AIBU to want non-rattan garden furniture?

I’m not a fan of it and it’s all you appear to be able to buy. Has anyone got/seen any nice stuff that they can point me in the direction of?

Am considering sofas, relaxing chairs, dining sets everything but not rattan!

My mum bought some nice chairs from John Lewis. It almost looks like thick rope. Might be worth looking on there.

Timesdone · 31/07/2020 13:36

Watching with interest. I might need some new stuff soon but don't want anything too precious.

Lockheart · 31/07/2020 13:42

It's your garden, you can have whatever you like. Why would that be unreasonable?

LizzieMacQueen · 31/07/2020 13:45

Europa do some heavy plastic/resin type furniture. Might not suit you for sofas but I like the weight and feel of ours (see chair in photo).

Lazy Susan does a range of cast iron ones.

There is a shit ton of other stuff, particularly teak, just google it, even amazon sells it. I’m not sure how you can’t find it and need to ask others to look for you.

MaskingForIt · 31/07/2020 13:46

Look for wooden furniture, either treated pine or teak. It’ll be much easier to take care of than rattan.

It’s really not.

Robs20 · 31/07/2020 13:51

I just got a nice sofa set from John Lewis - was also looking for non-rattan.

BasinHaircut · 31/07/2020 14:30

Because I’m lazy and want to see what inspiration I can get from others @Bluntness100

Of course I’ve seen other stuff I’m just asking if anyone can recommend any nice stuff. It’s fairly obvious that’s what I’m after.

We also didn't want rattan.....ended up with this....not cheap, but comfy and looks great.

Bluntness100 · 31/07/2020 14:41

Fair enough op. 🤣

Honestly I’ve both, the reality is rattan weathers better, wood needs treating and is a pain in the arse. Rattan is so popular because you can leave it out year round and just give it a bit of a hose down annually.

MaskingForIt · 31/07/2020 16:36

Rattan also needs treating, assuming you're talking about real rattan, and not plastic imitation rattan. If it is plastic rattan then it just needs hosing down.

Bluntness100 · 31/07/2020 17:12

I think thr op is talking about plastic rattan and not wicker.

YANBU
we also don't like it and when looking for sofa type seating it was hard to find anything else. This is Kettler which you can buy from John Lewis but sometimes cheaper elsewhere.

My friends have similar to this. It's metal. I was sitting on it yesterday. It was very comfortable.

I hate rattan also.

I have a traditional garden bench out of wood. I don’t see many sets of tables and chairs I like but I do on Rightmove sometimes so they must be out there!

EmbarrassedUser · 31/07/2020 18:16

I can second @MuddlingThrough1724 who suggested Whitestores @BasinHaircut. I literally just got some accessories from there for the patio including a ginormous banana lean over parasol. Honestly, it’s so big I swear you can see it from space! We measured it and even when not fully extended it was 9.5 feet across! Make sure to check your measurements 😂

geekone · 31/07/2020 18:23

We used a company that upcycle pallets and our furniture is awesome. The table had a trough for ice so you can keep beer and Prosecco cold (or I suppose plant something in it if your are inclined).

Attached is generic picture of same type of
Thing.

Also relatively inexpensive

EmbarrassedUser · 31/07/2020 18:26

@geekone Lovely. What’s the name of the company?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/07/2020 18:37

Also interested to know, @geekone

Movinghouseatlast · 31/07/2020 18:40

I have the pallet furniture too. It's great. I bought cushions made of yacht fabric that can be left on all the time.

Google 'commercial outdoor furniture' and if you have a good budget look at Vitra and Hay outdoor furniture.

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/07/2020 18:47

Yanbu

Cube rattan garden furniture will date like high backed pleather dining chairs, spotlights and office blinds in houses.

Ubiquitous and very ugly.

boobybum · 31/07/2020 18:50

geekone / Movinghouseatlast Are you able to tell us the pallet company name and also where did you get the yacht fabric cushions from? 😊
