'Cancel the cheque' GrinGrin

OP posts:
Whattodo1610 · 15/04/2020 11:33

disquieted ... I thought I’d seen it to .., obviously not Grin

I wonder if they showed bits on the news at the court hearing etc?

Also I’m confused as to the researching of answers then ringing up the audience/family? 20 years ago the internet wasn’t was it is today ... the Nokia brick shown says it all Grin ...

hollow .. yes, to show the others he didn’t know the answer and needed them to cough ...

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 15/04/2020 11:35

I'm loving this, it's great and I thought of MN at 'cancel the cheque' too. Grin

Rhubarbisevil hands off, I've lusted after ahem, been a fan of MM's acting since he was Tom in Spooks.

chomalungma · 15/04/2020 11:40

This is the Craig David quesion

Whattodo1610 · 15/04/2020 11:42

The original episode is apparently being aired on Thursday ..... Shock

Dollywilde · 15/04/2020 11:44

Another who thought of MN when they said ‘cancel the cheque’ Grin I also felt for the guy when his boss said ‘well of course we search them on entry...’ and he had to shake his head and say ‘no, we don’t actually’ - I’ve been that person in a meeting and it’s the worst feeling!

We’re not usually ‘itv three part drama’ people (god that makes me sound like a knob) but really enjoying it. Agree Michael Sheen is fantastic.

MehitabelWhurl · 15/04/2020 11:47

I sort of think that if he’d have been cheating he’d have gone “Hmm.... a... b... c... d... (reading out the answers in turn and waiting for the cough)... I’ve got a feeling it might be d.... ( waits for a confirming cough).... I’m going to go with d”

He could have made it look so much less dodgy in other words.

So maybe he didn’t cheat. Because you’d have to be really thick to make it so obvious!

Ginkypig · 15/04/2020 11:47

One of funny odd twists is the guy who helped them, when his turn in the seat after all that he got the £8000 question wrong and that dropped him down to £1000.

He helped them get to a million pound and them walked away with only a grand himself!

Celandines · 15/04/2020 11:48

Something i remember at the time but wasn't portrayed, is that after they won the million they were heard having an angry row in the green room/dressing room whatever it's called, which they thought suspicious as obviously it would be a strange time to be rowing. Maybe because Diana was annoyed he'd made it too obvious?

Whattodo1610 · 15/04/2020 11:49

meh..... you know he was convicted in court of cheating?? ... so he DID cheat ....

chomalungma · 15/04/2020 11:51

I love the idea of doing a home Fastest finger first device Grin

QueenOfWinterfell · 15/04/2020 11:55

I was astounded at how easy it was for them to cheat and wondered why the producers didn’t anticipate this could happen

CecilyP · 15/04/2020 12:06

I can't believe that they never actually aired the episode. I feel certain that I've seen it.

You have seen it but it was years later, not the night it was supposed to go out. It was pretty obvious there was something not right about it. Having seen the previous million pound winner, Judith Keppel, and how confident and knowledgable she was, the contrast between her and Charles Ingram couldn't have been more stark. I am really surprised that Chris Tarrant didn't twig there was anything wrong.

I am really enjoying the show; I was looking forward to it but it's better than I thought it would be. I am loving the backroom dialogue.

I am proud that I knew the Million pound question. I wouldn't have got there though.

I knew it but only because I previously watched the programme. I don't think it was common knowledge 9 years ago.

I didn't think it would be allowed that the fastest finger first group would be allowed to whisper to each other - they're not in a separate room, so why was that allowed?

I doubt if they were actually allowed but in a noisy studio, it would be easy to get away with.

HollowTalk · 15/04/2020 12:12

@ginkypig but as part of the deal, anyone who helped got 25%, so (if they'd got away with it) he would've got £250,000. He didn't need that £8,000!

Santaclauswhosthat · 15/04/2020 12:18

Parts of the script are funny but it's unintentionally humorous too in that it's so hammy.

And your man playing Chris Tarrant looks like Mike Yarwood.

chomalungma · 15/04/2020 12:20

I can't believe how many times that family got onto the show.

Especially if only 100 people got called back for the question.

I wonder how many people called into enter the shows - and how many calls did they make each?

chomalungma · 15/04/2020 12:21

Having seen the previous million pound winner, Judith Keppel, and how confident and knowledgable she was

It was a question about Queens in France wasn't it?
And she'd just been there on holiday and read about it?

CecilyP · 15/04/2020 12:23

Yes, that definitely helped her get the most obscure question correct! Inspiration for Slumdog Millionaire, I suppose!

Bdayupset · 15/04/2020 12:23

Can someone point me in the right direction for this? No idea what or where it is. (apart from the obvious)

Santaclauswhosthat · 15/04/2020 12:24

Mike Yarwood:

chomalungma · 15/04/2020 12:26

This is how you win

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 15/04/2020 12:30

Bdayupset the first two episodes will be on the ITV Hub, concluding episode on ITV1 at 9pm tonight. It's well worth a watch.

Pelleas · 15/04/2020 12:34

I laughed at 'cancel the cheque' Grin.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 15/04/2020 12:42

YABVVVVU (as was I for laughing too) as it was far too early in the proceedings for them to think about cancelling the cheque. You can't consider this course of action until at least 6 months after the cheque has been safely banked (and all the money probably spent) Grin

Ginkypig · 15/04/2020 12:44

hollowtalk

Yes I knew that but I just meant that if you remove the cheating element of the story i just thought it was interesting that this guy who helped someone get all the way to a million only got to £1000 on his own turn.

Gre8scott · 15/04/2020 12:48

I'm.loving it takes me back to a very funny time when a family member got on
