Mayo left out overnight keep or throw away?

So the mayo was left out overnight, a brand new bottle which had been used once! It’s been warm out and I’ve only just noticed it, is it safe to keep or does it need to be thrown?!

How many restaurants and cafes have mayo sitting in them all day with ketchup and knives and forks?? It’ll be fine!

eddiemairswife · 22/05/2020 14:41

Sciurius You wipe around the top with some kitchen roll which is kept handy on the kitchen table.

KuckFnows · 22/05/2020 14:42

Nope. I would throw it but I am ultra careful so probably not the best person to ask

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2020 14:42

I use the squeezy bottles so no congealed bits here!

Nottherealslimshady · 22/05/2020 14:42

It'll be fine. Ours bounces between the fridge and cupboard depending on where theres space. Never had an issue.

dementedpixie · 22/05/2020 14:55

Same with ketchup - it's flits about between the fridge and the table

There isnt cream in hellman's mayonnaise.

Rapeseed oil (78%), water, pasteurised free range EGG & EGG yolk (7.9%), spirit vinegar, salt, sugar, sunflower oil, lemon juice concentrate, antioxidant (calcium disodium EDTA), flavourings, paprika extract

The vinegar and salt will preserve it and the egg is pasteurised. It is mainly oil too.

I'm genuinely shocked. We store mayo in the cupboard with all of the other sauces - opened and unopened. 20+ years of doing this and we've never had a problem!

MillicentMartha · 22/05/2020 15:04

Yes, think of cafés with ketchup and mayo bottles on each table, left out all day and (probably) fridged overnight.

amusedbush · 22/05/2020 15:06

My mum always kept the mayo in the cupboard so when I moved out that's what I did too. I've also never finished a whole container of it within the three month guideline. I'm also very lax with use by dates - I see them as challenge rather than a recommendation Grin

I'm still here to tell the tale!

Sparklfairy · 22/05/2020 15:08

Despite what it says on the label I always store mine in the cupboard and not the fridge.

I'm still alive I think

Keep it it’s fine, what about harvester/wetherspoons they have all the condiments out all the time including mayonnaise
Dd has often put ours in the cupboard by accident and we only realise 24hours later
