People keep breaking my toilet seats

I am having a final straw moment AngryBlush

Is this just how toilet seats are? Or is everyone else inconsiderate?

My DC are small built but for some reason in every house we have ever lived in and every toilet they have somehow managed to break or skew the fixings of toilet seats. I have had to repair more toilet seats in my life than surely is normal

I have 2 toilets now that have fixings that you screw into the bowl and then you place the sweat on to 2 pegs. Whenever I go into the toilet and go to sit down, the toilet seat is loose. My mum does this to my toilet and my DC.

It's the WAY people sit down on them. Some people sort of go on sideways...with all the pressure on one bum cheek. This pushes the seat to one side and snaps it

Ah, now I’m convinced it’s people balancing to wipe their arse whilst sitting.

We have one toilet seat that keeps breaking. The others in the house are totally fine so I don’t think it is us being too heavy or twisty. I think there must be something about the fixings or position. It’s bloody annoying though.

Can we start a campaign for people to use toilet seats nicely? No swivelling? No heavy plonking?

My loo was fitted 25 years ago - have never had to tighten up the seat!
(& just checked, it's not loose)

EndoplasmicReticulum · 19/01/2020 16:55

Modern toilet seats are useless and do not last. The old avocado loos - no problem.

Also - we went through loads when children were small as they are boy-children and it seems that pee wears through the toilet seat fittings really quickly.

OP - I can't see if you mention if yours are boy-children but if you do have any of those try training them not to pee all over the seat (good luck with that!)

Gogolego · 19/01/2020 17:02

This keep being a thing when I was at halls in uni. I go through 2 ooo seats and I wasn't sitting on it abnormally or down like an elephant. And Other people kept break their seats too

So I asked the maintenance guy who was like yeah the loo seats and fittings are cheap. And lots of other people are experiencing the same. Total false economy

My DC are nearly adult and female 😂

DD1 got home from work I showed her new toilet seat and said why do you keep making them come loose then not telling me? She admitted being a one bum cheek swiveller

In terms of feng shui, where is your toilet roll in relation to sitting on the seat. My friends toilet roll holder is sort of behind your head in their bathroom so unless you remember to arm yourself before you sit down you can't help wriggling.

Menora · 19/01/2020 17:14

In terms of feng shui it is on the right at waist height but it is on the same wall as the toilet so there is some swivelling going on - I have bought a freestanding loo roll holder from amazon
The back of the toilet is a tiled wall

I will do a photo

I’ve bought this and I will put it on the other side

I did not fix one to the other wall as I have experience of heavy handed DC yanking on the holders and pulling them off the wall Angry so I got a suction one

I thought it was just our house. As in literally this house, since shoogly toilet seats haven't been a feature in any other house we've lived in. My dodgy spine can't cope with having my arse go unexpectedly off-balance, so I've taken to sitting on the bare porcelain in self defence. I know!

memberofseven · 19/01/2020 17:55

I used to be a lot heavier than I am (4 stone). Our toilet seat was forever coming loose. It doesn't anymore. Your post made me realise!

Areyoufree · 19/01/2020 22:17

I think it happens when the toilet is next to the wall. In our last house, the seat got broken all the time. It’s never happened in our new house - not once in 5 years. The only different thing is the bathroom layout.
