As title says really, looking to buy a small car just for driving to work and back do about 7000 miles a year, been looking at fiat 500s but been told there rubbish, does anyone have one and like it ? What are they like for mpg and fuel ? I think there really cute and funky, not really AIBU but posting for traffic 👀

@Beau20 I drive my cars absolutely fine! The car I had before made it to 120k before a new clutch. And I was only driving it in the city so nothing challenging to break the suspension.

What was more telling was that the garage was not surprised to be replacing the clutch at that point. Said they'd already done some. Definitely not my fault!

I love my Fiat 500. It's a dualogic so it's a roboticized manual rather than a true auto.

Have driven on motorway no problem and it's very fuel efficient. Can drive in the London ULEZ and residents parking cheap also. It's a 2017 reg but still underpowered uphill- I also had a terrifying moment up a steep hill. But mostly use in London so it's not an issue for me.

They’re fab little cars. Quite a high driving position for a dink of a car. Great safety rating.

They are so small, so unstable, pinched for headroom in the back and just hideous to drive. A mini would be better. Equally as desirable and aesthetic, better balanced, a more fun driving experience and ten-a-penny on the used car market.

We had one and I absolutely hated it, have a VW Up as our second car now and it’s far superior. The 500 was style over substance, it was slow, noisy and not particularly fuel efficient. For context it’s MPG was the same as my old fiesta ST! Added to that the constant knocks and rattles, and shabby build quality that led to a door handle coming away in my husbands hand, it’s not a car I’d recommend.

I have been unlucky enough to get a couple of 500s as hire cars. They are truly horrid little things. The VW Up, Toyota Yaris or Ford Fiesta are much better cars in every way. I wouldn’t choose a car based on ‘cuteness’.

I had one for 6 years and absolutely loved it. No problems with it at all. It sadly had to go when my kids got really tall!
