I'm sure there's a famous childrens character who eats jam sandwiches but google is not helping. It's driving me mad. Can anyone help?

DH says I'm thinking Paddington with his marmalade sandwiches but I'm sure there was someone who always had jam?

With jam sandwiches in children's fiction makes me think of The Giant Jam Sandwich.

Can't think of a character who ate one.

jiskoot · 12/02/2020 13:42

Is it paddington bear?

EngagedAgain · 12/02/2020 13:58

I love not sandwiches, but jam on nice fresh white bread. Sorry not the point, I don't know who your asking about.

Squigean · 12/02/2020 14:03

Bread and Jam for Frances by Russel Hoban is a possibility.

I've not heard of it, but looks to be a series?

Aknifewith16blades · 12/02/2020 14:03

'Bread and Jam for Frances"?

SparkleClub · 12/02/2020 14:04

Was it Rupert the Bear?

Cyberworrier · 12/02/2020 14:05

Oor

SparkleClub · 12/02/2020 14:06

Probably a long shot..but spot the dog stories had a picnic one where spot had jam sandwiches during a picnic. Could that be it? I'm talking over 20 years ago though.

TheFastandTheCurious · 12/02/2020 14:06

Not Paddington, he ate marmalade sandwiches

Cyberworrier · 12/02/2020 14:07

Oor Wullie ate jeely pieces that meant to say!

Craftycorvid · 12/02/2020 14:07

Was about to answer ‘me - I am partial to a jam sandwich every now and then.’ But I’m not a fictional bear.....

Nonnymum · 12/02/2020 14:08

Didn't Just Willam like jam sandwiches? Paddington loved marmalade sandwiches - which I think sound disgusting!

wingardium8 · 12/02/2020 14:10

Kipper the dog has jam sandwiches on a picnic...

The faraway kids?

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/02/2020 14:14

Long shot but in The Railway Children they were allowed to have jam or butter but not both.
Doesn't quite fit but it's a vague reference.

notsodimwit · 12/02/2020 14:44

I eat jam sandwiches Grin my favourite sarnie!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 12/02/2020 14:46

Anyone from Enid Blighton I'm sure! With lashings and lashings of ginger beer! 🍺

Qwerty543 · 12/02/2020 14:49

I've occasionally taken jam sandwiches to work for lunch. I love them. Or just some bread and jam of an evening.

Squigean · 12/02/2020 18:54

Pretty sure Enid Blyton children ate sardines, potted meats or salmon on the go. Along with cakes and biscuits.

They'd have high teas which mostly considered of giant hams, pies , cheese, freshly baked bread with just churned butter.

The jam was with warm scones and fresh cream.

I used to always want a high tea as a child!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/02/2020 18:56

Not fictional, but the Queen likes jam sandwiches - they are cut into circles and called jam pennies.

Dahlietta · 12/02/2020 19:03

I tried to Google children character jam sandwiches and all I got was stuff about the giant jam sandwich and a link to this thread.
My kids love them, but that's not the answer.

ShinyMe · 12/02/2020 19:15

I'll tell you what's even better than a jam sandwich. A jam sandwich soaked in beaten egg and then fried in butter, that's what.

TerrifiedandWorried · 12/02/2020 19:18

Bread and jam for Francis is a brilliant book.
