Boots test-false positive?

BumbleBee15 · 11/01/2020 20:54

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has experienced false positives with boots own brand tests? I got a very faint line this afternoon and this evening did a CB digital and got “not pregnant”. My heart is sore but not sure if it’s worth reading too much into this yet. I’m on CD22 of 26

You cant get a false positive. There needs to be HGC present to turn the test pink and that only occurs when you are pregnant. You can get evsp lines though. I line that is colourless but is an evap line. I think that is an evap line. But at 22 days of a 26 day cycle it is really early to be testing. Good luck!

Watermelontea · 11/01/2020 21:47

YABU for wasting a test by testing in the afternoon when you’re not due AF yet, use your first morning wee and get a a first response test. Could possibly be an evap line as it is very faint.
Also, the conception boards are probably a better place to post this.

SimonTheFox · 11/01/2020 21:49

I also think that looks like a v faint positive. Try again in 3 days

RoseGoldEagle · 11/01/2020 22:13

I think first response detects 6(whatever the unit is) hcg, whereas they digital clearblues can detect once hcg gets to 25, so they’re not as sensitive. Not sure about Sainsbury’s- but it could be that it’s detected a low level but the digital isn’t able to pick that up yet. Remember reading that ages ago and it rang true for me- had positive on first response but clearblue digital negative. (and was pregnant). I can see a faint line on that test. Hope you get a stronger positive in the next few days.

Mollychristmas · 11/01/2020 22:22

I found that if the line has no colour then it’s an evap line.
I have gotten a lot of different tests with lines and each one has been an evap.

frankincenseandmur · 11/01/2020 22:24

It looks like an early positive to me

BumbleBee15 · 11/01/2020 22:51

Thanks to those with helpful insights, I wasn’t in fact asking opinions of the attached test I was asking if others had experience with Boots tests. I have validated the CB tests are less likely to show early. I know I am testing way too early, all the symptoms in the world (in my head) and trying not to be a POAS addict! Also never posted on this board before so clearly came to the wrong place. All the best to all of you x

I definitely see colour on that, evap lines are usually colourless.

The first response tests are the best for early testing, btw.

Digital tests don't come up positive until later, they're less sensitive.

I'd be cautiously optimistic with this and test again with a first response/FRER using the first wee of the morning.

Winterwoollies · 11/01/2020 23:31

This is slightly off-topic, OP I really hope you get whatever result you want. ❤️

However, I can almost never see lines on these pictures. Those saying they see a line, what are you seeing that I’m not seeing? Or are people being cruel and pretending they see it?

BumbleBee15 · 11/01/2020 23:47

Thank you for your kind words. What people noticed is much easier to see in person but is very faint! It’s the highlighted “second” line

I can see that too.

Good luck OP.

Piss on one with fresh morning wee and let us know how it goes.

Cryingoverspilttea · 12/01/2020 00:02

Boots test is positive. CBD need a much higher hcg level to get a 'pregnant' result. Test again in 4 days op.

Vilanelle · 12/01/2020 01:10

I actually don't think that line is faint. I had a v v v faint positive on clear blue but negative on others. I tested the next few days and was positive

Darkstar4855 · 12/01/2020 01:44

The Conception board would be a better place to ask this.

pinacollama · 12/01/2020 01:47

I see the second line, but I’ve had faint lines like that on several occasions and not been pregnant. I hope you get the answer you’re hoping for.

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/01/2020 09:02

The second photo is much clearer than the first, for some reason. In the first it looks cloudless and almost as if you can see where the line should be. Good luck! Try and wait a couple of days.

Thehop · 12/01/2020 09:09

Could be too early for a digital. They took ages to pick up for me.

Try a frer in the morning

Good luck

Whatsername177 · 12/01/2020 09:13

There is no such thing as a false positive. You cant have a positive result and not have conceived. When you test before your period and get a faint line, followed by your period, you've experienced a chemical pregnancy. This can be a real head fuck, which is why testing early is not advised. I admit I tested early though - with dd, I had super faint lines that got darker followed by a baby. With my second pg I had a very faint line that got darker followed by a mc at 13 weeks. I then had two chemical pg. One I tested early on, one I waited until the day I thought my period was due, but my cycles were a mess from the mc so, in reality it could have been early. Both times my period appeared 24-48 hours later. The 'yes I'm pregnant', followed by my period was agony and even worse than the months of negative tests when ttc. With dd2, I waited until I'd missed my period. My period was due on my birthday and I didn't want to spend my birthday miserable because of a lack of a line on a pissy stick. When I did test, I got a strong positive line that couldn't be mistaken. Ttc is probably the hardest emotional experience of my life. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone, it would be to not test early. Because, the sad fact is, even if you get that line, 1 in 4 of us will mc. A line on a test does not mean all will be well and if you test early, you risk knowing about a chemical pregnancy too. Test after your period is due, don't put yourself through the mental agony of looking at squinters and wondering because it can grind you down.

ArchieStar · 12/01/2020 09:33

Good luck OP, try not to drive yourself crazy with the waiting. Keep distracted until the right time to POAS.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 12/01/2020 09:49

Yes there is. There are dodgy tests that can give you a positive when you’re not pregnant.

soccerbabe · 12/01/2020 09:54

this was over a decade ago, but with my dc, a boots test showed up as strongly positive, and the test the gp used the next day showed up as faintly positive, so the IME the boots own brand test was very effective.

Lolalovesmarmite · 12/01/2020 10:08

I’m sorry but that is not a ‘false positive’. It’s a negative pregnancy test. Wait until AF is due and then test. You’re opening yourself up to stress and heartbreak testing this early and convincing yourself you’ve seen something.

BlueEyedGreeness · 12/01/2020 10:10

Sorry but I can't see a line on that picture either.
Are you testing too early?
I bought an early detection test for my dd and did it 2 days early (it said I could use it 4 days early) and it came back negative. I only got a positive test on the day after my period was due.

Whatsername177 · 12/01/2020 10:25

This website explains what a 'false positive' really is. There needs to be HGC in your pee to react with the test and turn the line pink. There are some drugs that mimic HGC and will turn a test pink. However, most of the time when a squinted of a line is causing a woman to feel unsure either way, it is because she is pregnant but it is too early for HGC to be detectable, or she is not pregnant and one of the issues within the link applies (although I'd count an ectopic pregnancy as pregnant still). A test in date, taken at the right time is 99.9% accurate. The 0.1% it is inaccurate is when it gives a false negative. Cant do clicky links, sorry.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/01/2020 10:39

I had a line fainter than that on one of my tests. He's 11 now.

It is a clear line on my phone.
