To report Hermes driver

HJWT · 28/12/2019 13:01

We have had a new delivery man for a few weeks he is so fast that he is walking of 2.5 seconds after knocking ! Today he knocked and I thought it was DH coming back from the noises I answered straight away he gave me the parcel & walked of!

Then DH finds another parcel behind the bin for another house ( say we are number 32 they are 72) checked the camera he clearly did not see and he has chucked the parcel behind the bin knocked on the door given me mine and then signed for mine himself!!

I understand they have LOTS of parcels to get delivered in one day but this guy is rushing so much that he is chucking other peoples parcels at the wrong house and signing for them himself!

Should I email to report him ?

Yes definitely. I find Hermes to be the absolute worst, I've often found my own parcels in my recycling bin (when I've been home all day and they haven't even knocked!). I'm an able bodied, younger person who can sprint to the door, but lots of others don't have the same privilege.

FizzyIce · 28/12/2019 13:16

You can but don’t expect them to do anything about it

HJWT · 28/12/2019 13:20

@FizzyIce your probably right! I have kept the video though from the camera, if my parcels ever don't show up but are signed for I will send them it for proof 🤷🏻‍♀️

No, but you should complain to the company you bought the goods from. They're who Hermes has the contract with, and hopefully if they have to spend too much time dealing with complaints they'll decide it's time to get a new carrier.

Hermes business model involves cutting costs, hence pressure on drivers, who are "self employed" and probably getting less than minimum wage. Working conditions for those at the bottom are becoming such rubbish that I am very hesitant about making a complaint about anyone on minimum wage.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 28/12/2019 16:10

@FizzyIce Not necessarily, I once made a complaint and we have had fantastic deliveries ever since.

Bingcankissmyass · 28/12/2019 18:24

I did, after I had an email saying Hermes had delivered my parcel (Proactiv for my teenager) There was no card left, wasnt in/behind a bin, nor was it with a neighbour. We were in the whole day and no one knocked. The bloody driver had signed for it (signature shown in email was not mine) and....who knows what they did with it Hmm driver maybe on minimum wage but it doesn't give them the right to steal/sell/shove peoples parcels up their arses for their own gratification Called the retailer and they sent out a replacement, via Hermes 🤦‍♀️ but this time we did receive it!

nowaypose · 28/12/2019 18:28

I reported a Hermes courier once because he knocked so violently on the door it literally made me jump out of my skin. He did this every time he came, it sounded like I’d imagine the police would knock during a raid. He’d only give you three seconds to answer then he’d start bashing on the window. He also launched parcels through the window when it was open during summer.

After I reported him he started tapping so lightly you could barely hear it. I doubt they told him that it was me who had complained but he just seemed to go from one extreme to another.

Lunde · 28/12/2019 18:32

DHL have hired a ghost driver for my route! He claimed to have attempted delivery but spookily there were no footprints in the snow that fell the previous evening! [santa]

hazell42 · 28/12/2019 19:04

You got your parcel.
You cant complain about your neighbours parcel. That's up to them
And really, complaining because he is a bit quick?
I've had a lot of parcels delivered over the last few weeks
One woman looked progressively more harassed every time I saw her
If you are going to be having parcels delivered regularly, trying to build a rapport with your delivery driver will probably be a better option

Lifeoverhaul · 28/12/2019 19:21

After having a conversation with a delivery driver the other day I feel sorry for them. This driver (not Hermes) said he normally had to deliver 190 parcels on an average day. Over Christmas period he had to do over 200. Imagine a 8 hour shift. That's around 25 parcels an hour, plus the driving between houses. That's about 1 every 2 minutes but that's not possible with all the driving. It's crazy. They don't do themselves any favours by chucking stuff over a wall, behind a bin etc but their targets are utterly impossible.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/12/2019 20:48

And really, complaining because he is a bit quick? Yes, because it means he is mis-delivering parcels.

Rezie · 28/12/2019 20:54

Complain to the company you purchased the items from. Hermes won't do anything but the companies that give them the money might have an effect. I try to avoid companies that use Hermes.

Dosia8 · 29/12/2019 20:07

I paid hermes to pick my parcel in November. It never happened and have been trying to get a refund ever since. Any help at all? This is a rubbish company

Petrichor11 · 29/12/2019 20:09

Yes but Hermes don’t give a shit about customer service or lying cheating drivers, so don’t expect anything to come of it

1990shopefulftm · 29/12/2019 20:10

speak to the retailer, hermes don't tend to respond to complaints directly.

Bradfordcity123 · 30/12/2019 06:37

Wow. Reporting the poor guy for knocking too loudly then moaning because hes not knocking loud enough. The guy cant win.. some people love to moan.

happycamper11 · 30/12/2019 06:55

Hermes is the absolute worst of the worst, that's impressive to be worse than Yodel. You can report but he's only doing what the company expect without actually saying out out loud so don't expect anything to happen

Roomba · 30/12/2019 06:58

Glad it's not just me who has thought they were being raided by a SWAT team when their Hermes driver arrived Grin

BillHadersNewWife · 30/12/2019 07:05

I had a delivery man knocking the door down angrily once....I was in the back garden. I answered with a Shock face because it really was like he was being murdered the desperation of the knocking...anyway he says "Why don't you answer!!??" and I say "I was in the garden!" and he says "I saw someone in that room there!"

He'd fucking peered into my daughter's bedroom (bungalow) and was outraged she hadn't got up to answer!

"I've told her not to answer the door alone and don't you ever EVER peer into my windows again!"

Wanker. He's never been back. We have a different one now.

Roselilly36 · 30/12/2019 07:14

I agree Hermes are terrible for service, but I feel quite sorry for the couriers tbh, they have a ridiculous amount of deliveries to do each day and the pay is bad. It annoys me when they ring my bell and then disappear before I have a chance to get to the door and find the parcel on the doorstep, but I wouldn’t complain. As long as I got my parcel.

MarieG10 · 30/12/2019 07:19

Similar experience here. I kept having parcels left behind (thrown) my gate. Bought a new bell with an extender into my office so I knew I would hear the bell (although heard it anyway for other visitors).

Result...nothing rang. Basically as my car wasn't on the driveway they didn't even wait and were throwing it straight over the gate.

GreenFieldsOfFrance · 30/12/2019 07:31

I am to the point with hermes that I'm going to start checking who a company uses to deliver before buying and then not buying if it's them. Our delivery person is a neighbour from about 20 doors away. If you're not in they leave a note to come and collect it from them, and then they are never in, their family members are obviously sick of people knocking for parcels and give you short shrift at the door. You go around feeling bad because you're asking the delivery person to give you your parcel.

Davincitoad · 30/12/2019 07:39

Hermes are crap. They regularly throw things over our gate and break them, and also forge my signature meaning I can’t claim as apparently I ‘signed for it’.

MuttsNutts · 30/12/2019 07:39

No, I wouldn’t complain about the poor bloke. Delivery drivers are under unbelievable pressure to achieve unrealistic targets every single day. They are on minimum wage, often zero hour contracts or forced to be self-employed so that the company doesn’t have to provide basic workers’s rights such as sick pay.

He is in an impossible situation and I hate the way some people (especially on MN) like to dehumanise workers doing crap jobs and wanting to complain about them without thinking for a moment what it would be like to work even a day in their place.

Give him a break. You can guarantee that if he is so awful there will be plenty of other people who won’t think twice about reporting him and jeopardising his job. Don’t be that person. Instead you could direct your complaint to the people that deserve it and can do something about it. Contact your MP and campaign about workers’ rights if you want to write an email.

You could also try and catch your driver next time and explain that you sometimes struggle to get to the door in time so that he is aware. He’s just a bloke trying to feed bis family after all.

Davincitoad · 30/12/2019 07:41

Although Yodel are in a league of their own as they have mostly lost everything I have ever ordered. I no longer use companies that use them. I once went to collect a parcel and the guy just looked at me and said ‘no’ and walked off.
