For thinking the Dyson Hot and Cool might actually cool

Feeling completely conned. Bought the unit directly from Dyson in March this year. It obviously only needed to test out the cooling function when it got warmer. It does nothing. Forget about cooling - it doesn't even move air about well and it is EXTREMELY noisy so I couldn't even sleep with it on.

So I complained to customer services, saying I thought a product called Hot and Cool would actually cool.

Their response.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for your email.

Dyson fans and purifiers have no energy-hungry cooling elements like air conditioning units, they aren't designed to lower the room temperature. Our products cool you, not the room.

They work by circulating the ambient air in the room. The cooling effect comes when the air, dispelled from the amplifier at velocity, passes over the users skin. The higher the fan speed, the cooler the air will feel.

We can only offer to refund your product if it has been purchased directly with Dyson within the last 35 days as per our money back guarantee.

I mean Wtaf does that mean. It neither cools air nor person. I can vouch for that.

AIBU for wanting to get them to take back this £549 lump of uselessness?!!

Please help me by convincing them they need to take this pile of rubbish back and return my money. 😭

Could you tell us the brand/model of the mini air con unit @Babysharkdoodoodood? X
@FlamingoAndJohn fair enough but then why not call it the Hot and FAN! It's bloody misleading and it's a shit fan anyway.

As mentioned I'm now using a £17 Argos fan and it's bliss. Would have been happy if the Dyson performed at least to that level!
They do call it a fan.
Well a fan heater but at no point do they call it air con.

Fans are not air con
This seems to surprise people every year

That’s not the issue at all. As a FAN it’s crap. Utterly crap. That’s terrible considering it costs £500

EnoughAlready2020 · 15/08/2020 17:03

@FlamingoAndJohn I don't think I ever said it was air con nor was I expecting it to be air con - you're putting words in my mouth.

But I do expect it to cool - I don't care how - fan or otherwise. It just doesn't. It's beyond a crap fan. Tbh if it worked like the £17 I bought my son fe Argos I don't think I'd be complaining.

It also says it's got quiet technology. No it doesn't. You can't hear the TV when it's on.

I’m not putting words in your mouth but you were clearly expecting this fan to be more than a fan, which is not unreasonable given the money it costs but it is still just a fan and doesn’t seem to claim to be anything else.
Like many other posters on this thread have said it is an expensive fan doing the job of a fan.

EnoughAlready2020 · 15/08/2020 18:50

@FlamingoAndJohn do you work for Dyson? It DOESN'T do the job of a fan. This is my point. If it did, I wouldn't have swapped with my teenager for an ACTUAL fan. Sorry I might have been a mug to buy a £549 fan but I'm not an idiot.

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/08/2020 18:58

No I don’t. And I don’t know why you keep mentioning me about this when near enough everyone on the thread has told you the same thing.

GingerBeverage · 15/08/2020 19:52

Maybe you can complain to ASA, if nothing else it seems a common issue.
