Who are you really?

I'm 100% convinced that I should have been born in France, learned piano, had a horse and obviously spoken French.

Who do you feel you are? Or am I the only one who feels they were born in the wrong country? And era.

Seriously though, it's like a memory in some things. I don't have to learn French - it just reminds me of words I know? Same with piano. And France, I feel at home there.

I'm also a natural with horses but was not allowed to work with them by my parents.

I should have been born and lived in the mountains. In the fresh air, by streams and valleys and peaks.

When I die, I want to be scattered up on a mountain. I want to feel the fresh air and feel free up there.

JustonTime · 30/01/2020 23:57

I want my ashes to be scattered in the sea! That's another thing - I absolutely love being on a boat/cruiser/ship.

That's where you were before you came here....

That is if you believe in that sort of thingSmile

Nothing2doooooo · 31/01/2020 00:04
  • who you were....not where.
Monty27 · 31/01/2020 00:07

I'm a song writer. I can also perform on stage playing a piano and I can sing.
Sigh Blush

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 31/01/2020 00:17

I should have been a young woman during the 1920s and 1930s. That interwar period that managed to contain both the certainties, rituals, gravitas and craftsmanship of the victorian era, and the liberation, verve and technological and artistic revolution of the art deco era.

I’m not even imagining the high society bit of it, the Poirot/ House of Eliot/ Downton Abbey, i just feel like that was my time even in a rural backwater. Modern life is so disappointing somehow.

TwitcherOfCurtains · 31/01/2020 00:29

I'm a future person. Should've been born in the year 2364 where holodecks, food replicators and transport beams exist.

pallisers · 31/01/2020 01:13

That's funny. I gave a speech at a friend's wedding in New York along the lines of "he should have been born as a Jewish boy in New York but instead was born in Ireland - somewhere in brooklyn there is a jewish boy called Moshe who wonders why he likes pubs and disappoints his parents" My friend definitely should have been born in NYC.

My own daughter would have thrived in the 19th century if she had a small income, enough to keep her in the gentry. She would be perfect at looking beautiful, making lovely converation, makiing people feel at ease, reading, sewing, making the house run, etc. She found school hard and I often thought how happy she would have been born then. now she is thriving in university, I think it less :)

I should’ve been born in America, c.1970 so I could’ve spent my teens wearing double denim, listening to 80s music and watching 80s movies as they came out. I feel such a weird sense of nostalgia for that era, even though I wasn’t born. I believe the feeling we’re all experiencing is known as ‘anemoia’ Smile

UrbanJellyfish · 31/01/2020 01:22

I don't think you're alone. There seem to be an ever increasing number of people who think they were born in entirely the wrong body.

Apirateslifeforme · 31/01/2020 01:33

I've always felt like I might've been a heroin addict in a previous life, Detroit seems like home to me for some reason.
I've an affinity with both of these things, like my heart yearns for both.

Btw- in real life, I'm a very boring, straight laced type of person. Never touched drugs and barely drink.
As a very young child I used to talk about feeling misplaced and if I was in America I would be happy. Not America like on the TV. I just longed to be "home"
We go to the states 1-2times a year, I've never told DH about me being a weirdo child feeling like the states were home.
He said to me a few months ago, let's move there, you always seem much more comfortable in yourself there, it feels like you're supposed to be there. Really freaked me out.

managedmis · 31/01/2020 01:44

I should have been a Viking

JustonTime · 31/01/2020 01:52

oh I'd love to have been a Viking! On the sea, randomly invading places for the hell of it lol. Not giving a shit. I'd have been a fierce warrior I think.

I don’t know I always end up coming to the conclusion that I am just a chameleon. I mean I could live in a big city with a sparse clean apartment and be all about my career. Or I could just as easily live in the middle of the countryside with a bunch of kids and spend my days making yummy jams. I don’t feel I belong anywhere really, so I’ve done a bit of both Grin

JustonTime · 31/01/2020 01:57

Lilly - nope. I think you were a cat in a former life. A fat contented cat.

I feel like I'm in the right place. I have disabilities and can't work. Our social saftey nets have huge holes in and could be a ton better, but some places in the world they are a lot worse. I'd be dead by now if I was born in the US for example.

Age wise, I'm not sure. My family and friends often say I'm a cross between a 14 year old boy and his grandmother. I love cross stitching, crochet and everything about children, but I also love video games, metal music and any technology gadgets. I tend to fit in with any age range really and my partner is 30 years older than me.

I feel a bit generic really, I can blend in anywhere but never truly fit.

AutumnRose1 · 31/01/2020 02:07

I think I’d have done well to be born ten years earlier

Here’s a song some of you might like

ohtheholidays · 31/01/2020 02:13

My Dearest Dad used to say that I was born to late,he always said I should have been born sooner,he used to say I was his and my Mum's little hippy love child Grin

I do believe that I should have travelled and that I should have travelled alot that and had more sex with more gorgeous men.

I had the chance of the sex and the travel but I never took up the offers,I don't know why but I do have a lovely DH and 5DC and a gorgeous little Grandson and I'm always surrounded by them and our Dogs and I wouldn't give any of them up but I do think if I came back again and was offered the travel and sex again I'd take it Smile

JustonTime · 31/01/2020 02:26

Good song Autumn.
I sort of believe in reincarnation. You know the way some people notice that something is 'second nature' to them. A lot of people said that my dd was 'out before' i.e. that that this was her second life. She certainly possesses a wisdom beyond her age perhaps. But it's something about how she looked at you as a baby. Rarely cried, but she'd stare right into your eyes.
Now, I'd be happy if she'd give me a parting glance, but as a baby, she was a very wise little baby.

I think I’d have enjoyed the London club scene of the 80s. I got the 90s and early 00s but could have enjoyed the 80s too.

AutumnRose1 · 31/01/2020 02:27

Oh and don’t get me started on how much my flat would cost if I’d been born ten years earlier!

AcrossthePond55 · 31/01/2020 02:37

I should have been born in Britain to a wealthy family and studied piano and voice at the Royal Academy. I would then have gone on to become a famous Coloratura Soprano.

I sing soprano, but I am NOT a Coloratura!

AutumnRose1 · 31/01/2020 02:52

I would definitely have been born to a wealthy family with a town house and country house!

MonsterRehab23 · 31/01/2020 03:00

Definitely born into a wealthy family- possibly aristocracy.
