AIBU to ask my first question - about spas?

FirmlyRooted · 16/02/2020 21:31

Yes, yes, I know spas are not generally approved of, but it's happening. And I'm quite looking forward to drifting about in a dressing gown with no kids or husband constantly asking where the car keys, the ketchup or the stick from the park two weeks ago are. Not to mention no work!

I have promised my 2 best friends who live abroad that I will find and book a spa for a weekend within easy reach of Heathrow or Stansted in early May, and I'm totally lost. Does anyone have a recommendations?
Must be a spa hotel, must serve alcohol and be conducive to wafting about in a dressing gown for two days straight. And there's 3 of us so not sure if that means one or two rooms, getting a headache already!

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Or should I just forget about it and book a hotel in Lisbon?

Yes, YABU because this is not chat.

PleaseStopCallingMe · 16/02/2020 21:40

Google Search for "Spas near Heathrow"

Check out the websites for info re: facilities and most will have trip advisor or Google Reviews that you can check

BritInUS1 · 16/02/2020 21:45

Try Nirvana Spa near Reading

BritInUS1 · 16/02/2020 21:46

It’s not a hotel though but is a lovely spa

bellsbuss · 16/02/2020 21:46

Penny hill Park is amazing and not far from Heathrow.

CherryPavlova · 16/02/2020 21:49

Luton Hoo

doadeer · 16/02/2020 21:56

Maybe try some of the spa hotels in Richmond or syon house -- it depends how much you want to spend?

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2020 21:58

YABU - this is obviously just a stealth boast.

Wandastartup · 16/02/2020 21:59

Ragdale Hall Leicestershire have triple rooms( 2 hours to Stanstead..)

CointreauVersial · 16/02/2020 22:00

I love Champneys, and they often have offers on.

itsme7 · 16/02/2020 22:01

I haven't been yet but Sopwell House in St Albans has recently been redone and looks lovely. Hoping for a special offer to go!

FirmlyRooted · 16/02/2020 22:07

Thank you for the recommendations, genuinely appreciate it. Looks like I might need a second mortgage for some of these!

I'm not sure how it's a stealth boast but am feeling quite cheered up by the thought that something in my very unglamorous, out of the house 12 hours a day and constantly dropping the ball life seems like a boast!

Google is a minefield and there is no harm in asking the hive, even if there's the occasional sting. Many thanks to those who suggested places.

Agree OP hardly a stealth boast. Agree with PP on Nirvana - though not hotel. Hear good things about Penny Hill Park too

heartsonacake · 16/02/2020 22:16

I agree, OP. But AIBU is the wrong forum for it. Questions like these are for chat.

RedPandaFluff · 16/02/2020 22:16

Have a look at spabreaks.com, @FirmlyRooted - I've had some good deals from there.

Darkstar4855 · 16/02/2020 22:17

YABU to post this in AIBU, yes.

MotherofTerriers · 16/02/2020 22:18

Fly to Edinburgh instead and go to stobo or one spa at the sheraton

thenightsky · 16/02/2020 22:19

Another vote for Ragdale. Its worth the drive north for you, honest. Fucking dog's bollux. I'd live there if I could.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/02/2020 22:21

Penny Hill Park would be my first choice! Or Champneys.

doadeer · 16/02/2020 22:50

What is your budget?

Disquieted1 · 16/02/2020 22:55

Remind your friends from abroad that it is customary in this country to pay for the hostess.
Then get stuck into the lobster and champagne.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 16/02/2020 23:05

Have a look on Groupon or spabreaks.com

I love a spa break but don't generally admit it on here for fear of the Charlie tongues but enjoy op, can't beat a relaxing weekend away from reality Smile

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 16/02/2020 23:07

I like the MacDonald Berystede at Ascot, about 20 mins drive from Heathrow. It's quite big and bustling but good food, nice indoor-outdoor hot tub and a swimming pool as well as the spa treatments and sauna. I'm told the Runnymede on Thames is good too, haven't tried it though.

Batqueen · 16/02/2020 23:09

Treatwell usually has good deals

LouisaJenny · 16/02/2020 23:12

Champneys are lovely, the Tring one is very nice.

They don’t have a bar though and only allow limited alcohol with dinner (I think).
