Hi all

How do you feel about giving yourself, your loved ones(children, elderly) CBD?

StillMedusa · 23/02/2020 01:08

I would absolutely give it.
My DD2 is a childrens hospice nurse... and has seen the absolutely miracle it is for children with intractible epilepsy.. literally a life saver (these are legally prescribed and a couple of not legally prescribed that parents give)
I think in time it will become as useful and accessible as paracetamol... with far fewer side effects!

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 01:11

@StillMedusa I agree with you 100%

DH uses it for managing his anxiety and also sleep issues relating to autism. It works well for him.

I vape CBD oil for a neurological disorder that has no effective treatment or cure. I get diazepam and codeine on repeat prescription, and CBD reduces the amount I need to use. It acts as an effective muscle relaxant, drastically reduces my symptoms, doesn't make me constipated or stoned.

wobblywinelover · 23/02/2020 01:16

If a decent form of it is regulated to give in this country for medicinal purposes then yes why not? The experts know best, they haven't just dragged a bit of weed off the street , it's been well researched. If it's legal then you're entitled to have it. Educate yourself on the benefits and downsides and make your own decision, do this by looking and medical research documents and reliable research. You'll always get a wide range of answers on mumsnet due to the amount of people who post some will say yes, some will say no. Are you going to really form the decision based on lots of random people on mumsnet when most of us know very little about it?. It's just your decision really.

I’m in the US, so have access to medicinal marijuana, which has cured my insomnia where Ambien, Trazadone and Ambien PM could not. It is incredible stuff and I am finally sleeping after years of painful struggle.

BitOfFun · 23/02/2020 01:47

I support it's availability where clinically indicated- who wouldn't?

As somebody with incurable cancer, what pisses me off is the way it is touted as some kind of cure-all. I have lost count of the number of (lovely, well-meaning) people who have suggested it to me. As if Darren down the pub can fix me with his "full strength" gear, and its efficacy has somehow been missed by my oncologists, who are doing everything they can with the evidence-based medicine in which I am so closed-minded to place my trust.

I smile and nod, but it's not for me.

Stressedout10 · 23/02/2020 02:35

@bitoffun
I have hurd that it useful for the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy rather than as a cancer treatment itself could that be what they mean?

ImOnlyHereForTheCapybaras · 23/02/2020 02:38

I took some before Christmas. ongoing neurological disorder with muscle spasms, stiffness, pain. made me feel worse, I found my mouth closing involuntarily and hard to mov emy tongue.

Frownette · 23/02/2020 02:44

I was curious about it for anxiety/sleep but haven't tried it

BitOfFun · 23/02/2020 03:27

Stressed, that's possible (but not the way it gets pitched to me), but as far as I'm aware, there's still no evidence it helps.

Frownette · 23/02/2020 03:32

@ImOnlyHereForTheCapybaras that really doesn't sound very nice

Frownette · 23/02/2020 03:33

How long did it take to wear off?

EmeraldShamrock · 23/02/2020 03:44

I don't think the ones available in stores are any good. My uncle uses the real 80% CBD oil from Spain it helps with shakes.
Without the THC or high concentration CBD I think it has a placebo effect. If it works great, it is a bit like coconut oil.

ImOnlyHereForTheCapybaras · 23/02/2020 04:48

Frownette The mouth thing wore off in less than a day but the rest of me was very stiff (worse than usual) for a whole weekend).

EmeraldShamrock · 23/02/2020 05:17

@ImOnlyHereForTheCapybaras It sounds like an allergic reaction rather than the CBD strength. Was it the real 80%CBD or THC oil if neither, just the 10% standard I'd think it was an allergic reaction.

Monty27 · 23/02/2020 05:22

If it works and you have access to it go for it. Wishing you all good health and pain relief that won't kill you Flowers

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 08:31

I've used the CBD from Holland and Barrets and I've also allowed my children to use it as they both have medical problems. My daughter who has extreme asthma(nearly lost her twice) was on loads of medication. Since giving her the CBD she now ok let uses 2 lots of medication.

Some people will have a mixed reaction to the of CBD but I have done all my research on CBD for a long time before I thought about giving it to my children.

Honeyned · 23/02/2020 14:25

What dosage do people use? In what form? Been curious for a while, but worried about interactions with the current medication I'm on.

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 16:42

@Honeyned
If you was to get the bottle of CBD from Holland and barrets then is two drops 4 times a day.
I have noticed that once taking CBD I don't need no other medication

FredaFox · 23/02/2020 16:43

My mum has a neurological disorder and I'm keen for her to try it. Where do you recommend buying it? I know there is such variation in content

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 16:45

@FredaFox
It depends what kind of CBD you are looking for.? What kind are you looking for? Liquid,bud,herbal

OP posts:
EmeraldShamrock · 23/02/2020 18:30

@FredaFox My uncle with Parkinson's uses the high strenght CBD. His son orders it in from lanzarote, I don't think it is legal it is easy to order. It has 80% CBD oil.
My Granny inlaw used THC oil for pain relief at the end with cancer which is real cannibas oil.
Afaik THC is better for pain relief, bone pain, whereas the CBD seems to be good for anxiety, CBD is basically weed oil without the stoner ingredient THC. The CBD vape oil tastes like weed.
Try some of the Spanish websites.

EmeraldShamrock · 23/02/2020 18:33

@FredaFox Obviously try the mild ones first. My uncle didn't find they help.

FredaFox · 23/02/2020 18:53

Thanks Emerald!
My mum has vascular Parkinsonism, she has walking difficulties as well as arthritis so I’m hoping to get done some pain relief and if her mobility can be helped in any way. I need to do some homework I think
