To demand collection today or forget it?????

Put stuff on Freecycle, someone was supposed to collect after 6pm on Sunday.....didn't turn up! They rearranged for today between 12-1 (I'm a childminder so stayed in after that time in case were late, even though nice sunny day).....didn't turn up. Emailed the person who said their neighbour (this is who's collecting) said they came but no answer - I WAS in, I sit in front on window for lunch and they did NOT come here, either wrong house, wrong time or lied. I gave both home and mobile numbers so why no phonecall if they expected me to be in???

Emailed the person back saying forget it, waited til 2.30 and don't want to bother again. They said to please don't give up and that they will make sure they come round. I've emailed back saying TODAY or FORGET IT (put nicer than that).

So, AIBU for being pee'd off and saying that?

YANBU, you are giving it free and you have already put yourself out for this person. I would say forget it and relist it on Freecycle if it's not collected today.

Debbiethemum · 18/09/2007 15:21

Not that I have ever used freecycle, but seems very generous to me. I would probably just have said 'Forget it'

looneytune · 18/09/2007 15:23

That's ok then, I did say to the person I don't blame them, I appreciate it must be embarrassing but I was annoyed to be asked to not give up FFS, me and dh wanted a bit of nooky on the sofa Sunday night but were worried they'd turn up but they didn't!

Freecycle is FAB, just a shame some people let you down like that! I've emailed someone else saying if it's not gone tonight, they can have it all instead. Glad I wasn't horrible saying has to be today

YANBU, I was peed off with Freecycle, some people seem to forget that the stuff is free and they should try a little harder to fit in with the person who is giving them something for nothing!

looneytune · 18/09/2007 15:27

Yes, it's annoying isn't it!! Twice we have got the gate open ready so they can just get the stuff once we point them in the right direction, not that opening the gate is a big deal but you get my drift!!

I feel better now....I'm just not used to being so negative to people I don't know, god knows why I felt bad after

looneytune · 18/09/2007 16:39

Oh FFS, I just emailed again to say I need to know what's going on and he replied baxck surprised and p'd off with neighbour as she'd said she'd call me straight away Why can't people just be fucking honest?!!!!

OP posts:
Bouncingturtle · 18/09/2007 16:52

Yep relist it "due to time waster".
totally annoying, some people are just f*ing ungrateful!

looneytune · 18/09/2007 16:57

I know, I just got a phonecall on my mobile and thought yes, finally.......it was another childminding enquiry and NOT this stupid women who keeps telling her neighbour she's calling, she's coming etc - don't believe that she even tried to come today!!!

OP posts:
alicet · 18/09/2007 17:06

YANBU at all. Posted an AIBU about freecycle recently myself - I find that although most people are lovely there are definately a small minority who spoil it. I know its mutually beneficial - you are getting rid of stuff you don't need too but FFS they are getting something they need for free and should make more of an effort.

Definately give it to someone else or relist it if they don't come today - their fault not yours

looneytune · 18/09/2007 17:41

Now I'm p'd off with myself

Lady just phoned:

"hi, phoning about stuff, i do want it but been busy building fishpond" I said "fine but I'm also busy and twice stayed in for you" she said "i will have it tomorrow" (no apology) before I could say anymore she said "i'll be there at 10am" and I said "hang on a minute, I don't just sit indoors, I'm in and out on school runs, toddler groups etc....let me think....tomorrow is wed...yes, 10am is fine"

and the call went on like that. I'm really annoyed at myself, how rude, no apology and no consideration for me hanging around I blame the fact I have 4 under 5's making lots of noise, 2 not well, baby screaming in background so I was all flustered and just went with it ARRRRGGGHHHH

OP posts:
LowFat · 18/09/2007 20:05

If she is not there bang on 10am go out and then offer it to the second person again.

What a rude way to behave when they are geting something for free.

Fishpond my bottom

Chirpygirl · 18/09/2007 20:16

Unless she arrive between 9.55 and 10.05 don't answer the door, or go out.
I give people one chance to collect, if they don't turn up then they can forget it and it gets offered to aomeone else who emailed.
It's free, all they have to do is collect it, so if they can't be arsed I ahve no problem telling them to sod off!

looneytune · 18/09/2007 20:38

I know, I know, I feel like a right twat!! So hard when so much noise going on, I was just FUMING at her being more concerned about how busy SHE'D been and no apology! Oh, and I don't believe for one second she tried to come round and no answer!!!!

OP posts:
alicet · 18/09/2007 20:59

Can understand how you got railroaded into this. However I think I'd be tempted to call her back (or even email - a bit gutless but then she has no consideration for you so why should you for her?) and tell her its too late. Your call though - appreciate this might be harder than its worth!

Definately would only answer door between 9.55 and 10.05 though if you do decide to wait for her.

charliecat · 18/09/2007 21:01

Can i suggest leaving the object outside, just behind gate or whatever in black bag. Then you dont need to faff about like this.

looneytune · 18/09/2007 21:33

Wish I could call back but got no contact for HER, just for her neighbour. I also wish I could leave it in a bag but not that simple - it's loads of bricks, slabs, gravel etc. so she's going to have to go round the side of the house - she'll be shown the way and that's all, I'm not helping!!! Defo won't answer the door after 10am!!

I feel so stupid, had a terrible day with teething baby, poorly toddler and 2 other hyper 4 yr olds and if it was calm and just me at the time, I would just have said no, lost ya chance.

Oh well.

OP posts:
looneytune · 19/09/2007 09:12

Right, I've set my watch if she's not here by 10am, I'm closing my lounge curtains and putting a sticky on the door to say gone out as too late!!

So, what's your bet?? Will she get her on time? Will she get here at all???

OP posts:
lou33 · 19/09/2007 09:18

i just went to see this freecycle site, and there isnt one message for my local area, no wanteds or offered

looneytune · 19/09/2007 09:21

OMG, that's shocking, if I have it set to email alerts I probably get at least 50 emails a say just for my town!!!

OP posts:
lou33 · 19/09/2007 09:25

well i clicked on the link for my closest 2 larger towns and they both came up saying we have no messages for this area

looneytune · 19/09/2007 09:31

Maybe it depends on where you live?

OP posts:
lou33 · 19/09/2007 09:32

well it's not a small town, my closest one is guildford

looneytune · 19/09/2007 09:33

Oh god, guildford MUST have lots of stuff, I'm in Reading and we're MASSIVE on Freecycle

OP posts:
looneytune · 19/09/2007 09:35

Right, Reading have 7001 members and Guildford has about 7400 members so there must be something wrong. I take it your are reg'd with them?
