily Allen video, she just asks a couple of people if they are filming, she doesn't look any more self conscious or awkward than she did before, which was not much.

You're making something out of absolutely nothing for no apparent reason Confused.

Who though?
foamrolling · 31/08/2020 10:12

She would only lie about who she was filming if she knew there was a chance the kid would stop dancing or tell her to stop filming. Why not just say 'yes I am, is that OK?'.

But her mum then totally lies about it to her!

Lilly Alen. Her daughter doesn’t look bothered at all to be fair

It's not about her.

It's about her daughters privacy (and trust, since she's lied to her). That's a shtty thing to do, and it's okay to call out shtty behaviour even if the perpetrator has had a tough time.

Let her live by all means, but let her respect her child while she does it.

BlackbirdFirst · 31/08/2020 10:15

No, perhaps her daughter isn't bothered now.

Ahhh I forgot I was on MN, where nobody ever tells a fib to their kid, ever, for any reason.

Back in the real world, we all do sometimes 🤷‍♀️

Again, you're making something out of nothing at all.

IvyEf · 31/08/2020 10:17

I don't think this particular instance is a big deal tbh but I am surprised she's gone back on what she used to say re putting her kids on social media - she said she wouldn't. Why the change. Maybe she just sees it as a bit of fun?
Unlike most people shoving her kids on Instagram at least she isn't doing sponsored posts and affiliate links and all of that crap.

MintyMabel · 31/08/2020 10:38

I don't like children being on social media at all! I think they should be given their privacy and allowed to decide for themselves what they want to show when they're older.

Then don't put your children on social media.

It isn't up to you to decide other parents should do the same.

MintyMabel · 31/08/2020 10:39

But her mum then totally lies about it to her!

You have never, ever, not once, told a little lie to your child?

I don't believe that for one second.

foamrolling · 31/08/2020 10:43

Hm. Not sure this counts as 'a little lie' does it? She has 1 million followers. It's not like she filmed her and kept it to herself or sent it to a grandparent. The kid should be able to dance around and be a bit goofy in the privacy of her own family without worrying 1 million people plus might see her.
