My cats won't leave me alone

I love my cats dearly. They're three girls, one black, one white, one tabby. They're all very affectionate with me. But they get so jealous of each other. They won't look at me for ages if I pick one of them up and cuddle her. They growl at each other and they've got nothing to complain about.

They wait until I've put the kids to bed and then, just as I'm sitting down they all come into the room and sit either on me or around my head (i.e. behind me on the sofa cushion.) I can't move. They grumble if I close doors. If I go over the road to buy a pint of milk or some bread they wait for me out the front and call loudly until they see me returning. It's actually embarrassing as we live near the train station, so all the commuters hear them wailing and crying in the morning. I see grown men in suits looking at them with surprise. The kids love them but OMG they're high maintenance. Whichever room I go into, they're circling me, purring, or just waiting for me to sit down. The tabby girl is quite fat, and also sits in front of my television in the evening. I have to watch the picture with her in the middle of it.

AIBU to expect a bit more freedom from my cats? I work hard with the kids, but I swear the cats think they should come first.

FWIW I've just shared this thread with a pal who came for a cuppa, and she made what seems an unarguable point: they don't do anything besides just "being a cat!!"

Okay so there's an occasional bit of rodent control if they can be bothered, but they can't be taken for walks, don't provide any effective guarding duties and can't really be trained to do anything useful at all ... instead it's us who are trained, us who provide the services demanded and us who go right on treating them as gods throughout

We really must be quite mad Grin

Can we have a picture please?

Just feed them they'll soon fuck off.

thecatsthecats · 03/02/2020 16:01

If only that were true!

I do love my boys, and they're so sweet-natured, but especially one is very needy.

If we do manage to sneak off in the house, he'll howl pathetically until he finds us. And he is LOUD.

olivesnutsandcheese · 03/02/2020 17:15

Clearly YABU for not including a photo of them

I've two cats, the female is independent and come to me occasionally just for few minutes, the male follow me around the home all the time, he is so affectionate to the point of becoming very annoying!

scaryteacher · 03/02/2020 18:37

Puzzled I have to frequently rearrange myself at night to accommodate the pair of them, and when they and dh are on the sofa, I sit on the floor rather than disturb any of them.

We live in a three storey house and the (3) cats food has always been in the basement. Two of them have decided they can't be arsed to go all the way downstairs to eat so gradually their feeding spot has moved to the landing and my bedroom.

One of them used to bring me a packet of her food then miaww at me loudly in the middle of the night until I fed her, she refuses to eat out of a common cat bowl.

DieSchottin93 · 04/02/2020 00:03

I'll swap Grin we have two, a ginger tom and a little fluffy black female, they are only interested in sleeping and mooching for food. Neither of them are cuddly, our tom cat will sometimes sit on my dad's lap but that's it. They only really show any interest in us when they want food 😂😂

This thread has really made me laugh. It’s also made me remember all the crazy things about cats I’ve owned. Had one once who used to lie wrapped around my head every night purring so loudly I couldn’t get to sleep. No way of pushing him away. He started to dribble Into my prône ear at one point and I had to wear wax earplugs to stop the worst of it. God I loved him, the little terror.

We have a cat that silently judges everyone while staring at them with disdain, has trained her chosen human (not me) to feed her in the middle of the night if she so chooses (she will bat her chosen one in the face until this happens), if the chosen one tries to refuse at entry to the bedroom the wailing will commence, the cat will wail for a long as it takes the chosen one to give in.

Cats hold all the power, you are there to serve and satisfy any whim they may have, I suspect anyone who tries to defy them is dragged kicking and screaming to the underworld by the cat gods.
