What are they like for mpg and fuel ? I think there really cute and funky, not really AIBU but posting for traffic 👀

Test drive one and see what you think. I love them. I've had two and the newer models feel just as sturdy as the Minis to me (I've had a Mini too). Strangely enough the Mini was forever back and forwards to the garage but I never had any problems with either of my Fiats. I hated a Kia - that felt like a tin can. Hondas are fine but the smaller ones aren't as responsive as the Fiat 500s imo.

Blueuggboots · 02/03/2020 18:01

I had two and loved both of them!!
Great little cars.

Ticklemelmo · 02/03/2020 18:12

I have one and trying to sell it cos I need something bigger ( where are you based? 😉 )
It's a great run around car as it's very nippy, but I've also made long distance journeys in it on the motorway and feel safe.
It's really cheap to run, I pay £62 monthly in insurance as a new driver and around £55 in tax. Petrol is about £30 to fully fill up.

Only problems I've found with it are a few cosmetic things have broken such as door handle and the the gear stick have come loose but still work, the car is 6 years old.
I've also only done about 5k miles in the year I've had it so it's perfect if you're just wanting a car for little trips. I'll be sad to get rid!

I’m not keen. They look cheap and nasty and the plastic interior looks like an iPod on wheels. I don’t have any drive experience of them. If you like it, go for it

Whatishappening9876 · 02/03/2020 18:56

I'd recommend Vauxhall Adam! Similar style but a better car I think.

susandelgado · 02/03/2020 19:05

I had one for three years and loved it! Mine was automatic though. Despite that I had great mileage out of it and it was brilliant around town and easy to park. I'd love to have one again as a second car ( got a 4X4 now)

Hingeandbracket · 02/03/2020 19:09

Ford KA is the same mechanical platform (although FIAT has some unique engines).

Monetmoney · 02/03/2020 19:10

I used to have one and loved it! I replaced it with a Mini which I love even more but definitely isn't as good on fuel as the Fiat was.

MsRinky · 02/03/2020 19:12

I loved my Fiat500 with a passion, but when we got rid of our second car it just wasn't comfortable for my 6 foot DH for any journey over about 30 minutes. Still miss it a little bit.

adaline · 02/03/2020 19:15

I have a Ford KA that I absolutely love.

Piglet208 · 02/03/2020 19:15

Fiat 500's really are the marmite of the car world. I love mine. Had it for 4 years and it's passed every MOT and never broken down. Fuel economy is excellent. It's perfect for driving around town and easy to park. It is cute rather than sturdy it nothing has ever fallen off despite all the warnings I was given by haters when I bought it!

PurpleDaisy2114 · 02/03/2020 19:18

I loved mine. Check it has air con as mine didn't and was boiling in summer. It made me smile every time I got in it. I don't know, it just made me happy. Felt like a cute funky car. My fave car ever.
However I was in car accident all front impact and I think because car so small that was why it was write off.

MozzchopsThirty · 02/03/2020 19:19

Rubbish cars, feels like driving a dodgem
Never felt safe in it
It just started to fall apart after 3 years

Minis are so much better, feels sturdy

PepePig · 02/03/2020 19:30

Had one as my first car for 6 years. Nothing ever broke. Fab car.

AliBear90 · 02/03/2020 19:37

If you’ve looked at them exterior and interior go for it. I love mine. Do similar mileage to what you say you’ll do. Cheap to run. Costs me about £40 petrol every 2 weeks or so sometimes less. I also have a 9 month old and manage just fine getting her in and out of it with a 360 spin car seat in case you think of having children with the car too xx

Ginfilledcats · 02/03/2020 19:57

I loved mine, looked cool and funky, good mpg. Only problem was it broke. All the damn time. Cost me thousands. Got rid. Wouldn't recommend sorry

faracrossthepond · 02/03/2020 20:03

@Brabble I know 3 people with Fiat 500s (all young women) and the cars are all less than 2 years old, and they are SHIT. All 3 women have had issues ranging from her windscreen shattering twice, her tyres blowing out when she clipped a kerb, the ignition failing, the bonnet popping up when doing 50 mph, the seatbelts fraying, and the brakes needing replacing within a year of buying it.

Looks cute, but worst car ever IMO.

Rainbowsparkle · 02/03/2020 21:46

I looooove my fiat 500. Easy to fit in small spaces, cheap To run and surprising how much you can fit in the boot!
Mine has full leathers which I love. I’m 5”1 so perfect for me!

Sunshineand · 02/03/2020 21:55

I was in a 100mph head on collision in mine - it saved my life!

Ok, who was doing 100mph and do you really mean a head on collision? Seems unbelievable you'd survive that in a fiat 500.

Sunshineand · 02/03/2020 21:55

@Beau20

letsghostdance · 02/03/2020 22:16

Do not. Save yourself.

Mine had a new clutch (£1k) at 15000 miles and one month after the warranty ended.

New front and back suspension at 21k miles (£250 for each)

And by the time I handed it back to the HP Company at 24k miles there was an ominous squeaking coming from the back.

Just don't do it.

MissingSilence · 02/03/2020 22:25

I used to love mine!

Jupiters · 03/03/2020 00:42

I love mine and would definitely have another!

Dita73 · 03/03/2020 00:57

They’re bloody awful. Get a Toyota Aygo

Beau20 · 03/03/2020 08:28

@Sunshineand I was doing 40mph and the guy that hit me 60mph so yes, 100mph collision. Head on. And yes, I survived as I am writing this message - would you like me to upload photos of the cars or has that satisfied you? Jesus.
