Putting marmite on toast..

It looks like its gone through a shredder! I'm so annoyed by it!! I toast the bread to optimum toasty ness (nearly burnt but not) Then I put the marmite on. No butter. Do I need butter? And I'm actual french salty butter here not margarine.

By the time I'm done spreading it out it's shredding the toast there's a hole in one bit, no marmite in the corners :( am I not using enough?!

I have had the same problem, my cunning plan is I am going to try and mix up some butter and Marmite in a ramekin hoping to create an easily spreadable combination.

I blame the bread, I’m afraid. Of COURSE you should have butter (and, yes, proper french butter is great - definitely not any margarine shite) I can’t think why you even contemplated this venture without it. Don’t, for pity’s sake, go mixing them together beforehand: let your toast cool slightly, bread the butter (quite thickly), then marmite away. But as I say, I suspect your bread is not up to the task. Rubbishy sandwich bread is like soggy dust when toasted, you need some proper sourdough or similarly robust bread.

swap the bread for crumpets...make sure the crumpets are double done in the toaster and it must be real butter. My strange cat then licks the plate....

The secret of marmite spreading is not trying to spread it on the toast to scrape it off.

Definitely butter.

But you need to let the toast cool down quite a bit or the marmite goes like quicksilver.
