PaprikaPringle · 06/01/2020 17:03

I can't be the only one on MN who

doesn't already have 100s of 1000s in a pension pot
or a defined benefit pension awaiting me
or a stonking great property portfolio

Am I .....?

And if you have any of the above this isn't the thread for you Grin

I’m 30 and have about £1000... only just started putting into one in March Blush

RhymingRabbit3 · 06/01/2020 17:06

I paid into a teachers pension for 4 years. That's all I have. I'm 29 so have time to add to it but won't be working full time for a good few years so I won't have much.

PokemonWanker · 06/01/2020 17:09

Late 30s and I have about £1500 in mine. Don’t own a property. Doubt I’ll inherit anything from parents.

Know quite a few people in a similar situation.

letmeinthroughyourwindow · 06/01/2020 17:11

I'm in a similar position but it is actually quite scary to think about managing on £150pw state pension. I try not to think about it because I don't have any spare money to magic up.

LagunaBubbles · 06/01/2020 17:11

I'm 49 and not in the NHS pension scheme because I can't afford it. Don't have a spare £30 a month, never mind £300. So zero.

SleepDeprivedElf · 06/01/2020 17:13

Mine is so teeny tiny! You are not alone!

FooFighter99 · 06/01/2020 17:13

I'm 35 and have 2 NHS pensions, a 2008 one and a 2015 one and there's £2033 in and and £1584 in the other..... no idea what they will end up with if I work till I'm 70 though??

I also have an historic council one from years and years ago thats got about £500 in it too Hmm

DragonUdders · 06/01/2020 17:14

@letmeinthroughyourwindow - the new state pension is £168 per week.

EauDeResistance · 06/01/2020 17:14

I'm 50. I've got cock all in my pension.

WanderingMilly · 06/01/2020 17:15

I have no pension pot, I could never afford to contribute to one. I'm retirement age but have little savings left, I fall into the WASPI women category so some years yet before I get a state pension. No idea what I will do when the money runs out....

Christmastreejoy · 06/01/2020 17:16

37 and just have state pension and a small contribution to a work based pension for 3 years that’s worth peanuts. I’m a full time carer for my children who have additional needs and have my own health issues so not sure I’ll ever be able to build it up tbh

chomalungma · 06/01/2020 17:17

I used to have the potential for a great pension. Final salary. Decent career prospects and all that in the public sector.

But life happened. Nothing I can do about it. I can't turn back the clock.

Ilikecurrybest · 06/01/2020 17:18

Glad it isn’t just me! Was self employed and only got a job with a pension a few years ago (am mid thirties). Currently Looking at a thrifty retirement...

Isleepinahedgefund · 06/01/2020 17:18

I think you'll find most people don't. That's one of the reasons they started pension auto enrolment a few years ago.

Frenchw1fe · 06/01/2020 17:19

I took early retirement at 59 and get £162.per month. If my husband ever leaves me I'll starve.

ElefanteIntheroom · 06/01/2020 17:21

the new state pension is £168 per week

Does that include housing benefit?

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 06/01/2020 17:22

45, no pension.

Don't imagine people my age will ever get to retire anyway.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2020 17:22

I got to 51 with next to nothing to in mine. I am now working mainly to pay into pensions for DH and I.

He is 60 in 2 years, has always worked in physical jobs, climbing and building. He can't last until 67... so we needed to do something to take the weight of his Protestant work ethic!! He won't stop working, but might feel more able to do something that doesn't wreck any more of him.

According to our financial advisor it is NEVER TOO LATE to start!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/01/2020 17:22

I'm 29 and have about £300 so far. I have a workplace pension but because I'm on such a low wage it's not a lot.

I am buying a house soon and my focus will be on getting mortgage free. Luckily I have a large deposit so I will only need a 20 year mortgage.

dottiedodah · 06/01/2020 17:22

This is the problem really isnt it? Everywhere I read of Mr and Mrs X Y or Z saying they need at least a mil to retire ,others who have a selection of homes they rent out and so on .We have a private pension but still have some way to go on our mortgage, so will have to use some of that to pay it down! The thing I feel is that it is so expensive to live who has spare money for a pension .A friend of mine is a "Waspi" woman and is working and looking after her GC simply couldnt afford the amount needed for a pension subscription while working P/T!

megletthesecond · 06/01/2020 17:23

Me.
I've got three very small pensions. Plus the one with my current employer. I think the best one has £4k in it.

VestaTilley · 06/01/2020 17:23

Me. I had a few job changes and some unemployment so haven't got £100sk! It really worries me though so I'm making it a priority for DH and I. We have a baby so it'll be hard, but it's worth it.

SinkGirl · 06/01/2020 17:24

We have none (my health is shit and our twins are disabled, not going to happen). We’ve managed to accrue a fair bit in savings over the last couple of years but will need to either convert our loft or move. It’s a big worry but nothing to be done about it.

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 06/01/2020 17:24

i havent a clue about mine,im 38 so years yet till i find out

I haven't even got a pot to put a pension (or piss) in. Hoping I pop my clogs before it becomes an issue!
