My cats won't leave me alone

AutumnFever00 · 03/02/2020 12:58

I love my cats dearly. They're three girls, one black, one white, one tabby. They're all very affectionate with me. But they get so jealous of each other. They won't look at me for ages if I pick one of them up and cuddle her. They growl at each other and they've got nothing to complain about.

They wait until I've put the kids to bed and then, just as I'm sitting down they all come into the room and sit either on me or around my head (i.e. behind me on the sofa cushion.) I can't move. They grumble if I close doors. If I go over the road to buy a pint of milk or some bread they wait for me out the front and call loudly until they see me returning. It's actually embarrassing as we live near the train station, so all the commuters hear them wailing and crying in the morning. I see grown men in suits looking at them with surprise. The kids love them but OMG they're high maintenance. Whichever room I go into, they're circling me, purring, or just waiting for me to sit down. The tabby girl is quite fat, and also sits in front of my television in the evening. I have to watch the picture with her in the middle of it.

AIBU to expect a bit more freedom from my cats? I work hard with the kids, but I swear the cats think they should come first.

YABU. Haven't you learned by now that your entire purpose in life is to bow to the commands of your feline superiors? Grin

Watching with interest for any suggestions as my little diva runs me ragged too. You have my heartfelt sympathy, OP!

AutumnFever00 · 03/02/2020 13:03

CrispsForTea - yes I think you might be right. They also think I'm being unreasonable for complaining about it. They're more demanding than my kids

YANBU. I have two, and if I dare stroke one the other glares at me. They follow me everywhere even into the toilet..... one cat even tried to follow me to the school last week. 🤦🏻‍♀️ If I go out in the car they sit crying at my front window till I get back. They’re worse than kids. 😂

Leosnewmummy · 03/02/2020 13:08

Same here, I have 2 male cats and I can't even go to the loo, they are outside digging at the door, when I'm in bed one of them jumps up to the handle and opens the door. They are worse than my kids were. Grin

thecatsthecats · 03/02/2020 13:10

I have two.

Both are affectionate, but one is incredibly clingy. He is ONLY happy if sat on you, as inconveniently as possible. He's actually started hugging and kissing me - paws either side of neck, and rubbing his mouth against mine (never had a cat do this before). If you move him off ten times he'll climb back on with increasing desperation. We actually have to shut him in the bedroom sometimes.

They both go nuts if I come in the house and just feed them, without sitting down to listen about their day and cuddle them.

It sounds daft, but some days it is genuinely stressful!

scaryteacher · 03/02/2020 13:12

Get over it OP, or rehome the cats!! Every time I sit on my bed or the sofa, if my long haired boy is there he will scale me until he is comfortable. I woke up this morning to find him curled into my spot on the bed, and I had somehow been moved to a colder bit. They rule the house.

furrybadger · 03/02/2020 13:14

my two are exactly the same however one is more clingy, he comes with me everywhere in the house, he even comes into the shower with me and gets into it getting soaking wet in the process, he cuddles like a child its adorable i love it, the other one only cuddles in bed if your under the duvet, he actually gets under the duvet and spoons like a human Grin

Meruem · 03/02/2020 13:16

Ah cat love Wink I have two, only had them for 3 months so far but they are almost permanently glued to either me or DD. I WFH so I think they are used to me being here for them 24/7. If they need attention they will do this tiny little meow that sounds so desperate and sad! I have to immediately stop whatever I'm doing and show them some love Grin They definitely own me, rather than me owning them!

Chesntoots · 03/02/2020 13:19

I had a cat that used to spoon me - head on my shoulder, one "arm" around my top half and the one leg around my waist. Best cuddles I've ever had!

At the moment I am off work after having major abdominal surgery and fat cat comes and snuggles up to my tummy when I am in bed. It's quite nice and not only keeps me warm but supports it so it doesn't hurt as much.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/02/2020 13:19

My sister has girl-cats and they do my head in! My boy cat brings home the odd squirrel but apart from that he’s pretty chilled.
The girls constantly mew a horrid high-pitched mew, wont let you near them to stroke them, look at you like they want to murder you in your sleep and pee everywhere.

They’re so annoying!

stophuggingme · 03/02/2020 13:20

My cats have only ever been like this with me to this extent when I was pregnant Grin

YesItsMeIDontCare · 03/02/2020 13:25

I was all set for you not being unreasonable, until

I work hard with the kids, but I swear the cats think they should come first.

The cats know they should come first and your children will have to learn to live with it 😁.

whiskersonkittenss · 03/02/2020 13:36

Mine are the same. The male cat doesn't care for affection unless he's upstairs in bed, but the girls, omg once they start that's a fuss, and loud meowing for as long as they decide.

CSIblonde · 03/02/2020 13:37

Aww. Mine runs towards me meowing at the top of her lungs, when she sees me coming back home. My neighbours think it's sweet. She also demands butt scratches constantly & will claw the sofa if you ignore her. She's not a lap cat tho, 10mins, then she wants 'her' chair & bkankie. The 'tiny trumpet' snores are strangely comforting when I'm drifting off to sleep tho, bless her.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/02/2020 13:43

My little ones are the same. If i sit down they are on me purring loudly

My older cat cba with the little ones or me so spends her time sleeping in the dog bed with the dog

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 03/02/2020 13:45

Lucky you. One of my cats hates me and acts like I beat the crap out of her when no one is watching (I don't) The other tolerates me but acts like he's homeless and starving to anyone else to the extent I've had to add our house number to his collar tag so that when someone calls, again, to say they've found my lost and starving cat, I can say 'where are you? Oh yes, from the same tag you got my number from you can see you are two houses away from his actual house where he last ate a large bowl of food 30 minutes ago'

katkit · 03/02/2020 13:48

oh god. This has made me laugh so much. Sorry.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/02/2020 13:49

I woke up this morning to find him curled into my spot on the bed, and I had somehow been moved to a colder bit

But at least you're already in the bed Wink Come 11-ish mine arrange themselves top right/bottom left on the duvet, meaning I have an uncomfortable half hour arranging myself around them before I can sleep too. (I used to chuck them off, but paid for it by being sat on half the night)

On the whole, life's easier since I just accepted that they're in charge ...

Hobbesmanc · 03/02/2020 13:53

I've three and they seriously rule my life. One wants to go out early every day- at 5.30 on the dot and wowls and bats my head if I don't. When I once tried to lock him on the landing he threw himself against the door for hours. The youngest is very clingy and follows me like a shadow, god love them

InOtterNews · 03/02/2020 13:54

My 3 boys are exactly the same. The minute I get home from work I am not left alone. Thankfully, they are not really lap cats, but like to sit near me (touching) me.

Two of them will meet and greet me at the top of the road and escort me to the door - whilst trying to trip me up with affection. When I get into bed one of them (the heaviest) likes to sit on me and knead me for a good half an hour (or until I can't take it anymore) and dribble. Another one needs to lie next to me (touching), the third likes to sit near my head, purring excessively loudly) whilst staring at me.

If I wake up in the middle of the night I may have lost two of them - but the third one will be sat there just staring at me likes he's plotting

Mine likes her people and she gets lots of attention so doesn't control us through affection as she gets all of it anyway. But she does like to herd us. She'll mew and mew and make you follow her. Sometimes she wants more food but often she just wants us in a certain place. She herded me the other day from upstairs, down to the living room and, once she'd got me there, she left!

DontCallMeShitley · 03/02/2020 14:33

I had a little velcro cat, always on my lap when I sat down, in front of me when I was trying to move furniture, in the window waiting for me to come home, slept on top of me at night.

Would give anything to have her back, she had cancer.

flumposie · 03/02/2020 14:42

Enjoy it while you can. I lost my 15 year old cat in July and I would give anything to have him with me still.
