WIBU to knock on for a parcel at 8.30pm?

Proudownerofplants · 07/01/2020 19:50

After reading the 'best purchases' thread and having another chilly winter in my house, I have ordered a big heated blanket.

I am so excited about this but the amazon guy dropped it with my neighbour instead of in my porch as requested. I rang the bell at 6PM and 7:30pm. Lights are on but nobody has answered. Would 8:30 be too late to try again? They are elderly but pretty sprightly. I really cant wait to wrap up in the blanket!

Too late imo

Cloudyapples · 07/01/2020 19:52

If lights still on I think it’s fine - tell me more about this heated blanket!

mathanxiety · 07/01/2020 19:52

No, not unreasonable, and hopefully they haven't opened your package and kept your blanket.

Knock nice and loud for a few minutes if they don't answer your first knock.

Monty27 · 07/01/2020 19:56

If the lights are on I would

TabbyMumz · 07/01/2020 19:58

If they have your parcel they can expect you to knock for it surely?

Bubblysqueak · 07/01/2020 19:59

Definitely not unreasonable, especially as it's for a heated blanket (currently snuggled up under mine Crown Grin )

Leeds2 · 07/01/2020 19:59

Personally, I think it is a bit late.

Could you phone them and ask, then they would know it was you when the doorbell goes?

overnightangel · 07/01/2020 20:00

It’s 830 not midnight!!

ParkheadParadise · 07/01/2020 20:00

I would knock at that time, if the lights were on.
Don't think 8.30 is late.

Chocolatemouse84 · 07/01/2020 20:00

If you've already knocked and they haven't answered, I'd leave it for tonight and try again tomorrow.

Myshitisreal · 07/01/2020 20:01

I need to see the blanket 👀

M0nstermunch · 07/01/2020 20:02

It's not too late if the lights are on. I have a heated blanket and it's heaven!

Drum2018 · 07/01/2020 20:02

It too late at all. Knock harder if they appear to be ignoring you. They're probably wrapped up in the blanket.

Drum2018 · 07/01/2020 20:03

Should say 'Not too late at all'

MuddlingMackem · 07/01/2020 20:05

If you don't want to knock pop a note through with your phone number and ask them to give you a call when it's convenient for you to pop round to collect.

Proudownerofplants · 07/01/2020 20:05

So it's the Sweet Dreams electric heatsled throw 200cmx 130cm on Amazon... cant work out to copy the link but it seems nice and big and it's got really good reviews! Haha drum2018 I can just imagine them sat with it!!

probably latish if they are elderly - maybe try once more if all the lights are on.
Maybe drop a note through with your number asking them to let you know a convenient time, or say that you'll knock/ring tomorrow at a specific time.

user32564567 · 07/01/2020 20:06

8.30 is not late.

Proseccopeach · 07/01/2020 20:06

You need to knock in-between soap times.

Proudownerofplants · 07/01/2020 20:16

proseccopeach that is a very good point.

Maybe a little late, I don't know them but I think some older people can have a different idea about acceptable times to come knocking on the door.

SunshineAngel · 07/01/2020 20:28

Do you have their phone number to give them a heads up it's you? My grandparents don't like answering the door after dark because of a bad experience of someone trying to force his way in a while back. Luckily they had the dog at the time, but not anymore. I also don't like answering after dark as we're not in the best area.

Proudownerofplants · 07/01/2020 20:34

Ah that's a shame, what happened to your grandparents, sunshine. Good job they had the dog.

I don't have their number unfortunately and wouldn't like to make them nervous. Ah well. Hot water bottle it is tonight. I will drop a note round though so they can ring me if they're up.

www.amazon.co.uk/LIVIVO-Heated-Electric-Over-Blanket/dp/B0772VMN9Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=heated+throw+blanket+for+sofa&qid=1578429365&sprefix=heated+t&sr=8-8

This is the one I have and it's amazing, so snuggly and warm and machine washable!

Crafting1Queen · 07/01/2020 20:37

Hi Op, as other posters are saying, if the lights are on I'd try one more time, but if no answer (they might be a bit reluctant due to the darkness) have a note ready to pop through the door, with your name, contact number, thanking them for taking parcel in, and to call or text when's a good time to collect. Maybe also mention you get home from work about blah time, and will try again tomorrow as soon as you get home, that way they may answer the door then. Good luck & enjoy your cosy blankie when you get it.
