Barclaycard scam email warning

vitavita · 20/03/2020 17:53

I just got an email from barclaycard with my first name and the last four digits of a card number, it was all about what they are doing to help customers during the corona virus outbreak and contained a link to view the full message online.

I don't have, and have never had, a Barclay card.

I'm a Barclays customer (debit card not a Barclaycard credit card) and I got an email about it. My first name and last 4 digits of my account number. No link to click though it was all there when I opened the email.

vitavita · 20/03/2020 18:03

I'm not a Barclays customer for anything

Are you sure you haven't? I have had the d act same email today from Barclay card, with my name and the last four digits of my credit card... it's completely legitimate. The email address is a Barclay email

vitavita · 20/03/2020 18:07

Yes, quite sure. I've had the same two bank accounts for over twenty years.

I got one and it had exactly the same information as on the Barclaycard website. I didn't click through, because I never do. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there's a genuine email AND a copycat scam.

imnottoofussed · 20/03/2020 18:20

I got one and I'm also a Barclaycard customer. I would be contacting them if I were you to check this out

Troels · 20/03/2020 18:27

I got one too, last 4 digits of my Barclays account and my first name only Titled Corona virus we're here to help.
No links to click just letting me know about mortgages, savings and cash advances.
email it came from is [email protected]
Is that legit a email address?
I deleted it to trash.

vitavita · 20/03/2020 21:00

I would be contacting them if I were you to check this out

I don't need to, I'm not a customer and never have been so I know it's a scam.

We are all telling you there IS a Barclaycard email going around today and you’re adamant yours is a scam instead of checking the information? Someone could have opened a Barclaycard in your name as part of identity fraud but you keep being in your high horse over there.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/03/2020 21:08

Scams are absolutely ride at the moment.

WhatHappenedThen · 20/03/2020 21:08

I e got a legitimate email.
I’d call them and check.

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/03/2020 21:09

Rife bloody autocorrect

WhatHappenedThen · 20/03/2020 21:09

[email protected]

This is who my email was from. OP, who was yours from?

Verite1 · 20/03/2020 21:50

I also got a genuine email. Mine was from [email protected]. OP as others have said, it would be a good idea to just check it out in case someone has opened a card in your name.

Oldestchild90s · 20/03/2020 21:57

I received one today too!

Sexnotgender · 20/03/2020 22:00

I got the same email from the address Verite1 posted.

If you don’t nor have ever had a Barclaycard then I suggest phoning them. It might not be a scam email you might have been a victim of identity fraud.

vitavita · 20/03/2020 22:04

If it was identity fraud then they wouldn't have my real email address.

OP posts:
MrsBobBlackadder · 20/03/2020 22:05

Another one here who got a genuine email today Confused

ShellsAndSunrises · 20/03/2020 22:08

If it was identity fraud then they wouldn't have my real email address

I wouldn’t count on that. I had two barclays accounts (a normal account with overdraft and a barclaycard) opened fraudulently in my name last year. Both applications used my email address.

This is a legit email. I’d be looking into it. It was a nightmare getting the accounts in my name closed.

UnfinishedSymphon · 20/03/2020 22:24

I've had ones this week from tsb, Barclaycard and natwest, I don't hold accounts with any of them. I wouldn't be clicking on any links if I were you

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/03/2020 22:26

If it was identity fraud then they wouldn't have my real email address.

Maybe a customer managed to give them the wrong email address? Happens a lot!

RowenaRavenclawsLostDiaphragm · 20/03/2020 22:41

I had one too tell if me the last four digits of a card I've never owned.

Alwaysoverthinkingit34 · 20/03/2020 22:48

My partner had a bank account opened in his name with real email on it. However, we only found out when an alert came through on Experian to say it was opened. He spoke to bank and they said it had been opened and email and dob was correct but postal address was different. People open banks to get cards then use them for unauthorised payments/overdrafts in your name.

You should call Barclaycard. I also got email from them and I’m a customer.

Coughsyrupsucks · 20/03/2020 23:03

Someone has probably given out your email address as their contact email to Barclaycard. I get it all the time, wedding planners, great north run applications, plane tickets, family reunions, Texan dog hotel reservations. Quite how people can’t know their email addresses in 2020 is beyond me, but they don’t.

TerrorWig · 20/03/2020 23:45

Please don’t phone them. They’re totally overloaded and they cannot do anything for you

Search for the phishing email link on the site.

FWIW I work for Barclays and they have been sending these emails in tranches since 3am. They’ve gone to all customers of Barclays and Barclaycard, also if you’ve ever had a mortgage that might have been Woolwich once upon a time.
