To find Joe Wicks suddenly annoying & smug!

I’ve always really liked him but since he had kids he’s become really annoying and slightly smug! His wean in 15 has particularly annoyed me for some reason as he’s releasing a book about weaning kids!

He’s currently in Tulum in Mexico and it’s been a constant stream of smug posts about his (admittedly) beautiful Wife & hotel etc. I’ve been to Tulum when travelling & saw the biggest mozzies I have ever seen & he’s there with a tiny baby too and small other child too.

I don’t know what it is but he’s quite sanctimonious all of a sudden about his perfect kids that never cry etc!!!

Aibu- I used to really like him but kids seem to have turned him into an annoying smug prat!!

Yeah I did think he comes across as a bit 'first person to ever reproduce' when they had the first baby, especially with the mansplainy 'weaning advice'. As if women haven't weaning their babies for centuries! And I have to be honest, I really don't see the point of going to Tulum with a newborn and a very young child.

Stunningly beautiful family though Smile

catannoyed · 22/02/2020 20:12

Any grown adult who repeatedly describes broccoli as "mini trees" in a cookbook for other grown adults needs a slap. I gave that book to charity as I found even his writing annoying.

tallah · 22/02/2020 20:16

Oh my god SAME!!! I follow his wean in 15 for food ideas but he's starting to think he knows everything about parenting and we should all do exactly as he says because he's fucking amazing. Ahhhhh. Gets on my nerves!

tallah · 22/02/2020 20:17

His kids are lush tho to be fair.

Fairylea · 22/02/2020 20:21

I like him Blush Grin

I am enjoying the Mexico stuff. I like to see nice places and luxury holiday stuff.

Yeah he reckons he’s got it sussed with the kids and it’s a bit smug if you like but isn’t everyone in some way? We all think we know best in one way or another!

I did laugh when he said about not letting his dd have a screen at dinner time which is all well and good and yep top marks etc but with my son with autism he would never eat if he didn’t have an iPad in one hand and a fork in the other (he’s got restrictive eating patterns and is under a dietitian). But Joe Wicks is a bit blinkered with stuff like that, because he hasn’t experienced it. It doesn’t make him a bed person, just a little naive if anything.

His heart is in the right place, and he has a lot of positivity. I like that, it’s nice to see happy people.

CalamityJune · 22/02/2020 20:23

I do find him quite performance parenty, yes. I noticed on the Mexico flight that the ipad came out, and i almost cheered at the sight of a screen but then he was at pains to stipulate it had been used for "30 minutes here and there" only on a ten hour flight. This was followed by footage of his daughter being encouraged to run up and down the aisle, which i'm sure the other passengers loved.

Vintagehearts · 22/02/2020 20:24

Joe Wicks? Wasn't he in Eastenders?

OpportunityKnocks · 22/02/2020 20:29

YABU. Nice guy, good food, good workouts.

Can't stand him. He was a smug twat before he had kids and now he's just worse.

I can't believe people buy his shite.

wishingitwasfriday · 22/02/2020 20:39

Amazing! A week in from the suicide of Caroline Flack and already the claws are out for someone else in the public eye. If you personally don't like the image portrayed of someone then unfollow them. Just because you find them annoying, does it really warrant a thread whereby people are encourage to slag him off?
His whole image/product is encouraging a healthy lifestyle, so of course he's going to try to raise his children in a similar way. Unfollow if you don't like it and then you won't need to see it.

switswoo81 · 22/02/2020 20:48

Totally agree @wishingitwasfriday obviously that was a short lesson. He might be a little smug, how that inspires such a level of hatred I don't understand. Unfollow him

I like him. His classroom videos are great for exercise for kids (and free) his kids are beautiful. I liked his recipe ideas for weaning and the hotel he is in in the moment looks amazing.
I'd be feckin smug too;

Juliehooligan · 22/02/2020 21:05

I feel the same way about Jamie Oliver, always going on about healthy eating, but looks like he needs to take his own advice!

Fantasiaa · 22/02/2020 21:07

Jealousy

Booksandwine80 · 22/02/2020 22:00

YANBU

Horrid, skinny little runt of a “man”.

Constantly shouting. Drives me nuts.

Has completely sold out IMO

MistyMinge2 · 22/02/2020 22:05

I don't find him smug, it's just his 'persona' surely. I do feel envious looking at his holiday pics, but then he's put the effort in and I think good luck to him. I think he just really loves his family and is proud of his wife and kids. If you find it offensive, just unfollow him. Simple.

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 22:11

Had to look up a photo to check which joe this was. I watched about 5 mins of his first cookery/fitness programme whenever that was some years ago. I couldn’t stand him and had to turn it off. Really had a strong dislike - thought he was a really unlikable smug self obsessed type. Haven’t come across him since. Not surprised by what some here think but tell you what - he’s also easy to avoid !

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 22:15

Someone upthread made a very good point about ‘Just a week on from Caroline Flack What are we doing slagging someone off’. I very rarely do but got a shock to see who joe wicks was as had forgotten all about him. Quite right. Apols for setting out my strong feelings quite so quickly.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/02/2020 22:23

I don’t follow him and am not interested in his life or whatever he is doing. I find his voice annoying and when I have seen him on TV, he comes across as the sort of person who thinks he has found the answer to everything in life.

Ignore him.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 22/02/2020 22:28

I think he's great

MovinOnUp · 22/02/2020 22:38

I think he's great also!
Switch off or unfollow if you don't.

Most people really don't like to see others do well and be happy do they?

ladybirdees · 22/02/2020 22:52

Wow, I can't believe the vitriol here. He seems like a nice guy and have seen him in the park with his family just getting on with parenting like everyone else. Clearly he has achieved a lot and that always draws scrutiny and jealousy. Wish we could just be proud of people who do well rather than knock them down. If you don't like him it's pretty easy not to follow him or buy his products/do his workouts.

PeppermintPasty · 22/02/2020 23:06

I ignore all the blah blah about his baby and his holidays and just do his workouts, which I find are effective. Try that, might work 🤷‍♀️

Aussiegirl123456 · 22/02/2020 23:46

I'm ambivalent about him, I don't have social media anymore to follow him. However, when he was just starting out he stole my instagram pics from my weight loss page and used them, saying that I was Claire from Bristol who had done his 'lean in 15' plan to receive the results I'd got in just 30 days. The reality was that I'd never heard of him and I'd got those results from starving myself and exercising obsessively.

When I contacted him via message he read it but ignored it. So I then commented on the picture of me he had posted and asked why he stole my pictures.....to get a really nasty message back and then got blocked by him.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 22/02/2020 23:53

I really like the guy and think he deserves to be happy and a bit smug given that he’s built himself up from very humble start in life. He does loads of free sessions in Richmond park that he obviously doesn’t have to do, he’s championed local businesses and I think it’s sweet how close and hands on he is with the kids.
