To be fed up with this hunger?

Every day around this time. Blood sugar plummets and I’m so hungry I shake like a leaf. Comes out of nowhere. I was just getting ready to go to the gym and I didn’t want to eat just now.

Anyone else get this?

Yes. Shaking and faint. It's gone completely on a low carb diet. I feel 100% better. I'm no longer controlled by my blood sugar level.

managedmis · 08/02/2020 17:23

What do you actually eat?

HopeClearwater · 08/02/2020 17:24

I used to get this, though at a different time of day. Change your diet. Look up glycaemic index.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/02/2020 17:27

Low carb means I rarely if ever feel hungry. It's great.

squizzles · 08/02/2020 17:28

Eat healthier is all I can suggest.

userabcname · 08/02/2020 17:30

Interestingly, it's very common to experience a serotonin dip in the afternoon, which can make you crave carbs and sugar. You sound genuinely hungry though so I'd look at what you have for lunch and try to ensure there's a lot of protein and slow-release carbs so you don't get the "sugar dump" that can leave you suddenly hungry and shaky.

CameronG · 08/02/2020 17:30

I’ve been trying to eat healthily and exercise. Not diet as such. I had avocado on seeded toast for lunch around one and have felt full all day then at the back of five I’m suddenly absolutely ravenous.

But this is every day. I could have a wrap and some popchips for my lunch at work and I’m shaking with hunger by 5pm

4 o'clock banana. Changed my life.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 08/02/2020 17:32

But it's heading towards dinner time. When's the last time you ate? I'm starving by 5.30 when I get home and I always have my dinner around 6. I don't think I could go to the gym without having eaten after work first.

Pangur2 · 08/02/2020 17:33

I went keto and now I don't get this any more. I feel hungry in my stomach but I don't get the shakes.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 08/02/2020 17:34

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that. Have an early dinner and see if that sorts you out!

CameronG · 08/02/2020 17:34

The shakes at the gym it just doesn’t work I can barely do five mins when I feel like that. It’s just so annoying

TooleyVanDooley · 08/02/2020 17:35

I had to stop eating white bread at lunchtime because of this.

CameronG · 08/02/2020 17:35

I can cope with hunger it’s the complete bottoming out of my blood sugar I can’t handle it drives me bonkers

Shinycat · 08/02/2020 17:35

@CameronG Umm, eat something then??? (And go to the gym an hour later.)

CameronG · 08/02/2020 17:38

Shuts at eight on a Saturday or I would go after seven (that’s when I usually during the week)

SophieSong · 08/02/2020 17:40

You're getting a carb crash from the bread you're eating at lunchtime. Affects some people quite badly.

cheeseomelette · 08/02/2020 17:52

I used to get this. I switched to eating Bol soups at lunch (full of fibre and protein) rather than a sandwich and it's really helped.

I also kicked sugar as a habit. I have a single chocolate with a coffee in the evening after a work out. Literally no other sugar other than what's naturally in fruit or veg. That's made a huge difference. I thought I was pre diabetic at one point. A few weeks on and I don't even miss it.

Mummyshark2018 · 08/02/2020 17:55

A banana an hour or two before gym or it could be your sodium levels are low. Oxo cube (chicken or veg) with a dash of milk always helps me!

FrivolousPancake · 08/02/2020 18:00

Low carb stop this for me totally

handbagsatdawn33 · 08/02/2020 18:18

I recommend protein - either with lunch or as a snack later.
Piece of cheese, boiled egg, cooked meat, etc

bridgetreilly · 08/02/2020 18:22

You need to start listening to your body. If this happens regularly it's because your eating habits aren't matching your body's needs. Either cut out the lunchtime carbs, plan for an afternoon snack, or have dinner earlier.

Bouncebacker · 08/02/2020 19:00

Quit carbs and sugar. I follow a keto (ish) diet and I haven’t had this in 10 months, and I’ve lost three stone.

Bouncebacker · 08/02/2020 19:03

Cut out the pop chips and the wrap for lunch, and replace with Rocket, avocado, chicken, olives and Parmesan salad with an olive oil dressing. I would have a handful of nuts 30 mins ish before the gym. And plenty of water.
