To ask you to pray for the thousands of people trapped on a beach by fires in Victoria?

There are 4000 people from the town of Mallacoota, Victoria, Australia, that is currently being destroyed by fire. They most likely won’t have homes to return to. They all have life jackets on ready to take shelter in the water as embers rain down upon them. Fire personnel have just - as I post - told them to get in the water. Can you imagine how they must feel?

Australia at the moment is burning across 4 states. Where I am it is 45c and the smell of smoke is heavy. It is a terrible summer for us.

@Moonmelodies if praying didn't work then the fires would t be needed to contained and controlled by the firefighters, it would just kill everyone and everything in its way.

Thank god that he made firefighters, the equipment, the knowledge.

LucaFritz you don’t know what you are talking about. Australia is huge, there are fires everywhere. People usually evacuate to the nearest towns but some of them have burnt too. People can’t just leave their homes for weeks, even months. Where do they go, there are fires dotted all around for hundreds even thousands of kilometres. This week a suburb 16ks from Melbourne’s cbd was on fire, people were evacuating. We have bushfires usually after January in our summer. These fires have been raging since September, early in out Spring. These bushfires are unprecedented, we are breaking record temperatures daily all over Australia.

The government is corrupt and won’t give up coal. Rupert Murdoch runs much of Australia’s media, also the UK and the US. This link shows why

The fires have been fought by unpaid firefighters, who have had no help. The Australian Defence Forces have not been allowed to help. There have been very few water bombers. The PM said the (unpaid, firefighters) want to be there. We are governed by a sociopath and he won the May 2019 election by the lies of the Murdoch media.

Australia was to be the first country to be really affected by Climate Change. We don’t have long, the planet is heating up at a rapid rate. Most fifteen year olds of today won’t survive to 60 years of age.

To ask you to pray for the thousands of people trapped on a beach by fires in Victoria?

Well fucking said @SpruceTree!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/12/2019 22:13

Some people are unbelievable Angry

managedmis · 31/12/2019 22:15

Surely we've determined that this thread is about Aus and not praying?

Confused
PhilSwagielka · 31/12/2019 22:27

I'm so sorry, OP. I've got Aussie relatives - one of my aunties married an Aussie and lived there for several years before they all moved back to the UK. They lived in Gisborne and I remember there were wildfires there a while back, though luckily they were safe. I'm so glad they're out of Oz now. It's terrifying to think that thousands of people have lost their homes, G-d knows how many people are missing or dead, and meanwhile the PM insists climate change isn't real.

franklyidontgiveadamscarlet · 31/12/2019 23:04

Climate change is not how all these fires happened.
One reason is this national disaster with its huge loss of forests ,homes ,private properties and tragically lives ,part of a wider and sinister plot by the climate change activists? Aren’t the Greenies and the activists the ones against scrub clearing in high fire risk areas?
The Climate changes every day.

SansaSnark · 31/12/2019 23:27

My understanding is that backburning couldn't take place at it's usual levels due to climate conditions in the winter. I've seen a lot of posts from Australian Firefighters saying this.

But sure, let's blame environmentalists for this...

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/12/2019 23:30

@spingly and spruce. Thanks for tarring as all with the same brush. Nice to know some Christians are bigots. Luckily some of us atheists know you all aren't.

StartupRepair · 31/12/2019 23:39

Sadly the greed are not in power and don't dictate government/climate policy.

StartupRepair · 31/12/2019 23:39

*Greens are not in power.

franklyidontgiveadamscarlet · 31/12/2019 23:57

I think Its a good thing that the left wing and green's are not in power.

StartupRepair · 01/01/2020 00:08

Because the LNP Coalition is doing such a great job?

@MrsTerryPratchett no idea wtf you are talking about... do let me know

Orchidflower1 · 01/01/2020 00:25

@TheClaws I cannot even begin to imagine the horror that you and your family, friends, neighbours and your wider community are going through.

I pray that all people will be safe and that healing will begin for bodies and minds.

As we move into the new decade I pray that for everyone.

Don't insult me.

I am not your Mate either.

LahLahsBigBand · 01/01/2020 00:42

You know exactly what I meant @franklyidontgiveadamscarlet. Mate.

feelingverylazytoday · 01/01/2020 00:46

To the people who are saying things like 'praying doesn't work' , I'm an atheist and I just say something like 'thinking of you' on this sort of ocassion. People just want to feel that other people , their fellow human beings, care about them and are rooting for them. It's the least we can do, surely.

franklyidontgiveadamscarlet · 01/01/2020 00:50

Actually I don't give a dam.

Mate

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 01/01/2020 00:55

As a lifelong atheist, I’m absolutely disgusted at the number of people on here slating those that believe in prayer. Just because we don’t believe in religion, god or whatever, it doesn’t mean we should insult other’s beliefs. As far as I’m concerned whatever gives comfort is fine by me and I’ve never been insulted when someone prays for me. I’m merely grateful than someone cares Enti take part of their time, to wish me well. Between those shouting about climate change and those shouting about prayer, do you not think youse could just shut up, get off your soap boxes and just try to give some comfort to those that have asked for it.

PostNotInHaste · 01/01/2020 00:55

I’m so sorry OP, you have all been in my thoughts - horrendous situation Flowers

This is really not the place to be arguing,

yolofish · 01/01/2020 01:02

This is really not the place to be arguing

yolofish · 01/01/2020 01:03

oops hit return too soon - totally agree. My thoughts, prayers, hippy dippy vibes, whatever you believe in go out to everyone caught up in this disaster. Apart from donating money, that's all those of us 'outside' can do at the moment.

justilou1 · 01/01/2020 01:07

@TotallyFuckedUp, Aussies are complaining about prayers because that is what our stupid government is offering while it is withholding emergency funds much required by the fire fighters for equipment and to feed their families, etc... to feed people displaced by fires and whose livelihoods have been lost. Meanwhile, our happy-clapper PM has given his church a $120,000 donation of tax payer funds, ensured that the coffee cart at Parliament House has had a $380,000 refurb - a fucking coffee cart - not a shop, the pm’s plane interior has been upgraded at a cost of $250million, and he has used it exclusively to woo mining magnates and take his family on holidays overseas - again at our expense. He is Pentecostal - and believes that he is one of the chosen ones - and the End of Times is heralded by Fires, Famine and Pestilence. The bastard’s hurrying his way into heaven.
