Sneaking suspicion that Gregg's have done it again!

OK,first world problem,I admit. But has anyone noticed that their local Gregg's haven't had any vegetable bakes over the last week? Since the introduction of the new vegan steak bake on the 2nd of January,my local branch has not had any (vegetable bakes, that is). Whether the two are connected or it's just coincidence,I don't know. The same thing happened when they brought out their vegan sausage roll some months back. The vegetable bake disappeared for a few months, reappearing again about 4 months later. Now the same thing has happened again. I keep being told that 'they weren't sent any in the delivery' when I asked if they'd stopped doing them. But I was told the same thing regarding it's disappearance when the vegan sausage roll appeared. Has anyone else experienced this?

It annoys me too that veggie options with dairy products, are being replaced by vegan ones. I don't mind fake meat, it's nice to have that texture to chew on, which is generally missing from veggie stuff, but I don't want vegan mayo, or vegan "cheese", and I love the taste of a sponge cake where you can taste the eggs and butter.

but i don't see the point in stuff being mushed and moulded so it can pretend to be meat.

That’s exactly how cheap sausages are made Grin

scrivette I had an apple danish with cream yesterday. So still around. In South London anyway.

Excellent bookmum! I'm a South East Londoner but there's no Greggs in my nearest high street. Not to worry, I may travel next week as far as Eltham or Sidcup :-).

@FamilyOfAliens I was so disappointed years ago when Greggs replaced the 2 Baker’s Ovens in our town as the Greggs cheese and onion pastie is awful compared to the bakers oven cheese and onion slice that I have refused to go to a Greggs since!

Not to derail thread but every time I’ve been to Greggs in the past year they always say the pasty I want (cheese and onion or sausage and bean) is cold! Only the steak bakes seem to be kept warm all day. Maybe my choices aren’t very popular. I think I’ll stop going!

I don't think I've ever seen a veggie bake in the wild. Only in Iceland freezers. Its like the corned beef bakes, can't remember the last time I saw them in an actual Greggs.

Actually, I haven't seen veggie bakes in any of our local ones in a while, but corned beef ones are still common.

@singme, they don't keep any of the bakes warm, they must just have a faster turnover of steak bakes than any others so they're not in the cabinet long enough to get cold. :)

Ah I see! Maybe I just need to get in there early to get my sausage and bean fix!

enjoyingscience · 10/01/2020 15:19

I think vegan is often cheaper than veggieFor manufacturers - margerine instead of butter etc. One of the reasons I’m veggie is that I like butter, so that’s very sad for me :(

joffreyscoffees · 10/01/2020 15:27

Vegetable bake was in my Greggs yesterday - Leeds City Centre.

I had a steak bake, wasn't impressed but then I'd never have had a steak bake before going vegan. I'll stick with the sausage roll Grin

They definitely had the vegetable bakes in my local Greggs this morning, I saw them while waiting for my coffee. They had the vegan steak ones too (which I like the idea of but it’s got Quorn in it which upsets my stomach Hmm )
